Destructoid - Tekken Tag Tournament 2 looks nice on the Wii U

Destructoid - I got a quick look Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on the Wii U and it looked like... Tekken Tag Tournament 2. With that established, I went hunting for news!

There was no confirmation that the game would support a dedicated "off-TV" mode to free the TV for other uses. That said, the GamePad displays the game at all times regardless, so if you want to watch something else on the TV, you'd just need to leave the Wii U running and change the input on the set. There may be a dedicated "off-TV" option by the time the game launched on Nov. 18th, so we'll see.

I as a loyal Nintendo Elite supporter am honored to have Namco bless the Nintendo fanbase with the first ever Tekken title for a Nintendo home console. No longer do Nintendo supporters have to sit on the sidelines while others enjoy this work of art, as we are now able to participate in this slice of purified greatness. Hopefully this will also open doors for many other 3rd party multiplat or future Nintendo Wii U entertainment system exclusive fighting experiences in the future.

From the looks of things in the video above. The enabled extra screen combined with Nintendo platform exclusive new features lands this version of Tekken Tag 2 as the likely possible superior version of this title. A real treat for the Nintendo Elite fighting fan.

Day one purchase when available wherever videogames are sold.

The tablet controller will help set the Wii U apart when the PS4/720 arrive. It opens up new gameplay experiences that won't be found on other consoles.

LX-General-Kaos4239d ago (Edited 4239d ago )

That is hard to say at this point. Just like how last generation competing consoles launched a form of motion controls eventually. Other next generation consoles may very well borrow Nintendos groundbreaking innovations once more, and use a touch screen controller as standard practice. I suppose we will find out if the competing corporations have anything to show us this E3 2013.

Last generation has shown that adding a once unique feature too late in the console life cycle does not promise success. The trick is to make said feature standard. That lesson was learned the hard way last generation, a mistake that wont likely happen again.

General-Kratos

Sony is already implementing "asymmetrical gameplay" with LBP by using the PS Vita as a controller with a screen, just like the Wii U. Although I think that the update for LBP is a much better way of showcasing asymmetrical gameplay than anything Nintendo has shown so far for the Wii U, it demonstrate how Nintendo is setting the example for next generation.

Microsoft also, in a different way, has done the same thing with Smart Glass. Something that without the unveiling of the Wii U last year, wouldn't have been present at this year's E3. It is used differently, but the purpose is the same.

In my opinion, what Sony showed with LBP cross-controller and what Ubisoft has done with Rayman Legends, it gets me excited to see what more can it be done with a screen on the controller. That is a big advantage for Nintendo, if they entice developers to make good use of it.

On the other side, if Nintendo fails to make developers use the Wii U Gamepad properly, it will happen just as the Wii that everybody was excited about the Wii Remote, but after a few years nobody cared to do a proper game for it except for Nintendo, and a lot of developers will prefer to us the Wii U Pro controller instead, making the Wii U meaningless.

LX-General-Kaos4238d ago (Edited 4238d ago )

Thats why I am predicting that future next generation consoles will be borrowing the idea of the standard Tablet controller present on the Nintendo Wii U entertainment system. Last generation consoles may be playing catch up in that regard, but it still sets the stage for future consoles, and is pretty much setting the standard early on.

A lot of people seem to have mixed reactions over Nintendos tablet control functions. Some go as far as to disrespect Nintendos new innovative product just as they did with the Ninteno Wii mote. Until a similar concept was present on their platform of choice. But when these said controllers are standard across all consoles next gen, I would like to see what the people have to say about it. I actually love the idea and hope that others embrace it as well.

When it comes to other developers using the tablet controller properly, I have no fear of things going south. Unlike motion controls, the tablet is more of an assist to actual gameplay with a standard game pad. Not forcing you to completely change the way that you experience your game. Just giving you more of an option if you feel like participating in something new. The tablet controller still has all of the functions of a standard controller for those of who would not like any change to their gameplay mechanics.

AKA Tekken will still play as Tekken with the use of the touch screen functions or not.

Remote play says says hi buddy. Love how remote play turned into a nintendo idea. I called this a while back when everyone kept calling it the "Nintendo experience" although Sony did remote play. Only difference is touch screen, there was a game too that if you connect the psp and used it as a controller it showed a map on the psp screen.

Also Nintendo doesn't have a big fighting game community outside of smash bros (tatsunuko vs Capcom anyone?), so once again tekken on ps3 will outsell the other platforms.

Also my brother is the biggest tekken fanboy and has all tekken games and is ranked pretty high with an excellent record and this wasn't enough to have him running to a wiiU

@vallencer
Still doesn't change the fact that Sony pushed to it first, but you guys want to omit that and call it "nintendos idea" because its slightly better than where it started at (psp)? Also failing to see that the vita can push the same or more?

vallencer4238d ago

In all fairness remote play sucked hard on the psp in fact it was pretty much non existent what so ever on the psp. The experience Nintendo is offering is also a bit different than what sony is offering. Well at least with the psp's remote play but with Vita it's definently closer now. One example of things that are different is how Black Ops 2 is using it for split screen. As far as i know Vita isn't using their remote play like that. All in all though they aren't too terribly far away from each other but i believe the Wii U still has sony's remote play beat.

vallencer4238d ago

Well if you wanna get real technical then Nintendo actually started it first with the Gameboy hook ups but hey what do i know.

killerhog4238d ago (Edited 4238d ago )

Hooks ups of electonics have been done way before nitendo. Just like handhelds existed before the game boy. But could you play non gameboy games using the gameboy? Or control the consoles via the gameboy? Did games show maps or items on the gameboy screen when you played a non gameboy game? Nitendo just did what has been done already connect an electronic to other electronics. But. Nintendo does it all right?

Technically all Nintendo did was allow you to connect handhelds to trade pokemons or see the game you're playing on your handheld on tv not *remoteplay*. And Nintendo was not the creator of either.

vallencer4238d ago (Edited 4238d ago )

First killerhog you should relax lol. Secondly i never said nintendo does it all but now that you bring it up they pretty much do. Theres a reason no one remembers the handhelds before Nintendo it's because they weren't done well. And yeah of course you could hook things up to electronics before Nintendo but as for gaming goes you could not because sony never made a handheld until the PSP so where do you think remote play came from hmm?? Also as to your third question yes they did but it was only one and it was the Legend of Zelda four swords adventure. All im saying is that without the gameboy hook ups Sony might not have ever done remote play because it wasn't done before that. Nintendo is a trend setter weather you want to admit it or not. Just look at the Wii for the perfect example.

Also never said they were the creator but as i did say where do you think remote play came from?? competition breeds creativity and without the gameboy hook ups Sony might never have thought to go "hey lets take it one step further and make it to where you can control your ps3 with your psp."

ninjabake4238d ago

Remote play IS a Nintendo thing man LOL I know its easy to forget the gamecube days, but the cube wouldn't have sold the little it did had it not had the GBA player. You could also use your gameboy as a controller. That feature alone had me interested in the gamecube and I was a PS2 fanboy and also owned an Xbox but didn't look twice at GC.

When it comes to Tekken selling better on PS3, I would have to agree with you. Tekken is still a PlayStation game to me. Its still weird seeing it on other systems.

NBT914238d ago

It will not be the superior version; unless it has all the DLC, and it will have to play very well on that huge controller which is unlikely to be honest, and yeah you could use the pro controller but it kind of defeats the point of the wii u... And even then it's not going to feel nice.

Even so; this game is fantastic and Nintendo gamers are in for a real treat considering it launches on the release date. It's probably the best wii u launch game, I'm only just starting to really get into it after two days, it really is packed with stuff to do for a fighter game.

But let’s not get hasty as first of all we still have all those free games to look through courtesy of the Xbox Games With Gold program for September 2019. Most of the "staff" of these websites are freelance writers or college kids. None of them are paid to write, only promised exposure or some money revenue if advertisement deals are made. College graduates or those with masters are only paid "well" in major publications like IGN or even Kotaku. Though it's never the main gig. So you'll never see top quality writing in 80 percent of these news submissions. Sorry for the random detail, I just used to be like you lol.

TGGJustin1700d ago

That is a horrible month. Hitman is the only good thing there and it just left Game Pass. They are giving you a cheap $5 game which I think is a new low for them. Then you have the third EDF game on GWG this year and it isn't even good. Tekken Tag 2 was given to all Xbox players during E3 a couple years ago. Microsoft continues to show that they are just trying to push people to Game Pass and have given up on this service.

yomfweeee1700d ago

Ya putting the same games from Gold and GP is kind of messed up. Especially since they are selling those as a package with Ultimate GP.

CuVe1700d ago

It is a really good game, its just that it was free on ps plus long ago... The second Hitman is 20Euro(~22USD) now, so even that is very cheap. This is a very bad month. And if you compare it with PS Plus its even worse...

Blaze9291699d ago

@CuVe - what does any of that have to do with Xbox and it's users?

IamTylerDurden11700d ago (Edited 1700d ago )

Hitman is good, but it was just on Game Pass and PS+ gave it like 7 months ago. It's weak of them to offer gwg titles that are or were just on Game Pass. Also, PS+ giving it away isn't a big deal, but some people do have both PS+ and gwg, plus it just takes a little steam out.

If Hitman wasn't on Game Pass it still wouldn't be a great month, especially considering the competition received Darksiders 3 and Batman.

I never understand why people think the future of games are services since the content won’t indefinitely be available

SegaGamer2076d ago

It's the media and game publishers that are pushing this. I don't think that they care about our concerns.

Profchaos2076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

No I think most logical gamers understand the premise you play a monthly fee and Microsoft pays publishers for the ability to use games on the service having games never leave would mean no money for new games which would cause the service to go stale

If you want to own the game then buy it instead

Godmars2902076d ago

@Profchaos:
Most logical gamers understand that services such as these remove the concept of consumer ownership and poses a threat to game quality. Something like Uncharted or Red Dead would have less emphasis to be made and likely every major publisher would follow EA's example with titles like the canceled SW title 1313.

fathertime44642076d ago

No one is pushing this. It's just another method of getting games to the players. It's a service that gets games into the hands of players. By your logic Sega channel, game fly, netfix, Hulu, steam, Vudu, Amazon prime, and the countless of other services past and present that are similar to this are a waste. You may not get it, and it's probably because of your age and preferred console of choice, but that doesn't mean it's evil. Do some research and educate yourself

Godmars2902076d ago

@fathertime4464:
No one is pushing it yet MS is putting big name AAA releases on it day one? EA has used exclusive early access to betas for their.

psuedo2075d ago

They dont. If you buy a game and you play it for a minute, or a year. Why should they care unless they got DLC to sell in the future, or you sell your used copy and they dont get the money from someone buying it new.

Tedakin2076d ago

It's like Netflix. Every month movies leave, and new movies come. Netflix is the biggest movie service on the planet.

Chevalier2076d ago

Except Netflix spends billions on making their own exclusive content. They have far more reason to subscribe. MS doesn't spend nearly enough on content.

https://www.google.ca/amp/s...

Godmars2902076d ago

And everyone's making their own version of Netflix, removing content from it as result.

Cobra9512076d ago

Add playing your games through streaming instead of running them on your system, and your analogy becomes perfect. You pay a periodic fee, and as long as you continue to pay, you get to choose from whatever selection the service decides to make available at any given time.

agnosticgamer2075d ago

@Chevalier MS just bought 4 studios built another AAA studio from the ground up and hinted more studio purchases are to come. Of course it will take time after they closed multiple studios at the end of their 360 era, but the games and content are coming. All future 1p games are day one game pass and with 1p studio #'s getting up there lots of great content will be incoming... Netflix wasn't built in a day... and neither will Game Pass, but it's getting there.

rainslacker2075d ago

True. But at the same time, you don't tend to just play a game for an hour or two, then not care anymore. With TV, there is usually plenty to choose from. More than 100 games. Personally, I don't like to feel pressured to make sure I get a game done before it leaves the service, and I would probably be disappointed if a game left the service that I didn't get to in time.

Its not a knock on the service itself, because I find it fine and a good value as it is now. I just think that the comparisons to Netflix or Amazon Prime stop at the nature of how the content is distributed and rotated. But I find the fundamental nature of how TV and games are consumed by the user to be very different.

Until they're no longer offered a product, only services.

Though its doubtful that the indie scene will ever go away. At the same time it also will never have the access to AAA resources.

maybelovehate2076d ago

Cobra9512076d ago

doggo842076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

kevnb2076d ago

Hold on, they will be sending astroturfers any second now.

fathertime44642076d ago

@fallenangel
It's a service that for a small fee gives you access to a rotating game catalog. I don't know what is so hard to understand and why you would dislike such a thing. It's extremely consumer friendly. There's a hug variety of games and you have the chance to check out games you probably wouldn't have bought or at least wasn't factored into your gaming budget. I like. It to the Sega channel of my childhood.
It's not the future of gaming, but it is the future of budget gaming and an asset for people like me who have limited funds and can not buy every interesting game under the sun

Mystogan2076d ago

It will never be the only way to play video games but in the future it will be the main way of playing it.

Just like Netflix right now. You can either watch movies on Netflix or just buy them. There will never be a time where you won't be able to buy them. Because it's just not a smart business decision. People who buy movies don't unsubscribe from Netflix. Just because they buy movies.

In Xbox case. You can have game pass and just buy your favorite games that might leave, at a 10% discount. Why would Microsoft remove that option when it's extra revenue for them? You didn't unsubscribe from Game pass because of that one game AND they get some money from the game you bought.

Do you see why It would be an incredibly stupid business decision to remove the option to buy games now?

It's all about having options. Having these options makes the consumer happy and devs get more money. It's a win win for everyone.

rainslacker2075d ago

I think your right. But at the same time, I can see a fundamental change to how games are made to accommodate services like this. Since it was first announced with day one software, it just seemed more like a paywall for F2P games. To date, MS hasn't gone full on with that route, but I think if more publishers are hoping to capitalize on a service like this, I can see it moving more towards the mobile market, while relying on back catalog to increase the appeal of such services.

The service itself with this kind of paradigm is still pretty new, so its hard to say how it'll work for the long term. But in no way can I see big scope AAA games being made for it with high frequency. The only way that could happen is if there was a rather sizable subscriber base....which could of course happen if the provider wants to weather the storm and lose money while building that subscriber base. MS is certainly a company that could weather that storm.

Goldenarmz2075d ago

Because if you actually want to keep it, you can buy the game. Most games dont have a big shelf life as many make it seem. People just like to complain really. Unless you are a Game Collector, this is a non issue. If people wanted to hold on to their games there wouldnt be a HUGE USED GAME MARKET.

rainslacker2075d ago (Edited 2075d ago )

It wouldn't be bad if what's available isn't determined by a rotating library. It works for things like TV where there is a lot more content. But games typically aren't watch for an hour or two, then don't care again for a few years. It tends to be many hours spent.

I don't know any way around this for gaming though, since it would be impractical to license all those games for the service for a long period of time just to make sure people can play them at their leisure. Maybe not impractical, but the cost of the service would have to increase dramatically to compensate....which kind of defeats the purpose and value of the service.

Meh pretty weak selection of leaving titles should hopefully make room for a more exciting selection

Knightofelemia2076d ago

I'd rather go out and buy the discs for these games pretty sure they are dirt cheap to buy

King_Noctis2076d ago

Having choices is great isn’t it? You can either buy the game outright or just pay $10 a month to play those games plus a hundred more.

Knightofelemia2076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

I'd rather spend the $10 on buying the game streaming services are ok if the game is super rare and expensive. But like all other services they have their draw back like people needing really good internet and that can get expensive itself and fact that contracts between publishers and companies like Sony or Microsoft tend to expire. So by the time I get around checking out the streaming service and that game is gone it to me is a waste of cash. I'll stick with physical knowing I own the game and I can play it anytime I want. And like I said earlier I am sure you can probably pick up a used game at half the price of the monthly fee or the yearly fee the streaming service is asking for.

fathertime44642076d ago

@magnus
You don't need really good internet. It's not a streaming service like psnkw. You download, play, delete, and repeat

optimus2076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

@ magnus... what are you talking about? you don't need "really good internet" for gamepass because you have to download the game in order to play it...it doesn't sound like you know the concept of gamepass. they are not expecting you to play every single game on the service in under a month...you find the game you like and play it....

when you finish it, you play another. can you find the game used somewhere? sure. on average about $10-15 bucks but let's say you did and you finish that game that you now own in under a month and you end up not playing it again for years then who waisted their money?...with gamespass you could probably finish 3-4 games in under a month saving you roughly $40-50 buying those same games used.

Profchaos2075d ago

That's good if you want to do that you can myself I hate clutter and buying 100 games means I have to store 100 boxes so I prefer digital unless I really love a title

sprinterboy2076d ago

Can these articles stop please, same as "Seven games are leaving Xbox Game Pass at the end of July 2018" the the same stupid comments as July.
What's nxt month "Seven games are leaving Xbox Game Pass at the end of September 2018"
Seriously have gamers become stupid, brainless zombies or something? It's not hard to fathom games pass is like "Netflix" we get it games come and go each month its like £7.99 a Month.
I like Netflix for the occasional hangover
Sunday film and Netflix originals plus documentarys but hey guess what? That doesn't stop me from buying "stranger things" or "daddy's home 2" on Blu Ray.
If you don't like it, then don't have games pass if you do then get it. Is it that hard too understand.
BTW I'm not a xbox owner so the same goes for Ps Now, if you like it get it, if you don't then don't but please can we stop with the same stupid comments every time like these on gaas articles.

oKidUKo2076d ago

So you don't think people would like to know exactly what's leaving the service?

sprinterboy2076d ago

You'd get that via a email from xbox division or the official site

Stanjara2076d ago

Articles are there because people really don't understand terms of use, and Microsoft isn't frankly clear about negative side of it. You can have one month access to one content and the next month your buddy can't. It's good to know which game access are you paying for.

Mystogan2076d ago

They have been very clear about the fact that some games will leave from the very start.

ILostMyMind2076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

Why are you so upset? Has the collaborator hurt your feelings? The Article is just listing which games will leave the service, as well as some other article will list which games will enter. Certainly gamers become stupid, brainless zombies or something.

Follow your own advice, if you do not like reading the comments on people's opinions about GaaS, do not read the comment session and do not comment on it.

Is it that hard to understand?

Razzer2076d ago

Then don't read the article. If you don't have access to Game Pass why did you bother? People who do are going to want to know what is coming and going. No idea why you have a problem with that, but you really don't need to be preaching to others about "stupid comments".

Mystogan2076d ago

I mean I want to know which games are leaving. But the other side is using this as fuel against it. Even though it has nothing to do with them.

Smells of jealousy to me.

rainslacker2075d ago

There's nothing wrong with the articles to inform people who use the service, or may be inclined to subscribe to play before the games leave.

Since the service is pretty new, it does tend to bring out a lot of commenting about the digital future, or people who just want to take shots at the service itself. But that has nothing to do with the article itself.
