remanutd554233d ago

well hopefully that doesnt mean ps4 games will cost $69.99 or $79.99, thats gonna be too much.

XB1_PS44233d ago

I can't see the games going up to $79.99. That's way too much. Just think of that price mark as a coffin for consoles. I don't think half as many people would pay $80, as they would $60. I mean, I would only be able to buy like one damn game every month. That sucks.

LOGICWINS4233d ago

ONLY one game a month? You say that like it's a bad thing. Stats show that most console gamers only buy three games at launch per year.

COD, Madden, and some other shooter.

XB1_PS44233d ago (Edited 4233d ago )

@LOGICWINS I'm used to buying a couple games a month sometimes, and I may be in the upper end of the purchase amounts. Lol, but I wouldn't spend $160 - $240 a month on games.

LOGICWINS4233d ago

Yeah, I don't see how the industry would justify a $70-$80 standard for PS4/720 games (Sony especially, considering how value conscious they are), unless gamers were guaranteed every future piece of DLC that would be released for the game.

Reverent4233d ago

sofresh, I'm disagreeing with you because you're richer than me, and I only get like 2-3 new games a year. So go away mean rich man.

Kidding (didn't really give you a disagree lol) but still... Crazy rich people with their crazy cars and their crazy giant house cats and what not...

Gaming1014233d ago

He's not rich, he just has different priorities than you ^^^

That being, play videogames day in and day out, and spend all your money on them.

neogeo4233d ago (Edited 4233d ago )

I agree with one him a little bit. I hate paying $60 for games. I never got used to it not ever!

If you remember the only reason why games where $50 back in the 80"s and 90"s was because you got to play "arcade" games at home and did not need to use quarters. The price made sense because people like me dropped over $200 on arcades like street fighter.

Today the reason for the high price is TEH games cost billions to make!!, but some big budget games suck are end nearly as fast as a movie. Would you pay $60 to watch a movie? Now games like Fallout and zelda are well worth the money because the massive amount of greatness is worth it. I'm talking about junk like Spider man. GTFO or charge $15

XB1_PS44233d ago

@Gaming101 Haha you're right. All I do is make music for rappers.. Lol, and then with the royalty checks I spend it on games. I'm not RICH, but I get by. :)

specialguest4233d ago

If you remember gaming during the 90s, there were games that cost up to $80, and people bought them anyway. Here are a few expensive games from the 90s: http://www.1up.com/news/90s...

Look at SF2's price. With today's inflation added, paying $74.99 back in the 90s was like paying $121 today. The cost of developing a game in the 90s are no where near today's cost, yet these developers/publishers got away with it anyway.

ZeekQuattro4232d ago (Edited 4232d ago )

There was a time I couldn't see a home console being over $400. Sony said otherwise. Games are no different. Heck if you buy DLC for certain games and add up the cost you are already paying over $79.99

zeeshan4232d ago

I agree with NeoGeo 100%! Well said!

Knushwood Butt4232d ago

I think the Vita has more than one game released per month, but it has no games...

Double_O_Revan4232d ago

I know I would be waiting till prices dropped to buy a game as oppose to right away.

sourav934232d ago

I buy 1 game a month...sometimes even once every 2 months...

solidt124232d ago

At that price I would only buy 4 full price games a year and wait for deals on all the others.

gaffyh4232d ago

@WiiUDaily - It's not cool calling out a rival games journalist, makes you look unprofessional. He's entitled to his opinion, so it's not good to defame him, just because you don't agree. You could have gone about this is a better way, rather than calling him out directly and calling him an idiot.

extermin8or4232d ago

you say that by the iphone 5 32gb and 64gb have a starting price of £66 a month here in the uk so I've no idea what they have in the usa but it must be similar- and £46 for the 16gb which I reckon would easilly be filled up so a video game for 80 quid suddenly doesn't sound so unreasonable; as long as the increase in quality/content is worth the extra money...

Knight_Crawler4232d ago (Edited 4232d ago )

Yeah but what if developers took the time to pack each game with insane amonut of content for free.

Something like Halo but with triple the content.

That would justify the $79.99.

Bobertt4232d ago

Nes games cost $45-$70 depending on the title and people bought it back then. The games now are way better so im sure people will buy it. They will just be pickier on which games they buy or buy used games more.

Dac2u4232d ago

I remember buying Double Dragon 2 with my birthday money and it ended up costing me $74 after tax. Not that I want to spend that type of money again, but that's what some games cost back then and people paid it.

steve30x4232d ago

People couldnt believe it when the price of PS3 and Xbox 360 games were €60+ when the concoles came came out first after the PS2 and Xbox games were around €40 each. I know I will get disagrees but I can see the next Xbox and PS4 games being more expensive because they will be more expensive to develop.

MmaFan-Qc4232d ago

i already pay my 360/ps3/pc games 70$(well, its 59$ but with the taxes it end up being 69$)

anyway i wont get the wiiu until 6-7months after the release, the wii had barely a couples games even after 6 years. ....so i will let nintendo pull their head out of their own ass for a while and see if it worth it after a couples months.

darthv724232d ago

nobody ever said this was a cheap hobby.

omi25p4232d ago (Edited 4232d ago )

Well last year i bought

Saints Row the Third: £40 (XBOX 360)
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: £40 (XBOX 360)
Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception: £40 (PS3)
Battlefield 3: £40 (XBOX 360)
Batman: Arkham City Collectors: £65(XBOX 360)
Rage: £40 (XBOX 360)
Gears of War 3 Epic Edition: £100 (XBOX 360)
L.A Noire: £40 (XBOX 360)
Portal 2: £40 (XBOX 360)
Mortal Kombat: £40 (XBOX 360)
Dead Space 2: £40 (XBOX 360)
Assassins Creed: Revelations: £40 (XBOX 360)
BulletStorm : £50 (XBOX 360)
Dragon Age 2: £40 (XBOX 360)
F3AR: £40 (XBOX 360)
Crysis 2: £40 (XBOX 360)
Killzone 3: £40 (PS3)
Infamous 2 : £40 (PS3)
Dues Ex: Human Revolution: £40 (XBOX 360)
Dead Island: £40 (XBOX 360)
Fifa 12: £40 (XBOX 360)
Forza 4: £40 (XBOX 360)
Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary: £35 (XBOX 360)

So i spent £1010 On Retail releases ALONE + Around £200 worth of downloadable Content AND a 250gb Xbox 360s which i think was £245

So overall i spent £1455 just on entertainment.

Games in Australia range from $69-$110. Meaning some months you spend hundreds of dollars worth. Some people love to use the OzGameShop though as it is cheaper.

steve30x4232d ago

Not just nintendo fans. N4G is full of oversensitive fans. To prove my point watch how many disagrees I will get for this comment

steve30x4231d ago

LMAO That backfired on me

doogiebear4232d ago

Why is this worthy news. Doesn't the "N" in N4G mean news? Millions of idiots give stupid comments. Why is this one so special?

geddesmond4232d ago

Lol I just read his article and I agree with him on a lot of things. 95% of the hardcore titles for Wii U are ported versions of games already on PS360 or coming before Wii U launches. Yeah they'll run a bit better and have most of the DLC on disk but we've all seen screens of the Wii U versions and they DON'T look much better.

Then his price point is bang on. Why should these ported games cost the same on Wii U as they did when they launched on PS360. Star Ocean 4 and Bioshock both cost 10 euros cheaper when they launched on PS3 and they looked a bit better than the 360 version too. So why should ported Wii U games be any different?

StraightPath4232d ago

I get all games rented from lovefilm for all my platforms. Dnt need to worry bout cost since only £10 per month I save alot and play all games all year.

ALLWRONG4232d ago

Why would 720/PS4 games cost more than Wii U games?

Pachter actually makes money for what he spews. All this kid gained was humiliation.

HammadTheBeast4232d ago

He supposedly works for CNET and the LA Times, and is hired specifically for making sensationalist Nintendo headlines.

majiebeast4233d ago (Edited 4233d ago )

I think prices of games should be determined by the length, budget and quality of the game. Games like vanquish with 4 hours campaigns should never cost more then 40$ while games like uncharted 2 and Gears 2 deserve to have that 60$ price tag.

dark-hollow4233d ago

That's how it should be but the problem is who determine the value of the game?

some developers put a lot of hardwork on some short titles and others simply are full of themselves and way overvalue their game.

turgore4233d ago

but if gears 2 would be 60 bucks then what would skyrim cost ? 200?

TekoIie4233d ago (Edited 4233d ago )

Gears has MP. It could rival an RPG on time value as can many games with MP could.

Also let's not forget the issues skyrims having : /

360ICE4233d ago

Wouldn't that make good games expensive and bad games cheap? That sucks.
And who would judge quality?
And should really budget be a factor? Doesn't that reward or mitigate wasting money?
And what about online play? What does that count for in terms of length?

These are but a few of the many brain twisters you have to solve, before we scrap supply and demand.

icewater854232d ago

Vanquish is not a 4 hour game and it is worth $60.

Kaneda4232d ago

media storage too.. Uncharted is using blu-ray and Gears 2 on DVD. DVD is dirt cheap...

I can see AC3 & all the other newer games but what i dont see is how nintendo land or mario bros u justifies a $60 price tag.. LBP on vita has deeper mechanics & btr graphics for $40..

AO1JMM4233d ago

Vita is a handheld and handheld games are on average less than console games.

DivineAssault 4233d ago

maybe but vita games can be up to $50 & handheld games are becoming just as expensive to develop for as consoles.. My point is the effort & creativity is what u pay for.. They couldve charged $40 for mario bros & nintendo land shouldve been free.. I bet it took no longer than a yr n some change to make both

ronin4life4233d ago

Several NL games have full "lengthy" campaigns in single and multiplayer. It is a full featured game, though wether it is "$60" worth will have to wait for reviews with deeper detail.

And nsmbU wouldn't be considered unworthy of full price by anyone... if nsmb2 and sm3dl hadn't just come out. That's just a matter if perception and situation...

YoungPlex4233d ago

LMAO! "handheld games are becoming just as expensive to develop for as consoles"

1.8 million to make RE Revelations, approximately $60 million for RE:6. If you think that this is anywhere near console prices then go back to school, and stop trying to justify why Sony charges you so much for a handheld title!

extermin8or4232d ago

um developing for the ancient 3ds woul be cheaper as its parts arent all that new and all in all just like the original ds plus the 3d aspect..,.

SandWitch4232d ago

I have no idea why Nintendo charges 60 bucks for Mario Bros Wii U... It costs 10 million at most. While PS3/X360 games on average costs 20-30 millions to make.

stragomccloud4232d ago

One of the 3D Marios, I think $60 is justified. One of the 2D Marios... maybe. Nintendo land? No. Just no. I know it'll provide a lot of gameplay hours, but a $60 game it is not.

YoungPlex4232d ago

Seeing as Uncharted: Golden Abyss uses Havok Physics and Havok Animation, helping Sony's Bend Studio reach higher levels of fidelity and interactivity for the PS Vita system and RE:Revelations uses an advanced version of the MT Framework, an exclusive seventh generation game engine built to be used with "all of the Capcom next-generation games" on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (and later on the Wii and the Nintendo 3DS); it's easy to think that both of these titles would cost an arm and a leg to develop.

Sadly this isn't the case, as both of these engines were already made and easily optimized to take advantage of both pieces of hardware. Thus making it possible for both titles to be developed in little than under a year, delivering both console level experiences. Development cost for both are a mere fraction of what it would cost in making a console title.

Both titles could've cost $20 at most, but opted to use 4gig cards, which bumped up cost and the msrp. That is why they're expensive, not really due to development cost alone!

"um developing for the ancient 3ds woul be cheaper as its parts arent all that new and all in all just like the original ds plus the 3d aspect..,."

Keep dreaming! Revelations was a magnificent game and did a great job showcasing what is possible on the 3DS! But if you feel that Uncharted cost anymore to develop for, and that it was worth the $49.99 price tag anymore than Revelations $39.99, simply due to development cost, then your highly misinformed...

I love how Sony fans bash Nintendo, knowing damn well that more than half of them own some piece of current Nintendo hardware.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Xbox's Preservation Step Sets A Much-Needed Example, Especially For Nintendo

Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"

purple1016d ago

Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”

Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever

Nice one ☝️

Zeref5d ago

It's better than what Nintendo and Playstation is doing. It might not be perfect but at least they are TRYING. Unlike the others.

DarXyde5d ago

Trying? Take off the blinders for a moment, mate.

1. A failure to preserve games is just that: a failure to preserve games. Don't try to sugarcoat it: NO ONE is doing it properly. Better than awful is nothing to write home about.

2. At the time of this comment, isn't it the case that you need an internet connection to play Xbox games even if you buy physical discs that are hardly in circulation anymore? I don't have a Series X and I can't verify, but I think that is correct. I'm fairly certain you can at least play PS5 games at version 1.0 (not much of a win really when many games require day one patches). I think Microsoft's all digital, licensing approach is by far more aggressive than anyone else's. They really try to push you to game pass where you lose your entire library by umm.... Skipping a month of payments.

I don't think anyone is doing it right whatsoever. Don't get me started on Nintendo, who goes after anyone looking to preserve their games better than they ever would with extreme litigation.

Don't be a simp for any of these companies. Get it together.

PhillyDonJawn5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

@DarX never speak on Xbox again. You lost all credibility with your internet connection comment. Smh you have 0 clue and misinformed yet speaking on something you don't no squat about.

Einhander19725d ago

What has Sony done exactly? You guys keep deflecting to Sony but I am not actually seeing any results, and ai am certain nothing that you can come up with even comes close to what Microsoft has done and what they have tried and failed to do, like tie all your disks to your account on xbone.

Microsoft removed their whole indie section when they moved to the xbone because they were going to only allow games on the service that came from a publisher, id@xbox started after xbone launched and it only exists because Sony embraced indie and Microsoft was forced to cancel their plans and reverse course.

And every single game that was part of games for windows live including disk games (I have gta 4 on disk that won't work) so hundreds of games that use that DRM no longer work unless the company themselves patched it out which of course very few did.

MrBaskerville5d ago

Not trying. Tried. they killed of the backcomp program years ago. They set something up again, but sounds like it's more of an attempt to save the current library on whatever they are planning next. With luck they save everything and more, but let's see. I could see them killing off parts of the OG xbox and 360 libraries. Can't imagine that they would allow us to play Forza 5-7 in the future.

With that said, I do like what they've done and really wish they could have done more.

shinoff21835d ago

So killing off physical media is trying what exactly. Ms don't really give a fk if you think they do your kidding yourself.

Is that why Hellblade 2 is digital only?

Zeref5d ago

Just because it's digital only doesn't mean you can't preserve it. Just put it on an external and you have the exact same functionality of what a disc does.

MrNinosan5d ago

Guess you're trolling, but if you actually think that's how it works, I'd recommend buying some braincells.

mkis0074d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Volitile vs nonvolitile data. A disc will not corrupt either. A drive can be corrupted.

Einhander19726d ago

This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.

No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.

Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.

Zeref5d ago

Do you know you can put your games on an external and preserve them that way? There are no benefits to discs. ZERO. Idk why some of you are still obsessed with them.

DarXyde5d ago

Because games like Persona 5 exist. It's STILL V1.00. On Playstation, that's a win because 1.00 is installed on the disc—no need to download anything.

If a game does not require any updates, it's all on the disc.

Extremely low bar in the modern era, of course. It's not much of a win by any stretch.

But for now, physical media does have a purpose, at least on Playstation.

Einhander19725d ago

That is factually not how game licensing works, try plugging your hard drive into someone else xbox, It's not going to work, and it won't work if the licensing servers ever go down.

Einhander19725d ago

Anyone remember games for windows live.

I have around a dozen games, some on Steam itself that will not work because Microsoft shut off the licensing servers.

BehindTheRows5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I do. I STILL have games (Gears of War being the big one) I cannot access because Games for Windows LIVE is total garbage and no one has held Microsoft accountable.

Zeref5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership.

Chevalier5d ago

"You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership."

Damn how many times do people got to explain your idiocy to you? You can take a copy of Persona 5 like someone used as an example and play that game on ANY console WITHOUT logging in which means I can lend the game to a friend without internet and they can play my game. Can you lend your hard drive to anyone without logging in for them to play? NOPE. That is a huge difference and if you think otherwise then sorry you're an idiot.

Tacoboto5d ago

"No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft."

Ubisoft is literally erasing games people bought from their libraries... My PS1-3 discs are useless on modern hardware. Nintendo's re-published and resold almost their entire Wii U library, and the eShop is completely dead with no BC mechanism in the Switch software. Microsoft publishes everything they make today day one on Steam and Xbox/Windows. Sony only brings to PC the titles they think you might want some years later and Nintendo won't even design a functional long-lasting joystick.

You're absolutely trolling and not serious if you think Microsoft today is the worst offender.

shinoff21835d ago

Yay steam

Not everyone fks with computers though. The disc is still the best way as a console player. Period.

Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?

crazyCoconuts5d ago

Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.

Xeofate5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

That is not their plan, their plan is to transfer users accounts to the cloud.

Phil Spencer himself said as much a few months back, plans could have changed but I think people are reading way too much into one statement where Phil said he would allow Epic on xbox because he wants to be able to sell xbox games directly on other platforms. Aka, instead of selling Sea of Thives through PSN he wants to have an xbox store to sell his games on PlayStation without giving PlayStation any money.

Again, it's extremely unlikely that Phil plans to put PC on xbox and licensing would prevent them from just giving out other publishers games purchased on xbox copies of thier games on PC, Microsoft does not own their games.

crazyCoconuts4d ago

The thing that doesn't align with the cloud strategy is the giving up on exclusives. You'd still need strong exclusives for cloud streaming - it's still a "platform" , just with a lower upfront hardware investment. I feel like they've learned what PS learned with PSNow long ago. We're not ready to stream games and it's only gonna lose them money to try at this point

FinalFantasyFanatic4d ago

I would love that, I'd buy up some of the Xbox games if they could run on PC, like the Rare Replay, Lost Odyssey and Dead or Alive Ultimate, probably a pipe dream though.

Nintendo's War Against Player-Made Content Will Hurt The Company In The End
