Headphones – The Best Gaming Accessory Ever?

Liam Pritchard of Brash Games writes "And for the umpteenth time, Bethan, my long suffering girlfriend, once again vetoed my request for a surround sound system. Please understand, Bethan has nothing in particular against superior sound quality, but she did stress, and I believe this is verbatim, “I won’t have that racket booming through the flat while I’m trying to sleep” – Fair play I suppose, her reasoning was both sound and logical……that’s exactly what would happen".

I agree with this, my turtle beach px5 headset has paid for itself through sound whoring, now i feel like im completely disconnected from my environment without them. I can still play, just not nearly as well.

Plus my wife also no longer bit*hes and moans about hearing bullets all around her.

beerkeg4238d ago

Yeah, headphones are a must if you value a sex life.

topekomsi4238d ago

LMAO no kidding. She hates the sounds of war.

beerkeg4238d ago

All joking aside (Well not joking really as it's the truth lol), headphones add so much to gaming. You hear all those little details that you may miss through listening to the speakers.

It does add a huge layer to everything, you really can get immersed. A good set of headphones is, as far as I'm concerned, not just an option but a necessity.

Neckbear4238d ago

You can't really say you're "sound whoring" when you're using a headset. A Turtle Beach headset, no less. A wireless Turtle Beach headset. A wireless surround Turtle Beach headset...oh god, what the hell is wrong with you?

topekomsi4237d ago (Edited 4237d ago )

Don't Care what you think, i have owned all the major headsets (tritton, astro, tb, sieria v2) IMO turtle beach sounds the best to my ears. You may be different and i respect that troll.

When all i play is shooters mainly, and i am a defensive player, i mainly play search and destroy. All i do is sound whore. Im not sure you know what you are talking about.

VanguardOfCalamity4238d ago

The top must haves for console/pc gaming are:

1. HDTV
2. Headphones
3. something to sit on (doesn't matter if its a bucket)

- you gotta HDTV and Headphones you're ready to roll son!

chasegarcia4238d ago

agree, a headset cost less & sounds better than most sound systems.

Perjoss4238d ago

Is it because they are much cheaper than a good amp with home cinema speaker setup?

I don't get it.

chasegarcia4238d ago (Edited 4238d ago )

When it comes to home cinemas, the best setup for quality sound is a 2.1 setup properly positioned. Usually with a cost of $300-$500 new.

A headset is usually 2.0. It is also right next to your ear which usually means you do not need good speakers to make it sound good, or bass speaker. They also do not get affected by walls or other objects.A good one is around $40-$100.

basically
many people = 2.1
1 person = headset

I bought the x41 a couple of years ago for just these reasons. My wife would constantly complain about the gun noises in games. I have a decent surround system too but when I moved to a new game room there was just no good place to put the speakers. I am now looking into getting the new turtle beach ones with blue tooth once my home renovation are done. I just wish someone would come up with a way to play split screen MP with two headsets and separate audio because with the x41 you can plug in a wired headset to go with the wireless ones but you get both audios from both players so you always hear footsteps and such from the other playing with you.

tokugawa4238d ago (Edited 4238d ago )

I have these http://www.amazon.com/Sennh... which I use with one of these http://www.astrogaming.com/...
Great set-up... beats pretty much every other headset on consoles.. obviously the beyerdynamic mmx300s are better though

if you are looking for a new gaming headset, then i highly recommend paying the extra for that combo

BaconBits4236d ago

Those do look good and I have looked at that mixamp and might pick it up for my second setup. I almost need the wireless for my game room though since I have kids that run around and I like to get up and get a beer while still chatting between games.

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel8d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel7d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia8d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda8d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long8d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto8d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long7d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls728d ago
