Normally i'd agree but this is Naughty Dog. Their quality of games have been proven to be a cut above the rest on numerous occassions.

No reason to doubt them this gen, this game will be amazing.

im saying it right now, just by what ive seen so far, the game looks amazing. but i understand where your coming from, you cannot judge a game based on 20 minutes or so, but those 20 minutes were jaw dropping.

As much as I liked Naughty Dog's games above a lot of other games in it's genre, even Naughty Dog has to jump that hoop for me. You just can't give that game a pass because of who made it. Haze was made by a company with a very good reputation, but in the end the game wasn't too hot, for example. Duke Nukem didn't shine like it did in the older days, Id didn't succeed with Rage like I thought they would.

The list goes on, so what I'm saying is that I'm not sitting at the table and wiping my mouth before I take a bite, especially just after leaving the men's room; that just looks... weird.

Naughty Dog is a top developer, end of story. Just take a look at their history, each gen they make top quality games, and at top of the pinnacle is Uncharted 2, regarded as one of the best games ever made and industry standard as of it's release...LAst of Us won't be an exception.

And just to fill in, Haze wasn't a bad game at all, I bet you didn't even play it. It got hacked into pieces because it was released at a time when the PS3 got bashed from every site in existance.

If you said Haze wasn't a bad game, then it was YOU who probably didn't play the game. I bought Haze, played it, then promptly returned it. The only good thing about it was a couple of the multiplayer boards, but like a lot of people, I swallowed the kool-aid because Free Radical made Time Splitters, so therefore it had to be good.

- Whiny punk of a character (my main gripe with Baldur in Too Human as well)

- Those idiot crackhead squad-mates that went "Boosh!" all of the time

- character's too stupid to see that he was played by both sides (again like Baldur)

- hit-and-miss graphics

Anyone who thought Rage or Haze looked good after seeing gameplay was obviously blind. Both of those games had horrible AI. And if the devs don't put time into AI, then they certainly aren't going to put time anywhere else. And that'll just leave the game feeling lifeless.

LoU, however, shows incredible AI...perhaps the best in the industry (unless what we've seen so far is just some kind of joke). That means that they take the game seriously. They want it real...visceral... And that only points to good things.

I agree with the author. The fact that the AI acts so differently and are so responsive to what you do makes it a lot more frightening and thrilling. Just imagine if the monsters act this way. I especially liked the part where the guy ran off to hide when he saw Joel had a gun and ran off to plan an attack against him and Joel actually had to hunt him down. You actually felt the suspense as you turned every corner ready to attack as soon as the guy appeared and then he just suddenly jumped out wielding a Molotov. That made me jump and I wasn't even playing the game.

Wow some real sour grapes in this article. Why did I get so many disagrees? What did i say to offend the people of N4G? Besides the one bubble trolls that are always lurking about disagreeing in every Sony article I have no idea what i said to warrant so many disagrees.I thought it was scary the way the AI reacted and it was a lot more suspenseful then when you know exactly what is coming every time.

The chainsaw guy in RE4 didn't seem as scary once I knew when and where he is coming from but if he appeared at different times from different places doing different things it would have have made him a lot scarier.My most fearful thought is that this is just how the way the humans react, the monsters who seem to be much stronger, faster and seem to have more highly developed hearing must be a nightmare to contend with. Just imagine a bunch of monsters that react differently to everything you do instead of just simply staggering along like a mindless zombie.

The creature in the first trailer reacted to the mere sound of Joel cocking the the gun and reacted accordingly. Just imagine that even the slightest sound could have them searching and sniffing around for you. Or if they work together in packs to hunt and/or ambush you. That would be scary.What adds even more to the fear factor is the fact that the action doesn't stop when you go into your bag for supplies. That means that scavengers and/or monsters could be bearing down on you while you fumble for something to defend yourself.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, smash. From the gameplay footage I wouldn't call the game scary because I wasn't particularly scared when watching them...intrigued yes, but not scared.

However if you use your imagination...as you apparently did, it's possible to see how this game could be a really good survival horror game, and actually have real scares. Not just cheap campy scary stuff that doesn't make you even blink an eye.

I don't know about all that, but in simplest terms Naughty Dog has pushed the boundaries of AI that actually makes them look believable.

We always hear about how other games have "advanced AI" but we end up usually seeing the same patternized stuff.

It is. Completely different. The ones hating on this really have no idea, just none. They think it's just another third person shooter with good AI.

The AI here, is beyond what has been achieved before. It's clear that these people don't have enough interest to notice, but these enemies act real. More real than any other computer controlled AI. THAT is what's scary, and THAT is what this article is about.

It's not visceral scares like in your standard horror games, but realistic 'your life is in peril' scares, and because these enemies are as well equipped to deal with the situation as you are, they are fear-worthy foes. The fact that their actions will change on the way you approach each situation means that each encounter is unpredictable, so therefore more tense, and therefore, more scary.

I dunno about "truest form of fear", but I don't think the author is far off. The fear of the unknown is close to the worst kind of fear.

The combination of industry leading AI, real and true to life survival scares and the lack of regen health and non pause inventory screen (as well as low ammo etc) make this a truly scary game.

Naughty Dog is brilliant with their graphic design.. I love the detail everywhere.. No excuses for console ports to look like $hit if they can achieve this.. Survival at its best.. Kinda makes you wana throw on a swiss gear backpack & get lost in the amazon lol

All I got to say is that when I start playing this game, I know my heart will be racing. Joel is a very human character and with the type of enemies in this game has that are almost unpredictable I think it will drive a real sense of fear because you feel as though you are Joel and you feel the suspense and maybe even the thrill. When your Nathan Drake you feel superhuman and almost like a Tank that knows how to do parkour and win every hand to hand fight. But when your Joel, you are totally vulnerable in every corner and every pounding minute. Can't wait for this game.

It looks cool but it also looks almost exactly like Uncharted.

The fact that you have to climb on top of a bus to get inside a building and the little girl is still gonna ask you how you plan on getting to the bridge. I hate stuff like that. It doesn't make as much logical sense as it should and they don't care.

The little girl also sounds way too cocky in general, its like an 11 year old version of Nathan Drake.

The fact that they would dare to be so blatant with the "borrowing" is kind of a turn off.

Also, I see no evidence from the demo that the choices the player makes changes the plot other than the order in which you face the enemies and how much damage you take in the process. And there can't be but so many variations of that.

All in all I think you guys are foolish for hyping this up. I'm confident this will be a good but not spectacular single player experience that will have little replay value, definitely not worth a buy.

No I DO NOT want a sandbox. Grand Theft Uncharted is not what I'm asking for. But several paths rather than just one, in wide open areas is my greatest wish.
