they are not master story tellers ill give them heavenly sword but enslaved was prince of persia 08 with the ability to die, and an annoying companion

NewMonday4246d ago (Edited 4246d ago )

they are great with art and cinematics that is it

prototypeknuckles4246d ago

ill give them that, but besides that, nothing else

NewMonday4246d ago (Edited 4246d ago )

double post

SamPao4246d ago

They always have me at their trailers and the great vision they have for the games, but when it comes to play it... man I was so disappointed playing Enslaved...
However Heavenly Sword is a Masterpiece when it comes to Characters, so I forgive them everything in that game.. BUT NOT ANYMORE!
Now I want more from DMC, We got enough games to choose at the beginning of next year, so NT you better do your best and beyond..

NewMonday4246d ago

the latest DmC trailer gave me such a headache from bad camera movement, and the fighting was far from smooth

DragonKnight4246d ago

Yeah, NT have learned to manipulate trailers to make a game seem better than it is. That's one of the reasons all these people who are saying "you have to try out DmC before you judge it" should know why people don't even want to do that. NT have made 2 games that don't deliver, though Heavenly Sword was decent at best.

Godmars2904246d ago

They get too much credit as story tellers.

Yes HS had an interesting story, but much of it came off as out of place camp to me. The bit with the king at least ever though it was still generally good/funny, there was still a sense that he was subbing from a different and less serious title.

They also have problems with gameplay balancing.

Ritsujun4246d ago

NT studio theme song is by JB

fei-hung4246d ago

They can do graphics and story telling, but they are not masters at them.

The likes of TellTale games are masters at story telling. ND are masters at blending cinema with gameplay, many studios are masters at crafting great gameplay mechanics.

Unfortunately, NT are best at trash talking and hyping themselves and their game as well as shifting blame on people.

As for Heavenly Sword (my 1st PS3 game); the game was good apart from the broken difficulty curve when you get to the last boss. I wouldnt say it was great as hack n slash mechanics were done better in previous games on the PS2 and Xbox.

Enslaved on the other hand was just annoying. From Monkey himself right down to crapy ending.

DragonKnight4246d ago

Ok, perhaps "masters" was an over-exaggeration. The point is that they do storytelling better than they do anything else.

fei-hung4246d ago

Agreed. Also loved the art direction in HS. NT are sitting on a lot of potential (the devs), but need good or better leadership.

DragonKnight4246d ago

True. Tameem needs to shut up. Have you noticed how many developers are viewed negatively because of the stupidity of their leaders?

Xperia_ion4246d ago

You've played one of their games you played them all. The speed of their combat engine is always the same. Platnuim> Ninja Thoery cause the games they make feels different then the last.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC5d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos4d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga4d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer5d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6025d ago (Edited 5d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya5d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde5d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP5d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming13d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long13d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10113d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor13d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6913d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming13d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno13d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming13d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

I hope he forms a new studio soon

Cacabunga17d ago

It is a good studio.. i really enjoyed their dmc game that i platinumed it.
I did not try hellblade, because it doesnt tell me much.. Enslaved was very mehhh
Heavenly Sword was good not great. Amazing graphics back in the day but so repetitive and not so engaging in the long run.

stoney10117d ago

I really enjoyed Enslaved and Heavenly Sword back in the day. Wish they'd return to that sort of game. Hellblade isn't really for me to be honest. Not saying it's not a good game, I just couldn't get into it.

Popsicle16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

That is fair. I enjoyed Hellblade but can definitely see how it isn’t for everyone.

Would like to see how Heavenly Sword would have turned out if developed today. It’s easy to forget that games like Heavenly Sword were unprecedented and in their infancy.

shinoff218316d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Enslaved has been their favorite game for me. Loved the atmosphere.

1nsomniac16d ago

Heavenly sword was a staggeringly good game!! One of the most memorable of the PS3 generation in my opinion.

Babadook716d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Heavenly sword was good. It had ambitious graphics and as a result the frame rate suffered and as a result the gameplay suffered. But the story was phenomenal. Great acting, especially Andy Serkis as the king.

Jingsing16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

"Microsoft" we all read between the lines. We have seen the exact same thing happen with many of their other acquisitions

InUrFoxHole16d ago

Jesus man! Try reading the article at least.

cthulhucultist16d ago

One thing that pleasantly surprised me, was the Switch port, as back then it was my only console. The graphics were amazing and the artistic design helped a lot to enhance the visuals.I took some really impressive screen shots while playing which I still revisit them from time to time to remind me what a capable developer (QLOC) can achieve with weaker hardware.
