Have You Played: Vanquish

TGH Writes: "For those who have let this excellent title slip by them, Vanquish is an amazing third-person cover based shooter, and if you’re looking for a six to seven hour non-stop roller coaster ride of high speed, high octane gaming greatness, then Vanquish‘s single-player campaign is definitely for you."

I've played it multiple times. Excellent game. I love the pacing of the game.

Knight_Crawler4240d ago

Played it and it was ok but not what it was hyped up to be.

The thing that killed it for me was how easy the game was and the constant holding your hand through out the entire game.

I do however give it some credit for being diffrent but a shame that it was so easy...hope platnium games strays away from trying to casualize MGS Raising. More developers need to play games like Ninja Gaiden Black or Demon Soul.

ShaunCameron4240d ago

You know that Bayonetta (also made by Platinum Games) can be played on "Very Easy" mode? I don't think they are gonna stray way from trying to attract a wider audience.

Neckbear4240d ago

You're serious?

It's like you're completly ignoring the existence of anything but the difficulty levels deemed BRAINDEAD RETARDED CASUAL and CASUAL. Or the God Hard difficulty, which rivals Ninja Gaiden Black's Master Ninja in challenge. If you're really complaining about it being easy, I would recommend you to go complete the game in that mode. Rather, I dare you.

admiralvic4240d ago (Edited 4240d ago )

Play it on god hard and tell me Demon Souls is harder. Seriously, Vanquish is a hard game. The PS3Trophies.org trophy guide lists it at 9.5 and has a 8.5 overall rating on ps3trophies.org. (with most people listing it as 10/10...) This is completely due to how frightening Tactical Challenge 6 is (which is EASIER than god hand...). So yeah, easy and hand holding indeed.

Also just to note, I platinumed Bayonetta, Vanquish and Anarchy Reigns.

guitarded774240d ago

I've been meaning to, but I have school, work and married life keeping me busy, and a huge backlog of games. I'll probably order it this week.

sinncross4240d ago

Played it multiple times and it was great.

Reminded me of playing old skool Contra but in 3D.

SilentNegotiator4240d ago (Edited 4240d ago )

The game had a very damning issue; melee sharing power with the jets. You had to play the game strictly as a shooter because bothering to use melee left you exposed for a long time.

Plus, it was very low on content.

A decent bargain bin pickup, but that's it.

And once again, my favorite critic says it best:
http://www.destructoid.com/...

"For instance, Sam's rocket gliding ability is governed by an energy meter. His melee attacks are governed by the same meter. Yes, you read that right, Sam actually needs energy to punch his opponents, and once he's landed a single successful punch, he can't glide away since the energy meter completely drains. Several times, I punched an enemy, failed to kill it thanks to Sam's inability to aim his punches properly, and was killed because I could neither defend myself or swiftly escape"

sypher4240d ago

Once you get good at the game (anyone trying to Platinum will soon have to climb the mountain that is Vanquish and realize all the little things you can do to improve) you don't keep the jets on, you tap it like a machine gun that way it auto regenerates whilst you are still moving solving the issue of running out of energy.

SilentNegotiator4240d ago

Have you played Vanquish? Melee completely depletes your charge.

One of the best third person shooter ever.

ab5olut10n4240d ago

agree with all above, awesome game

TheMasterShake4240d ago

yes i did and game sucks, it was boring, short, and repetitive. platinum games is way overrated.

Knight_Crawler4240d ago

Have to agree with everything you said...the one thing that probably would have made this game feel a little bearable would have been co-op.

mastershredder6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Starhawk over Warhawk?...... Dude, NO ONE should listen to you.

Odd choices for "best" more like you settled as these being the "best" that available to you at the time, cause a lot of these blow or were average to poor performers that ended up in bargain bin.

Missing too many great sci-fi titles here. The Void, The Resistance Series, Killzone 2 and 3, Enslaved, man.. there were so many, this is redicu-list.

FreeckyCake6d ago

Nobody should listen to you either with that attitude.

OtterX6d ago

I agree that Starhawk shouldn't be above Warhawk, however I must say that Starhawk multiplayer was incredible for its time! Many people wrote it off bc the single player was quite terrible, bc it was basically 1 huge tutorial for the multiplayer. But I can tell you never spent any significant amount of time in MP. It was doing incredibly tense base building w air, foot and land vehicle (and mech!) combat long before Fortnite was ever a thing.

I bet it would have been much better received if it had just ditched the story mode all together. So many people like yourself completely wrote it off based on reviews by reviewers that let the criticism of single player weigh heavily on their scores. I bet you didn't even play it.

Friendlygamer6d ago

The riddick games are some of the best stealth titles ever, highly underrated

YourMommySpoils6d ago

What games? All recall plating was Escape from Butcher Bay.

Friendlygamer6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

There's also the less acclaimed 'assault on dark Athena'

( also, not saying this to you specifically but there's both resistance and killzone games on the list, it's amazing how even something so simple and innocent as a game list can be turned into misinformed vitriol here lol )

jznrpg6d ago

Glad to see Resonance of Fate. Enslaved was pretty good too. I’m sure there are others nobody has listed but I’m too tired to try and think of anything

Titan fall 2 was chefs kiss. For those of you who haven't played it go ahead. Brilliant. With each level being creatively different.

Yui_Suzumiya320d ago

Island, Steins;Gate Elite and Soma.

MadLad320d ago

Soma is an epic experience.

jznrpg320d ago (Edited 320d ago )

Does ISLAND have English subs ? I can’t find a copy that says it has English subs for PS only the Switch version which I rather not buy .

Love Steins Gate and Soma

shinoff2183319d ago (Edited 319d ago )

FRom what i could find. Nothing with English subs.

Yui_Suzumiya318d ago

I own a physical copy on Switch and it does have English subtitles so it's all good on Switch and Playstation.

Yui_Suzumiya318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

My bad. Steam and Switch have English but PS4 and Vita only have Japanese. Sony doesn't mess with many visual novels which is why I only own a Switch OLED and laptop for all my games.

Actually great list TBH I agree with all 10

I hope one day we get some remakes for the following

The saboteur(with a proper remake and quality of life features this game could be great)
Scarface world is yours
Binary domain ( such a great game with great story)
GUN(this needs a remake)
Space marine 40k(such fun time)

Would also like to suggest adding the mercenary series even the 2nd game which is disliked by many is a fun time

cthulhucultist355d ago

I recently finished Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and found it to be very enjoyable.

The game respected the lore and the gameplay was quite decent.

The color palette was a bit underwhelming (backdrops and setting) and recycled but I think that it deserved better.

Here's hoping for an amazing sequel
