To be honest, the way they're wording things it doesn't seem to be Final Fantasy XIII-3 either, but perhaps some sort of new spin off series featuring Lightning.

user54670074257d ago (Edited 4257d ago )

hopefully not

Theres much more deserving FF characters then her to get their own spin off

Aaron, Squall, Yuna, Vivi, Tifa for example

@AdmiralSnake

LOL...the only person who is trolling is you who is calling someone for having an opinion who is differn't from yours. Just because you like FF13 your getting p*ssed off because something you like is being called by someone else

There's a lot of people whining about this game. But every article about final fantasy XIII they come to whine even more about why this game is being made. Obviously its being made because its wanted. There more towards japan than westerners. So pretty much people in japan loves final fantasy XIII series. So its here to stay. So deal with it.

Seems more and more likely alright.

I'd really like a XIII-3 eventually though. I mean I say this a lot on n4g, but if XIII-3's jump in quality is similar to the jump between XIII and XIII-2, it promises to be pretty awesome.

Still, I am intrigued as to what they're gearing up to reveal.

iamtehpwn4257d ago

To be honest, it'd make a lot more sense to make this game that is both separate from 'XIII' in a name sense, and features Lightning. Lightning is still a pretty mainstream gaming icon outside of just the FF fandom, and it would also allow them to finish XIII's story. They could also go off in different direction in terms of gameplay.

They refer to it as a "New Direction", that alone seems to confirm to me that it's something that can't entirely be called Final Fantasy XIII-3.

-Omega4257d ago

Why are they trying to force Lightning or anything FF13 realted down our throats...the majority of us Square don't like her or FF13 in general.

Out of all the FF games why expand this one the most, I mean I know we had a few spin offs for FF7 but it was popular but what about FF8 or FF9.

A FF8 sequel for example could expand on that rumor Sqaure debunked about Rinoa becoming Ultermecia and the SeeDs looking for a way to stop history repeating it's self...explore alternative timelines/worlds since FF8 explored Time Travel

Reibooi4257d ago (Edited 4257d ago )

From a finical and technical standpoint they are expanding the XIII universe so much because of the A) they know how to work with the engine much better and B) A metric crap ton of content was cut from the original XIII and so they are retooling and reworking that content into new games to help their bottom line.

As for the majority not liking Lightning speak for yourself. Most do in fact like her quite a bit they just didn't like the game she ended up being in.

oricon4257d ago (Edited 4257d ago )

I like Lightning as a character too bad she from a game thats hated, people see her as a Cloud clone which she is not the characters personality is similar in that their both "lone wolfs" type of characters beside that their different.

I dislike how they advertised her on the box on FF13-2 when shes not even permanent party members, shes barely in the game, as she was the only real character i liked from FF13.

-Omega4257d ago

No she's not well liked, the majority of people don't like her...it's a fact. Take a look around the internet, FF13 was hated on but she was hated on because of her crap character. She was boring, bland, a moan and a right cow at the end of the day.

oricon4257d ago

Shes actually one of the few characters in FF13 thats liked in the FF community outside of Sazh and Fang.

iamlegend99994257d ago

Actually the majority of you are like 7 to 3. That 3 is you and the 7 is for the people who actually engoy FF13. I've heard lighting and the others are big hits in japan. For westerners, they just like to whine. Probably why square enix doesn't listen to us anymore.

VileAndVicious4256d ago

I agree FF13 is one of my least favorite in the series....but I never really cared for 8 either personally lol. I guess Im the only one here though. I enjoyed FF9 infinitely more

Locksus4257d ago

Well, we'll see soon enough.

PersonaCat4257d ago

While I was left quite disappointed with XIII overall, I always thought Lightning was a cool character. She's a freaking badass in Dissidia and even though no one else seems to think so, I think she'd be fun to play as in All Stars.

Eamon4257d ago (Edited 4257d ago )

I have a slight suspicion that this announcement will be something along the lines of:

Lightning will be appearing in Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Summons754257d ago

that would be interesting seeing as how the games are technically connected but they are completely different worlds with no connection besides the mythos. If they could do it good for them but I'm honestly expecting a CGI movie maybe

user54670074257d ago

With how long it's taking Versus to come out I honestly think they are tweaking it to seperate them and removing the FF13 mythos from the game.

iamtehpwn4257d ago (Edited 4257d ago )

@MikeCosgrove.

You'd have to entirely rewrite Versus XIII's story for that to happen, because it is heavily centered around the Goddess Etro, and there are mentions of the story revolving around the power of the Nation's Crystal which presumably is similar to Nation's Crystals in Type-0 which transformed people in L'cie.

So in other words, Versus XIII would have to become a very different game.
Even Type-0's name change wasn't to separate it from Fabula Nova Crystallis as it was advertised in Japan as being an FNC game. Also, Fabula Nova Crystallis Myth in itself isn't 'flawed'.

KingOptimusOrigin1114257d ago

Nope, don't see it happening different universe and time. The only thing they have in common is the L'Cie.

Eamon4256d ago

But Etro is involved and in FF13-2, Lightning is technically removed from the universe(s) to serve Etro, right?

This whole 'Lightning Saga' can only mean one of two things:

a) Final Fantasy XIII-3
b) Lightning appearing in FFvs13.

KingOptimusOrigin1114256d ago (Edited 4256d ago )

I understand, but the only logical answer (as much as I hate to say it) would be FF XIII-3 because if you think about it Nomura said in the past that Final Fantasy Versus XIII means against XIII. Which means Versus is alternate universe to FF XIII only sharing some things but completely different story, characters, world, and plus the game is in real time. I simply don't see Lightning having anything to do with Versus XIII based of this info:

I just hope this game wont be multiplatform. Please Square Enix learn from your horrible mistakes.

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972124d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus124d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda122d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B122d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981122d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot122d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda121d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot121d ago

Elda

Not just mine mate

A large majority

So….

Traecy121d ago

N4G commenters such as yourself aren't the majority. The game was well received.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay122d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12124d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay122d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB122d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
