Razer making a stick that's for 360 only when most tournaments use PS3s? doesn't entirely make sense.

DeleteThisxx4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

Most majors take place on PS3's due to Sony sponsorship, there are a lot of small locals that use 360. However, most players preferred platform is 360 due to the lack of input lag. Besides, I think most players who make a habit of going to tournaments already own a DIY dual-modded stick OR an EightArc for those occasions.

Also, where does it say it's 360 only? Perhaps the 360 model is the only one available for this "beta".

It's just when I looked on the website it said 360 only. It might not be.

Either way most tournament players seem to play on PS3, most fighters sell better on PS3. It doesn't make sense to launch or beta this exclusively on 360. The 360 is far from the preferred platform for fighters, sales figures dictate this.

Also this stick isn't just for SSFIV, SSFIV is 1 frame behind on PS3. Other games are not. Capcom games generally are superior on 360, other fighters tend to be equal or better on PS3.

It's probably 360 only because of some obscure commercial reasoning.

Um, if you knew anything about the FGC you'd realize that nearly EVERY top player plays on 360. I don't care about sales, casual players prefer the D-Pad on PS3. Tournament players use a fight stick and care about an input lag free game.

Both UMvC3 and SSFIV (the two most popular games in the FGC) feature -3 input lag on the PS3 whereas 360 is spot on 60 FPS. Do you realize how annoying that is to deal with when executing 1-frame links which require precision?

Also, you're very wrong about most tournaments using PS3's. All locals (Local battles, Wednesday Night Fights, The Runback, etc) which occur weekly use the 360 because of this exact reason. The only tournaments that use PS3 are the "Road to EVO" events because Sony is a HUGE sponsor of EVO and the TO's want to help prepare the players for something they're not accustomed to.

Don't believe me? Ask Justin Wong, FChamp, RayRay, Fanatiq, Infrit, Noel Brown, Alex Valle, Floe, Mike Ross, Gootecks, Arturo Sanchez. Hell, even watch some of there videos or view their tweets. Each and every single one of them have expressed their distaste for the PS3 as a system for fighting games.

I'd suggest looking into this more because right now you're making false assumptions, just like you did with this stick. Nowhere on that site does it say it is being made exclusively for the 360.

BTW, I am nowhere near being a 360 "fanboy" I PREFER PS3 for nearly all of my gaming needs with the exception of fighters. The PS3's online/inputs are just ridiculous for them.

Not really expecting much from this.. my experience with their peripherals varies but almost all of them felt fairly cheap for the price they ask.

I think the deciding factor if this stick is good or not will be the button and joystick parts. If they are a quality source like Sanwa, then I think it will be a decent stick. If Razer has started making their own button parts, then I don't think it will be worth MadCatz TE fight stick price range.

I'm worried about the bat top... Now, it would be nice if it came with a swappable bat/ball top... Also a swappable 2-4-8-circle gate.

Good call on the top. I prefer the threaded lollipop top so I can unscrew the stick when I take it somewhere. Fight sticks just don't pack well unless you get those threaded tops you can unscrew. However, I'm a square gate guy 100% now. Once I got a 360 down to a frame or two there was no looking back. Much easier SRK motions on a square gate as well.
