PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale – Preview [GamingLives]

GamingLives gets hands-on with All-Stars Battle Royale at this year's Gamescom.

"As much as it initially appeared to be a massive Smash Bros. ripoff, my problems with this game are more than skin deep, and I can’t help but feel that maybe PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale would have been any fun to play if it had stolen more from the Nintendo brawler."

I have the beta and i disagree with pretty much everything the dude in the article states. I'm actually more of a nintendo fanboy; at least more nintendo than Sony, and I gotta say, after about 24hrs of the beta, it'd become better than smash bros to me. It's not a copy nor a rip off. (Copy would mean it's 'exactly the same'. That's the definition of 'copy'. I'ts not a rip-off either. That would insinuate it's of lesser value.)

I can easily say this game is it's own game and feels like one despite looking like Smash. After playing the beta, I'd realized that it has many MANY more differences than similarities. And no, it's not always clustered. It's VERY fun, and I've come to like the 'Supers'. Before I played the game, I'd HATED the idea of supers. I wanted something smash-eque. But I honestly think I like the idea of Supers better than smash's gameplay. I used to live off smash (literally...) and after playing this, Smash doesn't seem so amazing anymore. And that's after only playing the beta!

Despite being a Nintendo Fanboy, I'd say, in my HONEST opinion, that this game takes the cake. Love it! And it's only in BETA!

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop520d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer526d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
