From Heavy Rain to Half Life 2, 411's David McGregor counts down his list of the Top 8 Most Depressing Video Games!
Given the medium's wild diversity, this primer of the essential video games everyone should try is a good place to start.
I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.
Tomb Raider 1
Driver 1
Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG
LINK 2 the past
Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1
Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.
Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
A breakdown of the best Silent Hill Characters that inspired and frightened gamers.
The 2024 Game Anniversaries include some major titles including Half-Life 2, Uncharted 2, and Minecraft.
Wow, I didn't find any of those games depressing. At all.
The only game that genuinely made me feel depressed was Persona 3 (and by extension, Persona 4). Why didn't I join every club in and speak to every single person I saw every single day in high school? WHY!?!?!?
That and when I played Modern Warfare 2 for the first and only time and was hit with the realization that the garbage in front of me represented the biggest, most popular, most representative side of gaming. Yikes. Almost took that cyanide pill I keep in my pocket right then and there.
Silent Hill 2 had an atmosphere so oppressive and depressing I couldn't replay it right after I finished it. I also got depressed by the thought of encountering P. Head again in that maze.
I wish whoever made SH2 comes back and make another SH.
Should add Demon's/Dark Souls to the list. Tower of Latria and Valley of Defilement levels had the most depressing atmosphere, to me at lease.
Some of the games you mention are depressing in theory but not when you actually play them. They're not depressing at all.
Like HL2, where in the game did you find it depressing?
Also I think you're using the term 'depressing' quite loosely. Look it up
Depressing??
