Eurogamer Apologizes For Misleading Wii U Graphics Headline

Eurogamer have revised their headline that claimed Sega said Wii U graphics are on-par with current generation consoles. Now they make it clear that developer Sumo Digital was actually referring to the graphics of the Wii U version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, rather than the Wii U console’s graphics. Eurogamer apologizes for the confusion that the original article has caused.

That, or they're just as confused about its going to do as the rest of us.

browngamer414265d ago

Nope. They were trolling for hits.

WeskerChildReborned4265d ago

Yea, they totally twisted the words up so it wasn't an accident.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34265d ago

Only a dummy would believe such notions, the rest of us should buckle our safety belts.

Pushagree4265d ago

They simply got caught telling the truth/ Wii U is a current gen console. We have known this for a long time but nintendo wants us to think that they are catering to the core gamer when they are still rubbing the casual fanbase's back.

PopRocks3594265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

And you base all this on... what?

There are no specific specs, yet we know it uses an AMD Radeon HD GPU and a POWER based CPU. Based on what models they are, the Wii U could either be marginally or significantly stronger than its current generation competition. Take that as you will, but the bottom line is it will be stronger.

As for its games, have you seen its lineup? You explain to me how Assassin's Creed III, Darksiders II, Black Ops II, Aliens Colonial Marines, Tekken Tag 2, ZombiU, Project CARS, Ghost Recon Online and Injustice: Gods Among Us are NOT core experiences?

Newsflash: Games consoles cater to more than core gamers. Microsoft's Kinect and Sony's Move and storybook device also cater to more casual audiences.

yabhero4265d ago

You said: "We have known this for a long time"
You meant " We Sony/MS fans have HOPED this for a long time"

Hisiru4265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

@Pushagree
If x720 is as powerful as the leaked document says (4x~6x more powerful than x360) then WiiU will have no problems with graphics in the next gen even if the WiiU is just 2x more powerful than x360 (as people is saying) You guys are expecting way too much.

And no, it's not possible to have current gen specs on the WiiU because it has updated hardware, so it's not possible for it to be on par or worse either. Actually, it would be very expensive for Nintendo to use older/worse hardware.

Even John Carmack is not excited for the next gen because he says we won't have a big leap this time (he is probably right and he probably knows something because he have the devkits).

If you guys keep dreaming about another Wii situation, I think you will all be disapponted. But hey! There is no reason to downplay another platform. I have a Wii and PS3, I am happy with both systems. No need to desperately attack another console because you are scared it will be "powerful enough", just enjoy your games.

In order to have the same Wii situation (graphics wise), PS4/x720 needs to have a 12TFlop GPU, which is just impossible. We also had an SD-->HD transition and the only transition we would have now is HD (1080p) --> HD (1440p), which is not a good difference, and do'nt expect next gen consoles to go above 1080p 60fps if the leaked specs are true. Again, if the leaked specs are true, WiiU will be able to compete against the others with decent graphics even if fanboys doesn't want it, doesn't matter how good your dream is, it's not gonna happen.

The funny thing here is that if you say: "WiiU weak, current gen specs blablabla" you get bubbles and agree votes, but if you say the truth and you post arguments and some facts, you lose bubbles and people give you a disagree.

The best thing to do is just enjoy our games and forget this stupid war.

SilentNegotiator4265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

@yab

Stop kidding yourself. The signs are there, clear as day. All 1st party and several 3rd party games getting shown are getting confirmed 720p native. Even at 60fps, that isn't an unheard of 7th gen feat.

The Wii U isn't an impressive leap graphically and pretending like disappointments are ALL fanboyism is delusional.

Freakazoid20124265d ago

What? I had to mark your post as bad language. I know its not really bad language, but that last part is just gibberish.

Hisiru4265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

@SilentNegotiator
Yeah, youre using unfinished games to judge a console that is not even out yet. Seems to be smart, right? Also, games like Pikmin 3 were Wii games till last year, it's just launch games. X360 had Gotham Racing, but it also had this at launch:
http://game.ppblogs.com/fil...
Plus, Nintendo already confirmed they have more first party (both new IP AND traditional franchise) + third party games to announce, so we can't really judge anything now, we will have to wait for the big WiiU conference which will announce all the remaining games. Source:
"Those include both our traditional franchises and of course new propositions"
http://nintendoeverything.c...

So again, youre using unfinished games to judg a platform which is not even out yet and still has games to be announced before it's launched.

If it was a Sony/Microsoft console people would say here "wait for the launch LAULZ", but no, it's a Nintend console, and we know how it works here.

I don't know if WiiU will be an IMPRESSIVE leap, but both WiiU and x720 (we still need more info about the PS4, but so far it looks on par with the x720 if all the specs are true) will be able to run next gen consoles with great graphics (something that won't be possible at an acceptable level of fidelity on the Wii,x360 and PS3 due to the old architecture and old feature set on the GPU) and we won't see a huge difference in graphics between the 3 consoles (like we had in the Wii x x360/PS3 situation). Next gen will be better for true games (you know, the people who actually play games instead of attack another company/console) because they will have more options and Microsoft/Sony will have a bigger competitor, so they will try to bring more quality games. It's a win win situation.

You guys expecting an impressive leap next gen are gonna be mad. It's not just me saying, it's also John Carmack (one of the industry's top tech guys). And then, there is also some very reasonable guys who actually understand how hardware works. Like this guy (skip to 5:11):
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

But then, again, I am crushing some dreams and I will get tons of disagrees. Luck for those guys because this is my last bubble.

Let's not forget what gaming is for: Enjoy games and have fun. I wish the best for all of you.

victorGma214265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

@Hisiru
Stop being stupid, people won't read your text, they will just keep saying "WiiU is last gen yadayada", You shouldn't even bother, they will ignore your text (which actually has some good points) and keep doing what they do best.

They don't want to believe it's happening because it hurts their ego/feelings, saying things like "WiiU is on par with current gen systems" is what help some of those guys sleep at night. I don't understand why it makes them happy, it actually would make me sad.

Seriously, I don't understand why people was so happy in the original Eurogamer article (which was wrong and full of crap), why would a gamer want a platform X to be weak?

I am glad you actually gave some good points. Nintendo is a great company just like Sony and Microsoft. I wish the best for all the 3. And now that you said it, I wonder what Nintendo will announce.

SilentNegotiator4265d ago

So, what, they're going to go from 720p in beta stages to 1080p in the final game?

The games are 720p native. Stop trying to convince yourself that isn't a fact because the games are "unfinished"

tehpees34265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

Microsoft is doing the same thing now. Kinect is a big part of their future and if you want to accept the next Xbox you have to accept Kinect.

Join the club..I think even Nintendo themselves are confused with the Wi U

Hisiru4265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

Eurogamer lost my respect long time ago. Unfortunately, that's how "journalism" work nowadays. I hope this stupid console war will end one day, but it's probably impossible.

AO1JMM4265d ago

I'll never trust an article from them again.

YoungPlex4265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

They've totally have ruined their credibility for so called rumors! From this moment on I will think twice before clicking a link from Eurogamer regarding a rumor, or article confirming or denying a rumor. Damn man, was it worth it? Almost everyday I check that site too, guess it moves to the bottom of the bookmarks now. I don't tolerate trolling and lies, two things I can't forgive...

LOL_WUT4265d ago

Why would they have to apologize? I wonder how much they got paid to do this.

PopRocks3594265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

Okay, I know you're not big on the Wii U with your comments, but do you have to make yourself look stupid too?

The original article said something completely different from how Eurogamer's headline was written. So hell yes they should apologize for either purposely trolling for hits or stupidly flubbing up their own news post.

This is what I was talking about in my earlier comment when it came to people having to do some research and know what the hell they're talking about.

Digital Foundry: Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One/X vs PS4/Pro Tested - Can Any Last-Gen Console Cut It?

Digital Foundry’s latest tests on Xbox One and Xbox One X, with comparisons to PS4 and PS4 Pro.

darthv721225d ago

If you purposely limit the output resolution to 1080p on both the pro and X, does it make the framerate more stable?

1225d ago Replies(1)
RaidenBlack1225d ago

They need to implement a more aggressive DRS to maintain a stable framerate.
The very same thing DF stated for AC Valhalla.

porkChop1225d ago

Yup. The resolution doesn't drop low enough or fast enough.

Stanjara1225d ago

No, Xbox does one internal setup of rez, then has a scaler chip that upscales or downscales that rez to your tv output setup. It doesn't matter.
PlayStation Pro is the same only for some games you can force the system to 1080p, or better yet to a regular Ps4 by turning off super sampling. But for some games it doesn't work either like Uncharted 4...Gow...Dark Souls Remasterd...internal setup in those games itself bypass that super sampling off.

Its bad...and we must all wait for patches.

--Onilink--1225d ago

The system output resolution doesnt actually affect in any way the game’s internal resolution.

Profchaos1225d ago

Very good point I'd love to see this tested

Shane Kim1225d ago

I think it's just the video output. The games internal resolution is fixed by the developers.

seanpitt231224d ago (Edited 1224d ago )

I am on a 1080p screen and it will automatically super sample the image down but when your driving around it hits 900p more often on the pro so I don’t think it matters we will just have to wait for more patches until the frame rate gets more stable

Man. Pro nearly always has a bit of an FPS advantage over 1X. At least it happens frequently when the resolution is lower.

Profchaos1225d ago

Yeah exactly that Devs try to squeeze more out of the X and end up with a inferior product my personal preference is fps over resolution either hit a stable 30 with as high as possible res or drop the res until you do.

On the flipside we can see going for a higher resolution on Xbox paying dividends based on players getting a higher resolution on sx than ps5 but it's nothing to write home about only a few rare games I felt like the X gave a better image over the pro rdr2 bring one fit it's grass fidelity but it was minor at best

IRetrouk1225d ago

Still can't believe they released this like this, I've played a bit on ps5, no mad glitches yet but have had 3 shut downs.... not good enough.

Seraphim1224d ago

it's kind of crazy they didn't push back console releases but I bet they needed that pay check. Not to mention all the delays already to get the game where it currently is. CDPR, while notorious, is still a smaller studio who likely doesn't have massive cash reserves. For a brief bit I thought the industry was realizing it shouldn't announce games to early but that doesn't seem to be the case. Though imo more developers should wait until deep enough into development to announce a game that actual footage can be shown and the games release could be w/in a year or two tops.

As for the shut downs. Honestly I don't think it's Cyberpunk causing the shut downs. I finally got my hands on a PS5 Wed. Which is the only reason I bought Cyberpunk. I decided to finish Shadows Awakening before starting CP because if i put something down I tend to not finish it & I prefer what I start unless it's a terrible game. Anyway I'd wager that game crashed at least 5x a night from Wed night through Sat night when I finished it. Shadows Awakening is not a very demanding title & ran completely fine on my Pro; though it had super slow load times lol. Personally I think there's just issues in the software on PS5 that Sony needs to iron out. We early adapters are again beta testers.

A friend also got one Wed after I gave him a call to let him know they were in stock. I swung by tonight and he started talking about the Cyberpunk shut downs but once I said what my experience was he quickly realized. Dam, that's actually been happening to me too with other games. Though I don't believe he's had a problem with any of his PS5 games. Just PS4 titles he's playing and he tends to play half a dozen titles at the same time. I haven't actually played a PS5 game but imagine those run fine. It's just a kink in the software causing shut downs on PS4 games atm.

IRetrouk1224d ago (Edited 1224d ago )

Its not the system from my experiance, I've played ghost, god of war, need for speed, tekken 7 and spiderman so far on my system with no issues, I've also played astro bot, spiderman miles and remastered, dirt 5, godfall, and cyberpunk, only dirt 5 and cyberpunk have caused a shutdown issue. Both devs have acknowledged these issues too by the way.

A lot of momentum this week in the effort to tackle loot boxes. With an Australian study also proving that gamblers are far more likely to purchase loot boxes, it's time for legislators to get very serious about this issue and update our laws. Loot boxes are exploitative and it seems to are detrimental to many consumers purchasing them. EA are refusing to follow the law in Belgium because there's too much money on the line for them. They are never going to reign themselves in. As an Irishman, it's nice to see our signature on the list.

If it wasn't for them defying Belgian law, you may not have seen this response. They're their own worst enemy.
