SPC writes, "I am now retiring the SPC Mailbox. From its ashes and taking over is the SPC Soapbox. I find that I have a lot of topics I want to talk about, but I don't have enough to say about them to fill a full article. That's where the SPC Soapbox comes in. I get to talk about not only subjects I want to discuss, but I also get to touch upon topics that are of interest to the SPC community (so in essence the SPC Mailbox lives on).
For the inaugural edition of the Soapbox segment, I will ramble in my generally incoherent fashion about Sony's presentation at Gamescom, the question regarding if The Legend of Zelda series is still relevant, and whether or not the Wii U is merely a gimmick."
Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.
This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.
cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
Sony is like the only ones outta the 3 that has atuff like like this pop up changing thing in ways.
Sony has an amazing show at Gamescom. I only wish that other companies (Microsoft and Nintendo) gave a damn about this important event.
The problem with Nintendo is that it can not handle direct competition.
Remember Nintendo was accused of industry monopoly?
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Remember how Sonic the Hedgehog gave Mario a run for its money & totally destroyed Nintendo's US monopoly?
N64 proved no match to PS direct competition in terms of games.
When they went head to head with power against PS2 & Xbox Nintendo was devastated.
That is why it needed to sidestep and resort to gimmicks like Wii motion gaming in order to avoid the GameCube mistake twice.
Wii was considered by many as cowardly. Nonetheless it was a safe bet, smart & wise move
They are lucky Sony did not care for casual & kiddie gaming on the Wii & DS platform. It was borrowed time well spent. Mario & Pokemon had no opposition or direct competition.
M$ on the other hand was so busy trying to put Sony down in order to prevent it from making a grand slam leaving Nintendo scott free.
What if Sony & MS published their own Mario killer like Sega did? Will Nintendo be what they are today?
Also it seems Nintendo success & fortunes turn only when the competing companies have their own internal management problems. Not as a direct effect of their products in the market.
It seems Nintendo when challenged directly is a sitting duck imho.
