Darksiders 2: Epic, brutal, ambitious - but still comes up short | CVG

The world itself is made to be gawped at from afar, not least because looming temples and mossy forests suffer jagged edges and screen tearing up close. But it feels churlish to blame Darksiders 2 for suffering the effects of six-year old hardware. Its ambition is laudable and, while it doesn't truly excel in any area - action, platforming or RPG - its lengthy campaign features a succession of engaging, well-realised moments. And, ultimately, in a barren summer free from big game releases, perhaps that's not to be sniffed at.

If it was a generic millitary they would have given it a 9, God, i hate sites like those

i've played because i got an early copy, and believe me it's the best hack'n'slash game since GoW3

I stopped reading at this...

"Fighting is merely fine, never dull but certainly not up to the standard set by Batman: Arkham City. It's less a case of chaining moves, each successful connection climbing in intensity, and more using the same move over and over, no real finesse or timing needed. Combat is a whirl of indecipherable flailing punctuated by flying globs of purple blood and streaky slash marks."

Batman Arkham City's Combat can be summed up with one button. On the PS3 that button is Triangle. You can literally make through almost all fights but mashing triangle. The exception are boss fights and fights with specific enemies, but even then you can almost always get away with it. I only varied my movements because I personally was looking for some variety, but I could make it through with just the triangle.

Consider every action RPG since ps1......most games in this genre have 1/10/the the combat variety of DS2. And many people end up using the same attacks over n over. Yet those games rock hard! dS2 will be epic.

I'll admit....give me bayonetta 2 with ds2 open world - Zelda feel.....omg that'd be a sweet game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I click the link I see 4/5 stars, not 7.5

Darksiders 1 is the better game but I like part 2 as well.

Daver1649d ago

Darksiders was a lot better than darksiders 2. Even darksiders 3 was better than 2

Darksiders 1 is a complete game but it’s obvious with Darksiders 2 they ran out of budget after the Ice world and the game just becomes a poorly paced mess.
