Mods Have Carried PC Gaming, Expect More Games to Hitch a Ride

Andrew O. of GAMElitist.com - "If you are playing your PC games without looking into the mods that may exist for them, you are truly missing out on the potential of that game, and what makes PC gaming so unique."

I sure wish consoles would get mods but that probably won't happen.

BiggCMan4271d ago

Yea it's disappointing :/ The only game I know on console that supports mods is Unreal Tournament 3, I think the PS3 version only, but not entirely sure. Also one of the only games that I can remember on console that supports keyboard and mouse officially.

I would like to see Consoles get mod tools and Next Gen I strongly believe they will!!!

My Logic: well seeing how rumored specs have next Gen consoles using x86 CPu's and having a SOLID PC format with an Operating system and all makes me believe that Devs will either release mod tools as Paid DLC or someone is gonna hack a game to shreds and make their own Mods tools.

Todays Modders are Tomorrows Top Devs who bring Fresh new ideas to gaming and keep it going. The PC Dev community has embraced this so it's only a matter of time (Next Gen) that Microsoft and Sony embrace modders.

I think they will because Sony and microsoft have both opened the door for Homebrew and Indie Devs on their systems and Sony has even gone further with being able to play other gamers custom made levels in certain games! (I can't remember if Xbox360 has a game where you can play other gamers made levels and stuff).

Some of the PC biggest games, Trends, and current top genres were created and invented by modders. MOBA's, Tower Defense, DAYZ, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2 hats, Diablo 3 Store, etc.. all came about cause of modders.

Im sorry but next gen consoles will never run mods, they want closed platforms so they can milk the kids & adults that know no better.
As for them opening their doors to homebrew..LOL
They closed that door at sony very fast & you need cfw to run homebrew now.Xbox went as far as banning hardrive swaps & milking indi devs for a nice slice their money.
It boils down to the platfom holders restrictions,$ony & M$ will never give people who they now have buying their yearly DLC the abilty to extent the life of their games when they make nothing on it.

I thinking modding will find a place on consoles when the next generation rolls around (or if the Ouya sees success). Modding scares a lot of people that think it's complex or difficult when it really isn't. It's one of the greatest aspects of PC gaming and generally strengthens the community as a whole.

Bladesfist4270d ago

Yes but the PC demographic is different to the console demographic what percentage of PC gamers want mod support. A lot. How many console gamers even care about mods? I don't know.

It always great when the mod community makes a game more interesting then its original intent.

I appreciate even more when the community fixes broken ass PC games these so called big time developers fail to fix. Knowing it from the very beginig. For shame.

I dont really game on PC, but i am well aware of some of the great mods out there for games such as GTA4 and wish that consoles would some day have mods. As a matter of fact these same mods are tempting me to buy/or make a gaming rig. Some of that stuff looks insane.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast18d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22918d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko18d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
