Sounds Like Porting Dark Souls To PC Was About As Difficult As Playing The Game

Porting console-only titles to PC is becoming almost an afterthought, something a publisher might only do if a game was successful enough to justify the extra effort and investment to share it beyond the confines of living room hardware. It’s no great surprise then that some studios just don’t have the experience to draw on to get their titles onto the PC, a problem Dark Souls developer From Software encountered bringing its sadistically hard RPG to the platform.

Hopefully the next game they make is developed for the PC and ported to consoles, much easier that way.

It's never going to happen.
Don't get your hopes up.

"souls is a console game"

Not anymore, buddy :D

I would just hate to see the developers limit themselves so greatly in the sales department by becoming a PS3/PS4 exclusive because Steam would allow From Software to shovel in a ton more money (because it costs so little to distribute vs retail box games.)

Face it, console developers want some of that Steam cash.

Aren't the games developed using a PC before moving over to the consoles? So how can it be so difficult?

neoMAXMLC4267d ago

I don't have much knowledge in game development but I'm pretty sure PCs are only used to create game assets. The actual code and tools are programmed for console hardware and tested on debug stations. In the PS3's case it's a giant black box that looks like a PC but operates like a PS3.

I recall Media Molecule making a comment about getting LBP to run on PCs but lagged like crazy. They did it just for the hell of it though. Lol

I hope this game sells really well on PC. PC gamers asked for it, Namco Bandai listened. So go and buy it. It's awesome!

MrAnderson4267d ago (Edited 4267d ago )

It won't sell well, it's ranked really low on Steam for pre-orders, personally, i'd have bought it despite it being a terrible port if it was at least not using GFWL, there's just no way i'm going to put my time into a hard lengthy RPG to have my data get wiped.

And I think most PC gamers feel the same, bad port AND we're probably gonna lose our save data on top of that? I'll pass, I already pre-ordered Darksiders 2.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I feel sorry for the developers, because they did what was asked and ported it to PC, and I am grateful, but GFWL has screwed me so many times, that I just plainly refuse to buy ANY game that uses it anymore, like I say, i'd have overlooked the bad port.

I, as a PC gamer asked for the game, Namco Bandai listened. I then asked them to not ruin the experience by exclusively offering the game with Games for Windows Live, despite it being made available through Steam, which will inevitably account for 95% of the game's sales and which itself offers a far more robust, unintrusive and reliable DRM option. Unfortunately, they haven't listened.

The game will sell less than it should have done for this reason, but be ready to see the blame fall to the pirates and the so called "sorry" state of PC gaming. A real shame.

The prevalence of parrying: Why is it so popular?

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
