I actually knew the Metal Gear thing, but I never noticed any of that other stuff, especially the SotC thing... I love when a game drops some sweet references, but keeps it hewn subtle so you don't have it thrown in your face.

Ever tried switching controllers when fighting Psycho Mantis in MGS4? Greatest Easter Egg of all time.

Maester074269d ago

Psycho Mantis made an appearance in MGS4???

Seriously though yeah I do remember it and it was fantastic, also amusing on Twin Snakes.

ginsunuva4269d ago

MGS had so many ridiculous and hilarious easter eggs and hidden features that you'd think Kojima is crazy for making such complex and advanced games, hours of cutscenes, and then putting in a hundred easter eggs into each game.

The End dying after a week, Psycho Mantis controllers, Hideo 2, Codec "thoughts", Psycho mantis reading your saves, Camera zoom-ins, ZOE marks everywhere, bikini posters, and so many other things.

lol I know right, an easter egg which refers to a previous easter egg.

I liked how there is an easter egg conversation which I know of but never actually found successfully, a conversation in MGS3 via codec, you need to call right after fighting Ocelot, and you get information about Ocelot, that he was born on a battlefield, the same battlefield The Boss gave birth at, same year, which was the confirmation that Ocelot is The Boss' son.

I freaked out when I heard you could kill The End by changing your clock on your playstation or sniping him earlier in the game...hideo you're a nutball

theEx1Le4268d ago

Sniping him, and then watching the wheel of his chair after the explosion come flying towards you is one of the best lol situations I've ever had in a game. Good times.

Jio4269d ago

Wow, I need to go back and replay some of those games. Why don't developers put stuff like this in games anymore so people have a reason to go back and play again?

Soldierone4269d ago

That effort is either put into tacked on multiplayer or overpriced DLC these days..... :/

That or publishers are pushing for such tight timeframes and yearly releases that its simply just hard to get this deep. Heck a lot of games release broken because of this, let alone wanting them to add in small details lol

Summons754268d ago

because why have hidden things you can feel proud of when you find it (or stupid for never noticing it the first couple times you play) when you can have an Achievement for them telling you where to look and how to get it!

Seriously though, hidden stuff is why I use to love talk to friends about gaming. Tell them something they didn't or learn something new. Good Times, Good Times

joab7774268d ago

The internet is a wonderful thing but unfortunately today, it does ruin everything about a game almost immediately after release. It would b hard to hide anything these days. Seriously, I avoid looking at any news sometimes just to avoid ruining my experience...mass effect 3?

Lol, I agree;
There was a time when secrets & easter eggs were hot, before they were even called "easter eggs".
Which reminds me of a very funny story;
I remember a friend of mine could never really find a secret 1st to brag about, so one day, be had cut out an image of Raiden & the Mortal Kombat 2 logo (from an EGM mag) & pasted it on a Sega Genesis cartridge, like the official game, before it came out. He then carried the game around boasting that he had it 1st & no one else does.
Then he would tell you to call him if you wanted to hear it, then he would "remix" the sound test from MK1 & other games to make it sound like a new game, @ most.
We got our biggest laugh when the glue he used did'nt hold up well, which began to peel away, revealing a Mega Turrican cartridge!
Lmao!

dead_eye4268d ago

Well probably because two of them on the list are only covers not in game. Oh and developers still do put easter eggs in them.

boybato4269d ago

metal gear is filled with easter eggs such as what was mentioned in the article. cool thing is even tru repeated gameplay some of which are easy to miss...

grailly4269d ago

WTH? how did I never notice doomguy was only holding one gun? I feel so dumb

rej1014268d ago

He's holding two on the game title screen though. That's probably what everyone is used to seeing. They probably should have included that in the article.

Great finds! I love video game easter eggs. :)
