Despite how you may feel about the Wii you cannot deny that it has been a success. As of March this year it has sold over 95 Million units, which is more than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, it introduced gaming to a larger, more mainstream audience and has helped push technology into new directions; can anyone say for certain that there wouldn’t be a Kinect or PlayStation Move if we didn’t have the Wii?
If you were a 90s kid excited about Nintendo’s upcoming N64 console, you likely read something somewhere about the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive, also known as the 64DD or DD64.
Other nominees include games like SimCity & Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
There are some good nominees in this list that are deserving to be inducted also, but I feel Metroid has had the most impact on the industry out of all of these. Look how Metroid influenced the evolution of the Castlevania games, and the "Metroidvania" subgenre of games have become a prevailing force in gaming today. Especially now, Metroidvanias are bigger than ever.
I can very much see Resident Evil being added later too, bc it really did popularize and define the survival horror genre. I would say that one is next in line.
If any Metroid game should get the honor it should be Super Metroid , it's perfection in my eyes . 30 years later and I still feel it's the most epic shit ever .
The GBA remake deserves it or Super Metroid, the original was a very sloppy and rushed game programmed in 3 months and it shows.
If you've never played the remake, it's absolutely a must play, fixes basically every flaw in the game. Check out ExoParadigmGamer's comparison video.
“Before even Kirby was born, HAL Laboratory released the super-cute puzzler Adventures of Lolo in 1989 and it has held up beautifully.” - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums.
I do love some of the Nintendo Exclusives but my problem with the Wii was always the remote, I never liked it and that put me completely off. It has nothing to do with graphics when games like Zelda are on there. This is one of the reasons the Wii U appeals to me, sure you can still use the wiimote but you don't need to with the new tablet-controller so it's a win for me personally.
I think for a lot of people it was the control that they couldn't get to grips with, I don't think the term waggle was ever used much before in game reviews.
What I like about these games is that they show that when used correctly and properly the Wii was/is a great console, it just got flooded with shovelware which meant people didnt see the gems hiding.
And several hundreds to do not.
Despite what some say, the Wii has a great list of games to play, and the virtual console is amazing. The wii is cheap right now, and the games are cheap. Go pick one up!
1 reason not too
