Metal Gear Solid 4: The 6 hardest trophies - and how to get them

CVG - Loyal fans of Metal Gear Solid 4 have been waiting over four years for virtual silverware to be added to the game, making yesterday's trophy patch arguably the most anticipated update of all time. There are some incredibly tough challenges for those seeking the Platinum, but also a few quirky awards based on Kojima's trademark humour. We've listed what we consider the six hardest trophies, plus four of the easiest to get you started on the way to becoming a Legendary Hero.

Hmm...most of those don't sound so bad. Though I'm one of those people that attempted to do CoD:World at War. The only one that seems hard, is the most talked about one, with the iPod songs.

Regardless, I can't wait to start hunting for these trophies.

dragon824272d ago

COD:WaW was not really that hard to platinum. It was more luck based than anything.

oldfriend864272d ago (Edited 4272d ago )

True, though lots of skill was still involved for the most part. However, that's probably the best way to describe the very last level on the hardest setting; is that you need a lot of luck. lol

Edit: Replace "skill" with "patience".

dragon824272d ago

I can agree with "patience". You had to be patient enough to keep playing long enough to be lucky. LOL

Krimmson4272d ago

That fucking sniper duel...

sikbeta4272d ago

IPods songs is difficult cause you need the Big Boss Emblem to get onr of thodr songs, didn't realise that at first, but I beat it once, can do it again! :D

GameSpawn4272d ago

@sikbeta
iPod songs are difficult not only for the Big Boss emblem, but also the fact you need ALL 40 emblems (another song is award for this).

What is funny is chicken can be almost as hard (by this I usually mean time consuming) as Big Boss to obtain because you need to intentionally be REALLY REALLY BAD. The upside though is getting chicken will also net you a few other emblems like Giant Panda and Pig.

and started playing a bit this morning! I'm so excited for this but DAMN...even after 4 years, MGS4 still looks gorgeous!

RandomDude6554272d ago (Edited 4272d ago )

True that...still destroys 90% of "AAA" games.

The beautiful thing is the tactful use of shaders and bloom. Most developers/artists think that you have to hit people over the head with those.

Tried to play Syndicate earlier and couldn't see anything from the crazy high bloom levels in that game.

Also: best character models out of any game IMO, heavy rain is close

Razmossis4272d ago

Forget about graphics man, this game deserves to be recognised for its sound. It truly is thee best sounding game ever released imo!

darren_poolies4272d ago

Doesn't sound too bad? The 'Sounds of the Battlefield' trophy alone will easily crack MGS4 it's way into most Top 10 Hardest Platinum Lists.

oldfriend864272d ago

I already addressed that when I mentioned the iPod songs.

darren_poolies4272d ago

Didn't actually see that, my bad.

joab7774272d ago

R u kidding me? When I played this, I always thought to myself, "the trophies for this could b so damn hard, if it only had them". Well, it does, and they are very difficult. Seriously, getting through the game in 5 hours killing no one and getting no alerts is extremely hard. Though, I am sure there are many videos breaking down every single scenario. Good luck!

Minato-Namikaze4272d ago

I have world at war, demons souls, and ninja gaiden sigma 2 plats. I love a challenge

BiggCMan4272d ago

The thing with those games (I've read the lists, own the games too) is not that they are hard, or not extremely hard. But they take a SHIT long time to get, and I don't have that type of patience haha. Some legitimate hard platinum trophies are MGS4 as stated in the article, Twisted Metal, Wipeout HD, World at War (though very luck based, is still very difficult because of how cheap it is). Personally, I feel time consuming trophies are not the same as difficult, but some may argue otherwise, it's all good.

RandomDude6554272d ago

Socom Confrontation ............

impossible trophies

brew4272d ago (Edited 4272d ago )

MAG wasn't too difficult for me(although it may harder now since the Domination mode has dried up). It just took some time , and a tiny bit of skill for a few of the ribbons/medals needed. It's a fun one to progress towards.

Now Warhawk takes a ton more time and skill by comparison. Kudos to anyone that pulled that one off.

joab7774272d ago

Add lost planet 2 to extremely long and tedious.

I'm probably gonna try to platinum this.

Double_O_Revan4272d ago (Edited 4272d ago )

8 play troughs for the Snake Eater emblem!? Wow, now that's a challenge.

auen14272d ago

not for some people, including me. speaking of snake eater, i had to have beaten that game over a dozen times trying to get the fox-hound ranking at the end.

DanielBryan4272d ago

Not really. If you skip cut scenes on your second playthrough and take away the load times between levels, this game is barely 2 hours long. The East Europe level is only there to drag out playtime as well.I've seen speed runs of people doing it in 40 minutes and less. It's a terribly short game.

t0mmyb0y4272d ago

You sir, need to check yoself.

DanielBryan4272d ago

You sir, need to go to Youtube and check MGS4 speed run times.MGS4 is a weirdly short game, why pretend it's not? Another weird thing about that game was Snakes Perv Cam.Watch a little girl 24/7 in your menu screen? Sure Kojima, why not.

phigz184272d ago

You must realize that you and other speed runners fall within an extremely small minority of people that play this game. For a speedrunner to say "Oh it's not really a challenge" is like an Usain Bolt saying that running a 100m in under 10 seconds isn't that hard. Piss off, because for most people it is. My last playthrough of MGS was a stealth run of Big Boss Hard and I thought THAT was difficult. I'm sure most people would agree.

DanielBryan4272d ago (Edited 4272d ago )

I'm not a speed runner and I didn't say it wasn't hard.I said it was SHORT.Read what I'm writing people.Even if your not speed running it should only take around 2 hours to finish.Unless you like to stop and listen to each codec talk or watch each cut scene.BTW,I am talking about a second playthrough onwards.Your first play will take maybe 10 hours, thanks mostly to cut scenes. Is there really a need to tell people to piss off? Can't take an opinion from someone else?
@Below
I meant 8 plays of the game wouldn't take long.I realise I might have accidently offened some people.Oh wait,I don't care.

phigz184272d ago

Ok, let's try it like this.

azshorty2003: 8 play troughs for the Snake Eater emblem!? Wow, now that's a challenge.

You: Not really.

Sephiroushin4271d ago

Wait what 40 minutes, really?! The beginning + ending alone are ~20 minutes and you must watch them, you can't skip them! You can make it in less than 2 hours for sure but who cares you won't do anything with speed runs, only required for big boss emblem... Again you can't speed run, emblems requirements make you do weird things, for example chicken emblem requires you to Set off 150 or more Alert Phases, Kill 500 or more enemies, 50 or more Continues, Complete the game in more than 35 hours(so fastest time would be 35 hrs), Consume 50 or more Rations, Noodles, or Regain so again speed runs means nothing, it doesn't matter I can get the big boss emblem in ~3hrs and still will need a playthrough of 35+ hours plus some other for needed emblems ...

auen14272d ago

i hadn't played that game seriously in over two years. i turned it on last night and i was terrible. i sort of got back into the groove this morning. managed to make it through the first act in a little over an hour with no alerts and no kills. it should be easier after one playthrough, provided i get all the sweet weapons, i.e. grenade launcher, mosin nagant, et al. good luck to everyone that needs to do the big boss run.

Blacktric4272d ago

Same thing is happening to me and I am gradually getting better. But the first run I am doing is just for fun and to get myself acclimatized with the mechanics and locations again, killing everyone except the B&B bosses. Then, in my second playthrough, I will do a no kill run and so on.

auen14272d ago

heheh; i couldn't even remember most of the commands at one point. i tried sneaking up behind a guard to take him down or grab him in a choke hold but i forgot it was r1. i kind of wish they had the old school mgs controls, such as the ones used for mgs3 or mgs2. they were awkward but unique.

deep_fried_bum_cake4272d ago

I'm also killing everyone except the B&Bs. It was originally meant be a no kill run but I forgot that it was R2 to stun with the stun knife and then just kept killing from there.

auen14272d ago

@deepfried

if you slit the throats of 25 guys (i think) you'll unlock altair's costume and get the assassin emblem.

deep_fried_bum_cake4272d ago

auen1

I didn't know that, thanks for the info.

Blacktric4272d ago

Yeah that also happens to me a lot. I try to use MGS 3 control scheme to use CQC sometimes, especially against FROGS soldiers, and fail miserably. I also forget proper health management a lot but I am getting to my old self slowly. Also, thanks a lot for the Altair costume/Assassin Emblem info. I should do that at some point in this playthrough.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro41d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7241d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

Profchaos41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2341d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Hideo Kojima laments that Metal Gear Solid 4's digital battlefield 'is no longer science fiction'

Game creator Hideo Kojima is and probably will always be best-known for his creation and stewardship of the Metal Gear series at Konami, which since his departure has been more-or-less on permanent hiatus (don't mention Survive). In his almost three decades these games evolved to the point where they predicted certain problems of the information age (MGS 2), took aim at contemporary topics like Guantanamo Bay (MGS: Ground Zeroes), and ended on a profound sense of sadness about our species' inability to break the cycles of global conflict (MGS V).

It's not clear what sparked this reflection, but Kojima's been thinking about Metal Gear Solid 4, an entry that was (and unfortunately still remains) a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In that entry the player controls an aged Solid Snake in the year 2014, caught up in a civil war being fought between Private Military Companies (PMCs).

Dirty_Lemons352d ago

That was a great fucking game/ movie.

DarXyde352d ago

To this day, it's one of those games where I refuse to skip the cutscenes, no matter how many playthroughs I've done.

But if you ask me...MGS2 was bloody prophetic and has aged like fine wine. That game was blasted as the weakest entry, and yet it's so enduring. I replayed it some time last year and it was remarkable.

sadraiden352d ago

Heed not the lamentations of people that say that MGS2 is bad because of the Snake/Raiden bait and switch. Every MGS game has its own merits, and while most people consider 3 to be the best, they all shine equally in my opinion.

porkChop352d ago

@sad

I would generally agree but with the exception of MGSV. It had truly excellent gameplay/combat, but dull and largely empty open world(s), and a narrative that is literally only half finished.

I really wish Kojima hadn't tried to go open world with MGS. It just wasn't right for the series. But I get it. He didn't want to make MG anymore but he wasn't allowed to make anything else. So he had to experiment within that franchise. Still, it was the wrong direction.

Santouryuu351d ago

I have been thinking about this a lot, MGS2 being the weakest and getting blasted.
My conclusion, for some years now, it's my favorite game of the series.
Going from MGS1 to MGS2 was such a big leap, in graphics, mechanics, etc.
And now it's even more relevant for being 'bloody prophetic' as you stated.

Maybe dust of my vita and play it again...

porkChop352d ago

It's a shame we never got a remaster of MGS4. The original game only rendered at 1024x768, and it ran anywhere from like 20fps to 60fps depending on the area. A remaster could have very easily cleaned up the visuals and performance. It's such a great game. I just want to play it again but in its best possible state.

MIDGETonSTILTS17352d ago

I agree, but they did all sorts of tricks to make use of the ps3’s cell processor….they’d probably have to rebuild the game in order to make it run on another machine. And, if that involves remaking those cutscenes somehow, then itll never happen, unfortunately.

porkChop351d ago

Nah. There have been plenty of remasters of PS3 games and they've turned out fine. It can be done.

PitbullMonster351d ago

Ah a man of culture. Duty calls

cell989352d ago

He was always ahead with this series. MSG1 taught me about the importance of passing on our genes into future generations but in a responsible way, for they are bound to what we experienced in our lifetime. Sons of liberty taught me about global control and simulation runs to test society in a grand scale, the importance and dangers of control of information. MGS3 taught me about patriotism and how that can blind you into doing things you never would have otherwise, all for the sake of politicians who only see you as another pawn in their grand scheme of things. MSG4 taught me war is inevitable and always orchestrated because it's great for the economy. Soon simulation systems will start dictating who goes to war and why, all run through proxies. Privatization of military company are already here. We already started to see how a small group of elites dictates everything that happens. Nothing is done, nothing happens without strings being pulled.

Eidolon352d ago

You learned all this from MGS?

Tody_ZA352d ago

All that was literally the themes and core story of each game, so not surprising he learned that from MGS. Metal Gear Solid 2 in particular is so relevant today, it was more than a decade ahead of its time and a work of genius. Kojima saw what the digital future was going to become when it was in its infancy. Even MGS 5 despite being unfinished and less of a traditional Metal Gear Solid game with regards to story, had a fair bit to say about language and control over it that is relevant today.

It's a highly acclaimed series for a reason, and one of my favourite.

Eidolon352d ago

I've watched my brother play the MGS games, but I only beat MGS1 myself on the PSP in 2014, and MGSV in 2016. I took the themes and plots as lore, tbh.. trying to piece together the story of MGS rather than relating them to our current times.

Tody_ZA352d ago

It's definitely social commentary, Eidolon. You should read the "themes and analysis" section of the Wikipedia page for MGS2: Sons of Liberty for a start! Game was heavy on this.

Eidolon352d ago

I'll take a look, thanks. Actually might pick up MGS2 again (PS Vita), It's been years since I last played. Might start a new game tbh.

sadraiden352d ago

MGS2 literally predicted digital manipulation of information that we see today all the way back in 2001. MGS2 became Zucc's playbook.

Knushwood Butt351d ago

MGS taught me not to pee my pants.

cell989351d ago

Yes back in 1998 when I was 13. Throughout the years more information has been shown on this subject matters, but go back to early 2000s and information wasn't as prominent. Kojima was ahead of the game

sadraiden352d ago

If it wasn't for the retconning of how FOXDIE works, including clunky scenes with Naomi and Liquid, MGS4 would be a perfect game. There are so many gameplay options. It felt like us PS3 owners got something truly unique and special.
