I dont understand why we went through like 4 or 5 console generations to get the great graphics and gameplay that we have today just to end up with everyone loving games that look like something on an atari 2600.

I mean to each their own i guess but games like this are not the reason i wanted a "next gen" console 6 yrs ago.

I'm not trying to say its a bad game in any way, im sure its fun or whatever but I guess im just into the big AAA titles more than something that looks like it could be from the iOS store.

Your complaint would make sense if we didn't have any of those triple A titles. The market is saturated with them. Video games, like any other form of entertainment, have a wide variety of people they need to appeal to.

Also, graphics =/= Next gen. I have yet to play this game but I'm sure that you're merely looking at the surface instead of diving a little deeper to see what this game is truly about. What does it matter how simple or "pretty" a game is? If it's a great game it serves it's purpose. That's what matters.

did you read my post, i said i wasnt saying its a bad game or anything and that everyone has their own tastes, i understand that. It just seems weird to me that every new generation of consoles or pc's everyone's alway going on about the particle effects or polygon counts etc etc, and what have you, then games like this take the world by storm and everyone is like "yeah this is awsome" when a year ago they were complaining that cod was only 30 fps instead of 60. like the graphics whore that i am.

smashcrashbash4273d ago

Well why can't we just have both? A little simplicity doesn't hurt every now and again right? I don't want them to take over everything like some people seem to want because I like my AAA games but there is nothing wrong with a few calm, less complex games here and there. As long as they don't dominate the market.

Skateboard4273d ago

Whatever man, you know how many high budget shit i have played this gen and haven't played twice and the "taboo" ios games that aren't really "games" i get addicted too and get more fun out of.

I like both, but some high budget titles are $60 manure.

violents4273d ago

I agree to a point, mabey im just being closed minded on the subject but i get bored with games like this after a while, so i tend not to buy them or really get into them at all. It just seems weird in todays world of extreme graphics and photorealism that game like this get the hype that they do. there is the occasional one i like but i agree that they should not dominate the market. I see them more as something to draw the casual gamer into the console/pc world.

Good game is a good game and triple AAA titles could be anything, that term means to me a A+ experience.

@Steve
Really?... Are you really complaining about the visuals of a few games that look retro?... Heck just because a game has awesome graphics doesn't necessarily mean it is a good game, Crysis 2 for example, even with the updated graphics(not including major game changing mods) it still wasnt as good as what Crysis 1 was...
My 2 cents

Hicken4273d ago

Great gameplay exists apart from great graphics. And I suspect your definition of "great graphics" in this regard, is in reference to realistic looking graphics.

Which is fine.

But a game can look visually appealing without being a graphical powerhouse, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a retro look.

What? Did you get done with past generations and decide never to look back? Do you play none of the games from generations ago?

I do. I routinely go back and play older stuff. Galaga is still one of my all-time favorites. It doesn't have to look like I'm piloting Mass Effect ships for me to enjoy it.

Gamers play games. The graphics should be secondary to gameplay. Sound Shapes, by all accounts, has great gameplay, so who cares if it doesn't look like Skyrim?

You really hate indie devs don't You?

These Types of developers don't have gigantic budgets to produce AAA games like Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian etc.

It's a shame that you bash these devs for producing an insanely good game with 16 bit visuals.

And just to torture a bit more, retro city rampage is another game that you probably will hate because of the 16 bit visuals.

I never said it was a bad game, i just dont get into them as much and wondered if i could get some inteligent discusion about why others do. I didn't ask for some douchbag response like your the protector of indie developers or something. Jeez man read all of my comments and then stop being a douche for a minute and then come back to the coversation.

@steverhude

Why do you keep falling back on "I never said it was a bad game?" No one is saying you did. We're calling you out because you said that you're disappointed games like these are "popular" because they aren't "next-gen" games.

You're the only one taking the defensive here in these posts. No one is being a "douchebag" or being rude to you in the slightest. Merely trying to understand your mindset when it comes to this but you obviously can't seem to defend your initial point (which I've stated numerous times).

If it's not the style of game that you're looking for this generation, don't play it. Simple as that. The market is filled with these triple A titles that you seem to be obsessed with. Spend your time there instead of worrying about amazing Indie games that bring people a great experience regardless of the budget it cost to make them.
