Resident Evil 6 Targeted To Be Capcom’s Best-Selling Game Ever

Capcom estimates that Resident Evil 6 could ship 7 million units worldwide, which would make it their best-selling game ever.

7,000,001 more like! I'll be bagging me one, best be super good.

simonrope4279d ago

Prepare to be disappointed, capcom.

Dark114279d ago

did RE5 sales disappointed capcom? .. nope
hell even RE:ORC sales where great and that game was pure shit!
so yeah , i think RE6 will be Capcom’s Best-Selling Game.

user54670074279d ago

I know it probably wont happen but if this game fails in sales AND reviews I would love to see the reaction off Capcom

"Bu..bu bu but I don't understand"

Even though they brought it on themselfs since they've ruined RE and everything it was about.

God please let this game fail and give Capcom a wake up call before next gen starts.

Come on guys if you want to really buy this game at least buy it a few weeks after it launches, this helps you aswell as old RE fans because Capcom will hopefully change for the better and this will benefit all of us long term

matgrowcott4279d ago

I don't get your post at all. Surely if the game fails and it's because Capcom have ruined the series, if the game succeeds it's because Capcom have done something right?

And given that the series has increased in popularity over the last couple of entries (certainly since 4), it can only be said that the series is moving in the right direction?

Unless what you MEANT to say is that you're opinion (and the opinion of those that Capcom would say is in the minority) is more important than that of those who have enjoyed the series in recent years?

ddurand14279d ago

sounds like hes a nostalgia filled old timer that doenst like the direction the franchise is heading in.

I can see his point. I wasnt buying the game new either way though.

Straightupbeastly4279d ago

The series hasnt had a chance to see negative momentum until re5. Re5 sold well because it was the first this gen and had hype from previous installments. If capcom thinks they can make a run and gun cover shooter, slap the resident name on it and be successful, they got something else coming

Rainstorm814279d ago

Yea they did something right.......they put Resident Evil on the box.
Thats why it sells, besides sales mean nothing, CoD breaks its own sales records every year, but does the game get better every year?

matgrowcott4279d ago

@Straightupbeastly @raiinstorm81

So if it fails it was because Capcom abandoned the "real" Resident Evil fans, but if it succeeds it can't be because some people enjoy the new series direction.

Look, buy or don't buy - speak with your money. Don't pretend that Capcom don't have a team of market researchers and people who know exactly what's going to sell. They know exactly what they're doing, and they're easily going to hit the 7 million mark. Most of those people will probably even quite enjoy the game, as well.

user54670074279d ago

So you think if a game sells a ton it's automaticaly good

<sigh>

Why do so many people this gen in gaming think it's all about sales.

RE5 sold because of the brand name and because of the popularity fo RE4. RE6 will probably sell well because it's going for the COD crowd, look at the games trailer and gameplays...big explosions, big guns, lots of shooting, jumping on your back and to the side, a cover system, co-op online crap, quick time events it's terrible.

This isn't the sort of thing we should be encouraging in the gaming industry, developers should try making new IPs for there new ideas not tack them onto already exsisting franchises which don't fit the features they want to add.

@MikeCosgrove

This is an article about sales, mate, and you mentioned sales in your post. We're not talking about the quality of the game, we're talking about this selling 7 million copies. You said you wanted the game to fail in a thread about a game selling 7 million copies.

<pretentious sigh>

So what on earth did you think you were talking in terms of when you said you hoped the game would fail? That it'd sell that many copies but nobody would like it? How is that a failure for Capcom?

I don't have a problem with people not liking the direction the series is going in, but don't mistake your personal opinion with the "END OF THE GAMING INDUSTRY," because it's not. The numbers imply more people have played Resident Evil 4 - 5 than the originals and Capcom's actions back that up. It's as simple as that. If there was any chance going back to the old style would retain all but a dedicated few of that group, they'd have done it.

They're not sitting on a gold mine and saying "we just won't bother," they're giving people what they want. Just not people like you.

VanillaBear4279d ago

Well Said Mike

People keep complaining about Capcom yet buy their games if we all stuck together we could change Capcoms outlook on the gaming industry. Together in groups we are strong, look at the ME3 ending campaign...imagine what we could do together with Capcom.

Straightupbeastly4279d ago

Keep dreaming capcom because this game does not appeal to real resident fans. If u don't believe me check the preorders charts. RE6 not even in the top 25

Moby-Royale4279d ago (Edited 4279d ago )

Considering the fact that five is the best selling it would make sense that this would do better. In terms of sales that is.

There haven't been four RE games this gen unlike most popular franchises, so they have that going for them.

But what doesn't add up is the presumption that the name "Resident Evil" holds as much merit as it once did.

Case and point: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. If that doesn't hurt your brand I don't know what would. Game *design wise six seems to have a lot in common with 'coon city, which is harmful to the brand. And we all know why it is harmful.

Sooooo if these two games are pretty simular gameplay wise (though I AM assuming that RE 6 will be better made) and 'coon flopped.... I'm just not sure that I'd be that confident if I was in their shoes...

There Will Never Be Another Resident Evil 6 (And That Sucks)

A rough gem that may never get the proper treatment it deserves.

Terry_B398d ago

^^ I don't want what the author was smoking.

-Foxtrot398d ago

It’s this thing where after enough time people start coming out to defend bad games for some strange reason

I mean hey if you liked it good for you but it was a f****** awful RE game.

Capcom are finally back on track and now people are crying about their shitty mistakes? No thanks.

RpgSama396d ago

I'd take a full blown remake of RE6 based around a GREATLY expanded Leon part and make it even more horror.

That might be something I would be interested in, do not care about any of the other parts of that game.

MadLad396d ago

I couldn't even get through the demo.
Years later I bought it for $3 for PC. I played about 5 minutes into it and uninstalled it.

babadivad396d ago (Edited 396d ago )

RE6 was better than 5. RE6 just took the series to the conclusion that started with 4.

RE4 was the inaugural title in the action game trilogy.

RE9 will be the likely end of the first person psychological thriller trilogy.

They'll switch it up for RE10 or more likely titled RE-X.

hotnickles396d ago

5 is vastly better than 6 imo

TheEnigma313396d ago

RE5 is way better than 6. Stop lying to yourself

FallenAngel1984398d ago (Edited 398d ago )

“But all this is solely with respect to how fans felt back in 2013 when Resident Evil 6 had just been released. The game resulted in the series getting indefinitely killed off until 5 years later when we got Resident Evil 7 and balance was restored yet again. ”

1.) Resident Evil 6 came out in 2012, not 2013

2.) A series getting killed off means no titles at all released in a time period. Silent Hill, Dead Space, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve & Siren fans would love to see how you can say RE was on the same level of dormancy. In that 5 year time period we had a number of remasters that kept the series alive and kicking. RE1 02ms remaster even broke sales records during the period between RE6 and RE7.

3. Way to disrespect Resident Evil: Revelations 2. It was released during that RE6-RE7 period. It along with its predecessor were mainline titles that kept the horror roots of the series alive in comparison to RE5 and RE6. RE: R1 in particular even introduced the ability to walk and shoot into the series, a feature we can all be grateful for that in modern RE titles. The director RE: R1 later went on to direct RE7 and the director of RE: R2 later went to to direct the RE2 & RE4 remakes.

Immagaiden398d ago (Edited 398d ago )

“Resident Evil 6 is often maligned as the worst entry in the Resident Evil series and is cited as the cause behind the long death of the franchise.”

Titles in the Resident Evil series such as Survivor, Gaiden, Dead Aim, Outbreak, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps, & Resistance we’re received far worse than RE6.

And death of the franchise?

RE6 was still one of the most commercially successful games in the series, guaranteeing the franchise’s future. Compare how underwhelming sales of Dead Space 3, Silent Hill: Downpour. Alone in the Dark: Illumination, Dino Crisis 3, Fatal Frame: Maiden in Black Water, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2, and Metroid: Other M which caused their respective series to go into a long period of dormancy without any rereleases to even keep activity up.

RE however still had a significant number of titles released and rereleased after RE6. Not only that but development for RE7 started a short time after its predecessor came out, meaning there was never a development time that the series could be considered dead. There hasn’t been a single year that Capcom stopped either developing, releasing, or rereleasing Resident Evil games. Let’s not act like the 5 year period between RE6 and RE7 is such a longer time compared to the 4 year period between RE4 and RE5 as well as RE7 and RE8. We can pretty much expect RE9 in either 2025 or 2026, and you can be certain that Capcom will still release other RE tiles leading up to it

TheEnigma313397d ago (Edited 397d ago )

Man go some where with this. Only a few like this game. Why would they remake a garbage game no one likes risking money because it won't sell? RE 6 is dumpster drippings, sorry.

MIDGETonSTILTS17396d ago

It wasn’t that good, even if you enjoyed it like me.
