Women in Games: Violent Contradictions

Robert Settle would like to see more violence against women in video games. Now he has got that controversial statement out of the way let him try and explain why.

Robert apologises now for anyone who finds the title (or any of the content) of this article offensive. This article is not intended as an attack on women rather as satire, pointing out the contradictions that we make when discussing the portrayal of women in gaming and the violence against women in video games.

Nice article! Good to see something fresh like this.

lol it is becoming increasingly clear that this author doesn't have a flying clue about women, or what equality really means. Violence against women is an issue because women are not equal to men - they are by far more at risk, fragile and requiring of protection. You need to realize when two things aren't equal that they not be treated equally - that's just common sense.

Also, women are not visual creatures - they aren't stiumlated visually the way men are. I don't know how this dumb author is an adult and hasn't realized this obvious fact yet, but women aren't interested in looking at men the same way men are at looking at women. No, not a single woman bought Uncharted because they wanted to check out Nathan Drake. How dumb is this author? lmao seriously.

People like you are the reason domestic violence is still a huge problem and has no sign of improving.

I Have shocking news for you. Men are victims of domestic violence and women are perpetrators of domestic violence (and vice versa). If fact, in the UK, more than 40% of DV victims are male. A quick google search would have informed you of that, but unfortunately you've been tricked by the rabid feminists.

Well Gaming101 I replied to your comments on my blog post directly on there with a pretty in-depth response so if you're interested you can find it there.

Your entire comment though is a sexist generalisation. And thank you @jessupj for pointing out that particular statistic. It's not something I picked out in my article.

Stats-wise I was mainly concentrating on pointing out how common rape unfortunately seems to be nowadays and the fact that we should be looking to bring more awareness to it. But the point you make jessup is a good one, I did know that the percentage of DV victims being male was pretty high but I had no idea it was that high.

Cheers Proto. Came up with the idea after chatting with a couple of people whilst doing my article last week. I knew there had been a lot of articles specifically about the tomb raider 'rape' but thought this would be a bit of a spin on the topic.

Equal rights equal butt kicking for all. Male or females it don't matter. I mean Snake use to get his a** tossed around by The Boss all the way until the end of MGS3. When you have to fight her at the end its literally self defense as she even states if you don't win she's bombing everyone there. And who could forget the pounding Android 18 gave Vegeta in Dragonball Z. She broke his arm then smacked him in the face with his son. Women can be monsters when they want.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast14d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22914d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko14d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
