CryEngine 3 comes close to CG quality graphics with the works of Puppy and Mark Ranson

DSOGaming writes: "Normally, we’d include these screenshots in our weekly CryEngine 3 gallery but they’re so hot that we felt the need to share them with you as soon as possible. A lot of gamers think that CryEngine 3 is inferior to CryEngine 2 (because Crysis 1 looks better than Crysis 2), however CryEngine 3 can achieve CG quality graphics as can be seen by the works of modder Puppy and 3D artist Mark Ranson. We really hope that next-generation games will look this good and if you thought that Project CARS' car models looked phenomenal, wait until you see the one created by Ranson. Enjoy!"

some one should make a movie using this engine, have crytek use it to show how powerful this engine can be or something

Marz4289d ago

they should make a game that shows how powerful this engine can be...

I think even GT5 on PS3 has more realistic lighting this.
It lacked self-shadows (see rear spoiler and side mirrors) and the tail lights look hideous.
Come on Cry Engine 3, I hope you can do better than that.

BUT I really liked the water and dirt particles on it. Looked pretty awesome.

SilentNegotiator4289d ago (Edited 4289d ago )

HAHAHAHAHAHA- Don't be ridiculous, Marz. lol

But seriously.
When will people learn that the engine doesn't make 3d models through magic? Anyone can take a fairly recent engine, put some high res models in it, and run it "real time" on Jesus Christ's $10,000 supercomputer, like all of the "next gen" engine demonstrations we've been seeing lately.

Real impressiveness comes from an engine's ability to be efficient.

Er, what CG movies have these folk been watching? I see jaggies all over the place and horrible bloom lighting, not to mention these are very closed in sets with not much else being rendered, all the horse power is going straight to the few objects rendered on screen.

Can we make headlines like this illegal or punishable by a kick to the nuts for spreading misinformation and further fueling petty fanboy wars and what not? please?!

john24289d ago

And that's because everything is rendered in real-time. I bet that you also failed to read the title as it states that those screens come 'close' to CG quality. Downsampling is possible with CryEngine 3 so they could capture some pullshots without jaggies but then again, you'd complain about the screenshots being bullshots.

bostoner4289d ago

Where does it say these are rendered in real time? I'm not disagreeing with you but I don't know where your reading this information.

annus4289d ago

@bostoner

What? The whole point of this is that it isn't pre-rendered. If it was, it would just be 'cgi'. And I'm not sure what sort of disability would be required to render screenshots without anti-aliasing if it wasn't in game (I don't understand it even in in-game), but they shouldn't be working with the hardware if they don't know to turn on AA while rendering.

Also it's CryEngine, why wouldn't it be real time?

Patriots_Pride4289d ago

A Halo movie using this engine would be boss!!!

Welshy4289d ago

i said it in an earlier Crytek article, and i'll say it again.

When they build a fun game to PLAY around those graphics, then i will take them seriously.

After 30 minutes the graphics are just there and dont stand out anymore while playing, about 3 hours into Crysis 2 i thought i was going to die of boredom.

At the very least outsource your gameplay so we can actually enjoy the surroundings!

Patriots_Pride4289d ago

Have to agree with you...Crises 2 was burty but I turned the game off after 2 hours.

Crytek has the engine but the lack talent when it comes to making a game.

MS should just buy them out.

Welshy4289d ago

MS should definitely not buy them, not because they're not worth buying, but because of MS track record with in house studios.

I have all 3 platforms, so no fanboyism here, but MS don't know how to run their studios.

RARE being a prime example.

beerkeg4289d ago

The Crysis games are excellent, I'm sorry you didn't like them. Crysis 2 wasn't as great as the first games but it was still a very enjoyable and good looking game.

starchild4289d ago

Really? I had a lot of fun with Crysis 2.

Dazel4289d ago

Crysis 2 was a let down but Cryengine 3 can be used just like Unreal tech, who knows what other devs will come up with next gen.

BIGBOSS084288d ago

THIS! crysis 2 was boring as hell and the graphics were pretty nice but not that special.

just amazing and i hope to see this in action soon

TronEOL4289d ago (Edited 4289d ago )

I really want to say something about those car pictures, but I'll just keep quiet on that one. But I can say those pictures the frog and weird monster-person look fantastic. I'm not sure if we need video games to look like that, but I sure as hell would want it.

CE5 has a higher framerate but CE3 looks better at times...

I guess this is because CE5 is just supposed to be a Cryengine for VR and not much more

Imortus_san2942d ago

CE3 looks much better, more defenition and more vibrant colors.
