EA dates Battlefield 4 beta

EA has sent out an official press release with more information about the Battlefield 4 beta, including a date, commentary about how the two IPs are connected, and more.

Wrong, the BF3 Beta weeks before the actual game's release. Expect a 2013 release since we'll be seeing MOH 3 in 2014.

Yeah, EA seems committed to a yearly BF/MOH cycle. I would be very surprised if we don't see BF4 next winter.

Also, this "beta" will likely be less about refining the game and more about marketing. If it basically amounts to an exclusive demo, there's no reason why they can't launch it right before releasing the game.

Honestly, I agree with the guy above me. BAD idea, considering that engine for BFBC2 is 10x better than the engine that was with the console versions that looks terrible, is way too clunky, and is just all around worse.

Well I am expecting BF 4 Q4 2013. Beta builds are done 1-2 months max before game is released. Fall 2013 means Winter 2013 at latest for Battlefield 4 launch.

Gotta go pre-order Medal of Honor now. I believe they will use Frostbite 2.5 to make Battlefield 4 on Next-gen consoles as a launch game with alot of big bang appeal to gamers.

I think they will use Bad Company 3 for 2015 as a game in the middle or throw it in 2014 somewhere.

This is against almost everything that DICE said. I remember that they said that BF4 will NOT come on current gen consoles. Now, there is an argument that perhaps BF4 could be a launch title for the next-gen consoles but I HIGHLY doubt that as I think EA would love to cash in the huge install base of both PS3 and XBOX360.

Secondly, I also remember DICE saying that they hated doing the whole DEMO thing and that they will not do this again as putting out demos online creates more problem as people start complaining about an incomplete project (Even though I believe that BF3 was in fact incomplete even after the launch) (Heck it took them 3 months to fix simple VOIP problem on PS3).

But I guess EA wants to make as much money as possible by handing out early access BETA codes (! 2 days anyone!?)

DICE are now officially EA's bitch and I am afraid that they are going to ruin the BF series only to compete with another crappy title namely Call of Duty.

Well actually they did this last time too, Medal of Honor limited edition came with BF3 access..

And even though the game only sold 1.5 million in it's first five days, a number most game companies would love to have, EA stated they promoted it heavy..

-so they were hoping for more like 3 to 4 million in sales..

So you can't really blame them for trying everything they can to push the game, that's what I expect from EA..

They made a big blunder by giving MoH owners only a day or two early access to the beta.

That, and the beta itself was pretty bad even by beta standards.

Given the past precedent, buying the new MoH just for BF4 beta doesn't seem like an enticing offer.

EA has just become a mirror of Activision now. Dice is similar to IW, while DangerClose is similar to TreyArch. Each takes a turn plopping out a military shooter with scheduled DLC.

What they need to do is make Medal of Honor with casual friendly controls, and let MOH take on COD. Battlefield should be its own game in its own genre, a true battlefield game, try to be a true military shooter.

I tried a bit of the MOH game before this one at a friends doing the mission where you lazer target a bunch of tanks but didnt enjoy it much, took way too long.

Id love to see MOH go back to WW2 or something i think people would be ready for a decent trip back to the pacific or something especially with better AI for guerrilla warfare would be awesome.

I want to try out the first MOH game this gen where you parachuted down for the SP, really fresh and interesting idea.

Bring back the massive firefights from WW2 in last gens games. Really want another game like that.

And how about BF BC3 with fully destructible buildings again? Or the future spin off? Seems too soon for a BF4.

Alternating between BF/MoH is more or less the same as activision alternating between MW/BO. Considering all the flack Activision gets for milking their shooters, EA is guilty of the same thing.

Even so, there is a difference between a publisher releasing multiple shooter titles and a publisher releasing the exact same franchise each and every year for the past 6 years. 2007-2012 a COD game has released every year. The titles you mentioned are not all BF titles. Activision is going to cause franchise fatigue just like guitar hero. Milk the same franchise each and every year. You can't really compare BF and MOH to BO and Modern Warfare because they are both Call of Duty titles. BF and MOH are totally seperate franchises

BF and MoH are separate franchises but the latest iterations of MoH have been very similar to the BF franchise. MoH 2010's MP was made by DICE and was basically a dumbed down BF game. Warfighter isn't made by DICE but it's running on Frostbite 2 and from what we've seen so far, once again looks very similar to BF.

I'll agree that the MW/BO games have more in common with each other than BF/MoH but it is obvious that EA is trying to mimic Activision's strategy of pushing out annual military shooters.

I personally play all of these franchises so I'm actually happy to hear more titles coming. I just think Activision gets an unfair amount of hate while their biggest competitor is copying their blueprint.

I haven't forgiven EA/DICE for the "exclusive access" to the Battlefield 3 beta that came with Medal Of Honor. It ended up being a 48 hour headstart before EVERYBODY got access to the beta. That's NOT exclusive access, EA/DICE!

That said, I'll probably buy Medal Of Honor: Warfighter anyway, but I won't keep my disc just for the sake of playing the beta whenever it decides to come out.

F*** that, Battlefield 3 just came out last year. I've been playing BF1942 and BF2 for years and years before Bad Company came out, and it was great, gave you time to fully appreciate the game. The community for BF2 is still huge after all this time. The gap between BF2 and BF3 made the final product worth the wait; another core sequel this soon just seems like a waste.

Best Campaign I've ever played for a FPS. My avatar picture is still of the game to this day. Why? Because the game was friggin epic! It got 4 million sales so don't be bashing on it. People hated on the game for the dumbest reasons. I loved every minute of it. Single player is where it's at for Medal of Honor. Battlefield 3's campaign was pretty good, can't wait for BF4's single player. But yeah BF3's multiplayer was epic. Don't compare MoH and BF's multiplayer. Doesn't work out.

The single-player was damn impressive.

It had its slow bits, but some of the set-pieces were damn good.

Seriously, the part where you and your squad are huddled in the old hut - the walls slowly being blown away as the enemy storms from the hill - and you trying to hold out for air support.

One of the best moments in shooters I've seen.
