Has the current generation gone on too long?

The Xbox 360 turns seven in a few months, and the PlayStation 3 six. With such an unprecedented age, old hardware and no clear successors, it begs the question: has the current generation gone on too long?

Not at all. More and more games are using multiple DVDs these days though. The DVD is an ancient storage medium causing devs who don't want to pay for multiple disc to cut content from games in order to squeeze it onto one DVD making the Blu-Ray version suffer. Other than that I don't see any problems with current gen gaming.

Its gone on too long obviously. New hardware gets people excited, new hardware brings out new software.

Also, how many games have been released this generation? hundreds? thousands? I think I own 7 Xbox 360 games that came on more than one disk. Considering every generation since the PlayStation 1 launched has had games on multiple disks, I don't think its hampered the generation at all.

When you look at games like Skyrim, and see such a complete game and when its done right, disks don't matter.

What alot of people just can't seem to grasp,
Is that the world crisis has been kicking everyone's ass....not just consumers, but retail, to developers, to publishers, to the console makers themselves. So many devs and publishers have been going bankrupt and shuttered in record numbers this gen.
New tech, with new next gen graphics costs more $....significantly. If you want more of them to go out of business sure....bring on new consoles in a worldwide crisis and recession.

The bottom line, I don't want to see that, So if they need 2 or 3 more years to shore up their profits to become more healthy financially, then, I say, GIVE IT TO THEM.

In the meantime, I'll just have to make due with THE LAST OF US, BEYOND 2 SOULS and WATCH DOGS.
Woe is me. 0_0

Oh, Strongman. You one bubble bastard. You so crazy.

So many games use more than one disc. Like almost 10% of them. Okay, maybe not that many.

The vast majority f games won't use more than a disc this generation. Let's be honest. Blu-ray was just Sony pimpin' it's fans. That's why they were looking at dropping it in the PS4.

What...disagrees? What'd I say.

BluRay version suffers? What sony exclusives has used the almighty bluray to its fullest? Twisted Metal? Starhawk? Infamous? Playstation All Stars? Resistance? Killzone? Uncharted? These last 3 games were simple point A to point B games.

How about GT5? The one game that really should of used the extra storage but only had about 20% of cars that were ps3 worthy. Everything else was ps2 worthy.

Only exclusive's and games that I can think of that use the bluray are games that have TONS of cutscenes.

Tell me why didn't Sony release a game as BIG as Skyrim or GTA4 and use the full power of the bluray?

Well heres to the Wii U coming with a free CAT scan! Cuz you need it. No seriously, you need to have that melon checked out, I don't think every thing is working up there the way that it should.

For MIcrosoft it has. They tend to stop supporting old hardware once new hardware is released. We will see how shady they are next year...

hellvaguy4298d ago

MS had a nasty legal battle (and well documented if u google it) with Nvidea which is why they had to end support soon. However they did keep the Xbox 1 online networks up and running for like 4 years after the 360 was released.

Gridloc4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Really. No new games because of nvidia. Google that... First party is nearly non existent now ( besides kinect and arcade of summer ) oh yeah gears, halo and forza. We'll see if third party continues support (doubtfull). First party will be kinect only. Six months tops.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC3h ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Friendlygamer4h ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya1h ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde1h ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me
