This is nothing amazing lol. My 4 year old laptop is just as slim, comes with a screen and is more powerful than the PS3 ;-) Plays most games in 1080p(its equipped with a GTX 260m).

So while Sony just managed to shrink the PS3 down to Size, they are still lagging behind in terms of power.

@decrypt I totally care lol...I bought myself an Asus G73SW-3DE (the 3D model) notebook and it BLOWS away anything that the PS3 and 360 can dish out. I bought Alan Wake on Steam today and the graphics are insane! Don't get me wrong, I'm a console gamer and LOVE my systems, but when it comes to sheer power and capabilities, my PC is a beast!

I see a number of people saying (on other websites) that they want the Backwards compatibility and that this one might answer to all those calls but I highly doubt that. I think GAIKAI is the answer to everything related to backward compatibility. All our PSN purchases, all the PS3 games that we own could very well be moved to the cloud so we'll all be able to play PS3 games on PS4. But, this will of course suck for those who don't have access to high speed broadband. Mind you that in a number of countries 1mb-4mb connection is considered to be "broadband".

Looks almost as tiny as the ps2 slim. The PS3 Slim was basically just an "in-between" update it looks like... this one is the real deal. Complete with the usual way to load the disc from the top.

No, more than likely the 16GB is built in and the user will be able to expand on that with a HHD.

The 16gb is probably built in. HDDs are very cheap and it wouldn't cost much to upgrade the memory to what you want it. Also, you can take the HDD out of your old PS3 and place it in new ones. Thats what i did when I replaced my phat ps3 with a slim.

To phase out older more expensive to manufacture units, and use new better/more efficient components that probably run cooler by not requiring as much electricity to operate.

Something i would hope as a general rule, in regards to newer electronics is actively pursued by every industry, within reason.

I won't be surprised if the launch 720 and ps4 is smaller than the 360 and ps3 at launch, they should be down to 22 or 28 nanometer chips by then.

If they opt to use the same finish as the last PS2 slim, I think it'd look a lot nicer.

On the current photo, the two different materials just don't mesh well together.

Other than that, nice to know they're still finding ways to cut it down in size for consumers, old & new.

My problem with this slim PS3 is that it doesn't really improve on the existing ones. I mean, I know its probably more energy efficient and stuff like that. But I mean more USB's or anything else. I know we still don't have anything concrete yet. But when 360S came out, it had increased USBS's and just looked better overall.
This ps3 just looks worse than the previous ones. Which I never trusted the first PS3 slim model. My friend bought one and barely plays it and crapped out a year later with the YLOD.
I'm still using the original fat 60 PS3 (upgraded with a 500 GIG HD) and last about 5 years before it crapped out as well.

I think no matter how technology progresses there will always be a need for a physical format. Cloud gaming wont catch on because you Don't own a physical product, you're actually just paying to use a service. People prefer to own physical media as it has resale value and protects against loss of data and so on...... Personally it's nice to know I have a PS3 slim under my TV and not a just a controller and a subscription to ONLIVE cloud gaming service.
