Metal Gear Solid 4 Gets Trophy Support; New Announcements Coming at August Event

Metal Gear Solid 4 will get a Trophy patch, according to an interview with Hideo Kojima in this week's Famitsu. The magazine does not reveal a date for the patch, but MGS4 is scheduled to receive a budget release in in August, so the timing could coincide with that.

OMG after all that waiting it's finally happening!! Wonder what took them so dam long.

I hope there's a surprise hidden trophy (the plat) that hints MGS5. Like "The end...or is it?" Four years of waiting though there has to be more to this surprise.

Nitrowolf24299d ago

You know what, it's time they announce the director cut version of MGS4. MGS4: Substance :P

victorGma214299d ago

Oh god I can't believe this is happening! I am really happy to see this!

I hope the same thing will happen with Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Gaming1014299d ago

LOL SERIOUSLY???
Talk about 4 years too late, I mean holy crap, it's going to be another 4 years at least till we even see Metal Gear 5, most people have probably sold their copies of MGS4 by now given its only 8 bucks used most places.
All I can say is, luckily there will be no online trophies as that went offline already, seriously, the online game was only being played 4 years later by the biggest fanatics on the planet, does anyone really want to mix it up with those weirdos? lol didn't think so

guitarded774299d ago (Edited 4299d ago )

I WANT PROOF!!!!

If I get my hopes up and this is a troll, I will hunt him down and do unspeakable things.

I have serious doubts... why stop support for MGO and then give a trophy patch? Why after all this time? I'm not complaining, I just don't trust a no name site with no proof.

But with such fine writing as this... "There will be some sort of announcement at the this event, Kojima reveals in the interview.", how can I not believe them.

Another quote:
"we're not totally sure of the source for this particular report, but we should have confirmation later in the day."

I'm calling fake here.

blitz06234299d ago

Finally, a good reason to play this game again

jimbobwahey4299d ago

@Gaming101

A good game is a good game, regardless of when it was released. What's wrong with adding trophies to a game that a lot of people enjoyed? For some it will be a nice excuse to replay the game again.

yewles14299d ago

@Nitrowolf2

MGS: Integral
MGS2: Substance
MGS3: Subsistance
And possibly...
MGS4: Sustenance???

aaron58294299d ago

Ahhh..... more reason to complete it for the 30th time !

Hey ! At least I dont have to hunt down all frogs in 1 playthrough ! :)

InactiveUser4299d ago

Nice!

Now give us trophies for:
Resistance: Fall of Man
The Orange Box
Civilization: Revolution
Motorstorm 1
Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD and QFB
Folklore
Heavenly Sword

and I'll be even happier.

Electroshocked4299d ago

@EeJLP And Assassin's Creed, I mean, it's so frustrating that the XBOX got achievements for it and the PS3 didn't get trophies for it.

MEGATON! most wanted trophies since the beginning! I still have my copy too! don't wanna sell it EVER!

morganfell4299d ago (Edited 4299d ago )

The best title I ever played. I have stated it numerous times here over the years and am not just jumping on the excitement bandwagon. For me personally, the game has no equal. It is storytelling tour de force and a graphical powerhouse to this day. It is game making with a laserlike focus which only a few individuals can produce.

Whether or not this story is true, and it actually appears to be, MGS4 is always worth another playthrough.

nukeitall4299d ago

First of all, does anyone really care after 4-years?

Secondly, MGO was just shut down and now they re-release MGS4? Although they aren't necessarily related, it just seems odd.

I have a feeling this is false.

JoySticksFTW4299d ago

MGS4 may be my greatest gaming experience ever (next to FFVI - go Kefka go!)

And the truly amazing thing is it may not even be the best game in the series.

MGS3's great balance of tight gameplay, great story-telling / soundtrack, and awesome characters (Young Ocelot!) may take that honor.

But MGS4 succeeded in tying up series loose ends and bringing a proper close to Snake's career.

And the ending still gets me every time.

Yes, Big Boss. This IS good. :(

InactiveUser4299d ago

Agreed on Assassin's Creed. I missed that, because I have it on the Revelations disk. I missed CoD4 trophies also.. Those ~10 should cover all the early trophyless games that I'd be willing to go back to plat.

jeseth4299d ago

Wow, I'm so excited. Not that trophies make a game but trophies/achievements are like a way that you get to track and document your gaming "career", lol.

I wish there was a universal system in place across all platforms dating back to NES ... oh the places we've been! I would love to look back and see all the games I've played, completed, etc.

Psyched for MGS Trophies!

ALLWRONG4299d ago

Know why they did this right? It's a template for when they add Achievements.

dantesparda4299d ago

HOLY FVCKING SH!T!!! i never thought this day would come. THANK YOU KONAMI/KOJIMA, its about f-ing time. But i love ya's for it.

Bur what about MGO? Why dont these companies just patch in p2p into their games when they wanna shut off their servers, or at the very least let us rent servers. Heck, they can actually make some money that way. Rather than just let the online portion of their games just die.

p.s. hey Konami, how about while you're at it, do something about the loading ins from chapter to chapter

sikbeta4299d ago

Finally!

Gold Trophy: Complete Game Big Boss Mode
Platinum: Earn ALL Medals

!

I'm Ready! :D

guitarded774299d ago

12 hours since the story was posted and no proof. All we have is a website saying they have conformation, with no proof/link to said confirmation. Please don't drink the Kool-Aid... I want this to be true as much as the rest of you, but instead of having a victory party with no proof, we should be hounding this website for proof and hounding Konami for a statement. If someone has real evidence of this happening, please post a link... it will make me happy, and I'll quit pi$$ing on everyone's parade.

Gaming1014299d ago

Looks like I need to repeat myself for the retarded - the game is 4 years old, people have been selling their copies within that period of time because they've played it a hundred times over and have received no trophy support to continue playing the same story over and over. This would not have taken very long for a small team to patch the game with trophies, and for it to take 4 years for anyone to do anything about it is far too late. If you sold your copy you're definitely not going back and buying it again unless you're the biggest trophy whore ever. The only people with the game still on their shelf and still willing to play through it a bunch more times to get all the trophies are people with way too much free time on their hands IMO.

jadenkorri4298d ago

yes and the 360 version of metal gear solid 4 subsistence will be released. You know its coming, and no way would they release on 360 with achievements and no ps3 trophies, the ps3fanboy outcry would be hilarious.

DrJones4298d ago

Took their sweet ass time.

darthv724298d ago

and that price is whatever gamestop thinks people will pay for a used copy again just to get the trophies.

No doubt they adjust their prices on used games based on demand. It would not surprise me if they upped the cost by 20-50% in light of this news. Cause they know people who traded in will be back to get a copy.

Glad i still have mine.

guitarded774298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

I will now eat my words.... Konami just confirmed via Facebook. I was right to be cautious with no source, but now that Konami has said it, I can be just as happy as the rest of you.

@ darth72

Yeah, screw GameStop... Amazon has it new for less than $18 right now. I just told my best friend to mail me back my copy I let him borrow. He moved out of state last week and it was boxed up for the move.

metsgaming4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

i never got around to a second play through and always wanted to but never could do it, now i think i can and maybe go for a third.

jadenkorri4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

why would they patch a game 4 years later with trophys, it should of been done day 1 that trophies started. This is being done cause a 360 version of some sort is coming. Konami is not a exclusive dev to sony. Id be shocked if this update came out of the pure heart of konami, but don't be surprised to see a substance MGS4 for 360.

Diver4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

this is for all the peeps like guitarded. no you didn't want this to be true as much as the rest of us.

no guitarded you were not. adriansang isn't kotaku. they normally are on the money. was it really necessary to rail for 2 different posts?

I gave up waiting on this back around the end of 2008. I don't even have a PS3 anymore, let alone MGS4.

MysticStrummer4299d ago

Highly questionable decision making.

Megaton4299d ago

Wasn't my choice, two YLODs within 2 years.

Snookies124299d ago

@Megaton - Lol, you must be REALLY unlucky if two PS3s died on you. I still have a 60 gig BC PS3. It works like a charm even to this day.

Megaton4299d ago

Must be. The only two consoles I've ever owned that have broken were a launch PS2 and two PS3s. The first YLOD happened within days of exactly 1 year after I bought it. After Sony "repaired" it, it happened again after 9 months. 80gb phat.

InactiveUser4299d ago

I had 4 or 5 YLODs on 60GB fattys, all suspiciously about 13 months apart, but still have a PS3. Finally went with a ~2500 series and haven't had any issues yet. I'll very likely get a 4000 series if it's smaller, more energy efficient (pretty much a given), and has wireless N.

WildArmed4299d ago (Edited 4299d ago )

Haha, tbh I had given up hope too.

Funny how they did this right after killing MGO.

Will be popping this in.. after after I finish the MGS collection. needa finish MGS2.

Jazz41084299d ago

I had a fat ps3 60gig die with ylod as well. The fat models had quite a high failure rate and why sony moved to a new model with less on it quickly. I can't think of anything much worse then people who got the second job like son told them too just to have it die right outside of warranty and still charged to fix it like it was there fault. Remebmeber all the faulty ps2s as well. If anything its a risk to buy a new console from sony or ms at launch. Ms with rrod and sony with faulty ps2 drives and faulty ps3s. Good thing both companies stoood behind there product and fixed them for free. Oh wait a minute that's was only ms.

Probably more, they might put a 100% stealth run.
Then do a collectibles run.

MGS4 have sold something like 6 million copies already what do u mean boost in sales the only PS3 exclusive with more is GT5 I am sure all the fans get it already.

moparful994299d ago

I would buy it again, especially if they include some bonuses.. This game is in my top 3 all time easily..
1. Super Mario World (snes)
2. God of War (all of em)
3. MGS4 (sublime)

Can't wait for this! Time for another playthrough when it comes out.

vickers5004299d ago

Glad I waited to replay this instead of replaying it without trophies, now it will feel like a brand new game.

Since they're adding trophies, they should add a f*cking *INSTALL ALL* option, so I don't have to spend 30 minutes or however long it took between chapters. Even if it's 30-50gb, I don't care, I have a 500gb hard drive.

sehnsucht4299d ago

Exactly! (On both points)

I wouldn't mind installing the whole thing, but I don't think that's going to happen. Sony only allowed RAGE to install about 8GB (allegedly) when John Carmack wanted significantly more (probably).

MariaHelFutura4298d ago

I actually love the install screen. I could watch Snake smoke all day.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro40d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7240d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2340d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Hideo Kojima laments that Metal Gear Solid 4's digital battlefield 'is no longer science fiction'

Game creator Hideo Kojima is and probably will always be best-known for his creation and stewardship of the Metal Gear series at Konami, which since his departure has been more-or-less on permanent hiatus (don't mention Survive). In his almost three decades these games evolved to the point where they predicted certain problems of the information age (MGS 2), took aim at contemporary topics like Guantanamo Bay (MGS: Ground Zeroes), and ended on a profound sense of sadness about our species' inability to break the cycles of global conflict (MGS V).

It's not clear what sparked this reflection, but Kojima's been thinking about Metal Gear Solid 4, an entry that was (and unfortunately still remains) a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In that entry the player controls an aged Solid Snake in the year 2014, caught up in a civil war being fought between Private Military Companies (PMCs).

Dirty_Lemons351d ago

That was a great fucking game/ movie.

DarXyde351d ago

To this day, it's one of those games where I refuse to skip the cutscenes, no matter how many playthroughs I've done.

But if you ask me...MGS2 was bloody prophetic and has aged like fine wine. That game was blasted as the weakest entry, and yet it's so enduring. I replayed it some time last year and it was remarkable.

sadraiden351d ago

Heed not the lamentations of people that say that MGS2 is bad because of the Snake/Raiden bait and switch. Every MGS game has its own merits, and while most people consider 3 to be the best, they all shine equally in my opinion.

porkChop351d ago

@sad

I would generally agree but with the exception of MGSV. It had truly excellent gameplay/combat, but dull and largely empty open world(s), and a narrative that is literally only half finished.

I really wish Kojima hadn't tried to go open world with MGS. It just wasn't right for the series. But I get it. He didn't want to make MG anymore but he wasn't allowed to make anything else. So he had to experiment within that franchise. Still, it was the wrong direction.

Santouryuu350d ago

I have been thinking about this a lot, MGS2 being the weakest and getting blasted.
My conclusion, for some years now, it's my favorite game of the series.
Going from MGS1 to MGS2 was such a big leap, in graphics, mechanics, etc.
And now it's even more relevant for being 'bloody prophetic' as you stated.

Maybe dust of my vita and play it again...

porkChop351d ago

It's a shame we never got a remaster of MGS4. The original game only rendered at 1024x768, and it ran anywhere from like 20fps to 60fps depending on the area. A remaster could have very easily cleaned up the visuals and performance. It's such a great game. I just want to play it again but in its best possible state.

MIDGETonSTILTS17351d ago

I agree, but they did all sorts of tricks to make use of the ps3’s cell processor….they’d probably have to rebuild the game in order to make it run on another machine. And, if that involves remaking those cutscenes somehow, then itll never happen, unfortunately.

porkChop350d ago

Nah. There have been plenty of remasters of PS3 games and they've turned out fine. It can be done.

PitbullMonster350d ago

Ah a man of culture. Duty calls

cell989351d ago

He was always ahead with this series. MSG1 taught me about the importance of passing on our genes into future generations but in a responsible way, for they are bound to what we experienced in our lifetime. Sons of liberty taught me about global control and simulation runs to test society in a grand scale, the importance and dangers of control of information. MGS3 taught me about patriotism and how that can blind you into doing things you never would have otherwise, all for the sake of politicians who only see you as another pawn in their grand scheme of things. MSG4 taught me war is inevitable and always orchestrated because it's great for the economy. Soon simulation systems will start dictating who goes to war and why, all run through proxies. Privatization of military company are already here. We already started to see how a small group of elites dictates everything that happens. Nothing is done, nothing happens without strings being pulled.

Eidolon351d ago

You learned all this from MGS?

Tody_ZA351d ago

All that was literally the themes and core story of each game, so not surprising he learned that from MGS. Metal Gear Solid 2 in particular is so relevant today, it was more than a decade ahead of its time and a work of genius. Kojima saw what the digital future was going to become when it was in its infancy. Even MGS 5 despite being unfinished and less of a traditional Metal Gear Solid game with regards to story, had a fair bit to say about language and control over it that is relevant today.

It's a highly acclaimed series for a reason, and one of my favourite.

Eidolon351d ago

I've watched my brother play the MGS games, but I only beat MGS1 myself on the PSP in 2014, and MGSV in 2016. I took the themes and plots as lore, tbh.. trying to piece together the story of MGS rather than relating them to our current times.

Tody_ZA351d ago

It's definitely social commentary, Eidolon. You should read the "themes and analysis" section of the Wikipedia page for MGS2: Sons of Liberty for a start! Game was heavy on this.

Eidolon351d ago

I'll take a look, thanks. Actually might pick up MGS2 again (PS Vita), It's been years since I last played. Might start a new game tbh.

sadraiden351d ago

MGS2 literally predicted digital manipulation of information that we see today all the way back in 2001. MGS2 became Zucc's playbook.

Knushwood Butt350d ago

MGS taught me not to pee my pants.

cell989350d ago

Yes back in 1998 when I was 13. Throughout the years more information has been shown on this subject matters, but go back to early 2000s and information wasn't as prominent. Kojima was ahead of the game

If it wasn't for the retconning of how FOXDIE works, including clunky scenes with Naomi and Liquid, MGS4 would be a perfect game. There are so many gameplay options. It felt like us PS3 owners got something truly unique and special.
