I'll Take A FF9 Remake Instead, Thanks

Getting a Final Fantasy 7 remake would be cool, but a Final Fantasy 9 remake would be even better.

FF8 for me. With a more concise, less confusing plot.

wishingW3L4300d ago

less confusing plot? Have you actually played FF7, FF8 and FF9? Because between the 3 games FF9 is actually the most straight forward and easy to understand in gameplay and story. 0_o

Son_Lee4300d ago

FFVIII doesn't have a confusing plot if you actually paid attention.

So why did one NPC other than the Sorceress have an ability to manipulate time? Why did she select Squall and Crew to use it on?

Why did Irvine just come out as say he knew everyone and who the Sorceress was instead of accepting a mission where he not only he knew he'd freeze, but got squall impaled and falling several stories?

Why, if there's anti-magic technology which was used at the prison which an unharmed Squall woke up in, didn't anyone simply capture and lock up the Sorceress? Also why did the anti-magic field only work selectively, with your characters apparently only unable to use magic until they tried to escape?

Where did the Jabba the Hutt reject get the money to loan to Cid to fund SeeD and what did he want out of it? Why is he the only member of his species you ever see?

How the F*** did Laguna go from being a dim witted merc to president of a hidden away technological Eden?

Please don't get me wrong, I like the game and the general story, but at the same time much of it in nonsensical crap.

@Godmars290

"So why did one NPC other than the Sorceress have an ability to manipulate time?"

Well judging from other games with a magic/fantasy setting and even the mytho of FF8 Ellone was born with that gift like how Sorceress are given their different powers, some are born with them, others are given them by other Sourceress. Instead of Elone becoming a Sorceress she'd rather hide her power and try to live a normal life.

"Why did she select Squall and Crew to use it on?"

Because they were willing to risk there lifes as trained SeeDs to defeat the threat that threaterned the Past, Present and Future.

Plus Elone wanted to see is Squall could change the past when playing as Laguna. She wanted to change the past so she would live a different life where she wasn't kidnapped, where him Raine and Laguna stayed in the village together. She knew Squall and Laguna...they are father and Son...thats probably why she selected them to try and change things.

"Why did Irvine just come out as say he knew everyone and who the Sorceress was instead of accepting a mission where he not only he knew he'd freeze, but got squall impaled and falling several stories"

Because he's a ladies man...a big shot. He was big headed and thought he could do it. People like that don't run away...the reason he froze was because he realised at the last minute when it was his time to shine that a lot of pressure was on him to make this shot against Edea.

"Why, if there's anti-magic technology which was used at the prison which an unharmed Squall woke up in, didn't anyone simply capture and lock up the Sorceress?"

Oh....you mean how Irvine tried to shoot her but she SAW IT COMING. She would kill them before anyone got close. They wouldn't of gotten the Garden involved if they could do that. Hell she even knew what Rinoa was going to do to try and bind her powers.

"Also why did the anti-magic field only work selectively, with your characters apparently only unable to use magic until they tried to escape? "

Well...they moved out of range when Zell bust them out of that prison cell when he was going to get their weapons. The guards could use it outside of battle when Zell ran into them.

"Where did the Jabba the Hutt reject get the money to loan to Cid to fund SeeD and what did he want out of it? "

He was a traitor to his tribe who cast him out, he probably got the money by doing something "illegal" or moraly wrong and in return he could live in the Garden and have his staff in control of the pupils. He's a guy who likes power...it's pretty obvious. Apparently him and Cid were friends or knew each other

"Why is he the only member of his species you ever see? "

He's not....we see his species in Shumi Village up North.

"How the F*** did Laguna go from being a dim witted merc to president of a hidden away technological Eden?"

He helped in the Sourceress war and was the one who trapped Adel...winning the war for the people in Esther.

"Please don't get me wrong, I like the game and the general story, but at the same time much of it in nonsensical crap. "

No...you basicaly nit picked the game apart...while most of your questions were answered in the game.

I could nit pick all FF games since all of them you have to fill in the gaps your self. There not going to explain everything to you.

oldfriend864300d ago

(@ Godmars290) Eeek, spoilers. As confusing as the story is. I can't answer too many of your questions, but I'll try.

1. Squall is Laguna's and Raine's child, though never blatantly disclosed, unless you pay close attention. Ellone was also there at the orphanage, with Squall and crew. Laguna left Ellone's care to Edea, thinking it'll be safer at the orphanage. Ellone was simply an adopted daughter of Raine, so there's no blood relation between Ellone and Squall other than knowing Laguna and Raine. But that was also the key Ellone needed to link Squall back up with Laguna; the two men she knew who would save the world. Plus it's a typical RPG archetype to have a lone girl, who has amazing powers and is still essentially defenseless. lol

2. That, I don't blame you for being confused, regarding Squall impaled by an icicle. But he was merely on a parade float, so the fall wasn't high. But he was still impaled and survived. I'm guessing it was an illusion? It's Final Fantasy, so just let's just say it was "magic" and move on. Irvine not being exposed to GFs meant he knew about the crew and orphanage, but it probably didn't occur to him at first, until being with the group for a while. I also think he assumed everyone knew about the orphanage/edea and didn't feel the need to bring it up. He probably didn't know the group had lost their memories (at first). As for freezing up even though Irvine was gung-ho for the battle plan, that syndrome happens to most soldiers and pilots in real life.

3. Well, I don't remember an anti-magic field in the prison. But the prison was probably constructed after Adel was imprisoned. Keeping her in hibernation in space, was the only way to contain her.

4. I think you might be confused. Haven't you gone to the Village of Shumi, where Norg (Jabba the Hut guy) is from? Anyways, a short summary is that Norg left the village with a bit of wealth with him. He met up with Cid and he lent him funds to create Garden. Norg is the one who suggested that Seed be a mercenary group to do hired work, thus bringing more money to Garden. And even if you haven't been to the Village of Shumi, you've seen their evolved form. You know those cute little lions with red hair? Moombas! ^_^

5. You know, I don't think this materialized visually, but only through conversation (and Laguna's Journal entries). Laguna led a resistance after he was imprisoned in Esthar, to fight against Sorceress Adel. Basically, he pushed Adel into a cryogenic tomb and froze her in place. Then they sent the bitch into space as a precaution.

I'm the same as you where I enjoyed the game, but I will completely agree that almost nothing was clear or made sense. Some people were happier before disc three, and some loved the entire game.

NAdkins014300d ago

I think FF VIII was underrated. I see your points about the plot holes but most of the Final Fantasies have the same issues with not fully explaining how and why things happened.

I personally loved the futuristic and realistic look of FF VIII though. Hitting square and the draw system were a bit much at times but overall an amazing game.

Hicken4300d ago

All your questions about FFVIII have answered, and pretty smartly, by both VanillaBear and oldfriend86. Honestly, none of that stuff was hard to grasp; I hardly had to think about it.

The ONE real question remaining in FFVIII is who Ultimecia really was. Virtually everything else is either directly answered in the game, or heavily implied.

Ellone couldn't manipulate time; she was, however, able to send the consciousness of someone she knew to the past, in order to observe it. But they weren't free: they could only accompany the consciousness of someone else she knew. Not all people with powers had the same powers, otherwise Adel could have used the same magic as Ultimecia, and Edea could have used the same, and so on.

Remember the scene on the train, where Irvine is hitting on Quistis and Selphie, talking about how it's fate(or destiny)? That was him remembering them after all that time; they ignored him because they didn't. Since Irvine hadn't used a GF until he joined with the party- as opposed to all the others, who HAD- he remembered what they did not.

I'm not even going to get further into this stuff, because it's all so right there in front of you.

Godmars2904300d ago

No, no they haven't. At leas not within the context of the game while I was playing it. Much of what people are thinking they're being so brilliant in telling me, I figured out years ago. Years ago after I finished the game.

The reason I brought up the questions was to attempt to point out how JRPGs have become a poor storytelling medium. That what often passes for a plot in them often because they're cool rather than to fit logically while advancing the story.

Now I'm just realizing that much of this has been happening because we the player have been condoning and excusing this. Once I could excuse it, explain it, but now I don't want to do that anymore.

I want to see another Chrono Trigger or Xenogears. Titles which introduced and kept to the rules their worlds operated in. Something that not even a modern game like Mass Effect does right.

And I really hate the fact that I'm in the minority of that camp.

Jihaad_cpt4300d ago

loved the story the way it was so... How could you not understand it?

Hicken4300d ago

"Much of what people are thinking they're being so brilliant in telling me, I figured out years ago."

Then why ask ANY of those questions? Maybe they didn't pop out at you right as you were playing, especially not the first time, but the answers were all still there within the game. You didn't need any supplement; you just needed to pay more attention.

I missed out on the whole Rinoa/Seifer dating thing simply because I wasn't expecting it. But I noticed it in later playthroughs. That doesn't make it confusing.

A game where you GET everything the first time kinda sucks; there's nothing new for you to learn by playing a second time. And I like games- sorta like Nier, for example- where I get more information the more I play.

The only FF remakes I would really want are V, VI, and IX. IV was one of em, but we already have two remakes of that....

Son_Lee4300d ago

Even though FFVII is my favorite, I would also be okay with an FFVIII remake, for sure.

StarFox4300d ago

FF6 is the only one i want to see remade, best story of all the FF's

MoveTheGlow4300d ago (Edited 4300d ago )

Word, FF6 for the win! I understand that some people don't get it - it's hard to visualize every character and every scene in 16-bit 2D if it wasn't the new big thing during your childhood, but that game's story is epic at its core. If there's anything that needs a gigantic overhaul, and would be incredibly impressive (considering you'd basically have to have two differently-designed worlds!), it's FF6 first and foremost. Gawd, if they brought the Amano illustration style to life in that game, like a super-stylized version of what Okami was in the PS2 era, who could turn that down??

And then Chrono Trigger.

And then Einhander!!!

And *then* FFVII.

What am I thinking, this is Square-Enix. They'll probably put all of their resources into a remake of FFXIII-2, but somehow also make it a subscription-based MMO, where you can only play it for 15 minutes a day. No one will play it, and they'll blame console cycles or something.

Hal0_0_EmElG4300d ago (Edited 4300d ago )

Why would SE even want to, when FF fans are never grateful or satisfied with any game you give them , self entitlement is strong amongst this bunch.

Final Fantasy 6 (see above).

I liked it a lot, I will not compare it with other final fantasy, But I hadn't felt that emotion for a long time playing since the final fantasy vll remake, it lacks some things, it's not my goty, but it deserves a place in my heart, with that I say everything.
