Does The Last of Us fetishise violence?

Word. You can literally chainsaw a guy in half, curb stomp his head in or blow your opponent into bloody pieces in Gears of War (Journalists: "DID YOU SEE THAT?!?! AWESOME BRO!!! *high fives*), but suddenly, shooting a guy in TLOU is too violent for them (Journalists: "DID YOU SEE THAT?!?! HE SHOT A GUY IN THE FACE! What has the world come to...Jenna..contact Fox News, this is just terrible").

Remember how the US/UK journalists went on about how the airport sequence in CoD wasn't that bad and for everyone to stop whining/talking about it? I think you could even kill innocent women in that part of the game.

What do you expect? It's a post apocalyptic game where survival is important. You wouldn't expect butterflies, everyone hugging eachother etc. so far the violence that has been shown in the gameplay video and trailer fit the mood and the cause for the violence. I can think of a lot of games that just have violence in there just for the "cool" factor. This my friend is addinga whole new demsion to storytelling and presentation.

As long as the violence fits the setting I am all for it. Joel lives in an apocalyptic city with scavengers constantly trying to rob and/or kill him and horrible, hideous monsters running everywhere. Now despite the illusion that gamers seem to have that they would be calm and sane during something like this in reality you would be probably be violent and on the verge of insanity. Just imagine every second of the day you are being hunted or stalked by humans and inhuman creatures while having to scavenge and search for the very things that keep you alive. Day after day after day in a broken city constantly reminding you that the world you once knew is dead and tell me you won't become violent.

That and a massive amount of PTSD, seeing that some people will end up going ape shit, at the fact that they had to "put-down" , their nieghbors, friends, once innocent people, and even their own family members. As you mentioned, there is more to a post apocalyptic world caused by an out break, than just trying to survive by getting away from the altered humans. People forget that there will be some "crazies" within it as well. Can't forget the crazies(due to said, PTSD).

i remember in an interview or something that one of the creators said that they wouldn't shy away from violence, but they weren't going to have violence just for the sake of violence.
