Do the system requirements of FFVII re-release tell us something

I want to make one thing clear, this is not rumour, I'm not grinding that old mill again, what I have in front of me are cold hard facts and those facts are the system requirements.

Possible reasons:

A: Not all systems can run Windows 95 games well anymore. It's due to drivers I think. For example I can't play System shock 2

B: XP, Vista and Windows 7 require more RAM than 95

C: DX9 - again, Xp, Vista and Windows 7 don't run Windows 95 as well as they used to, very likely FF7 got Up-ported to these operating systems.

Of course these are only possibilities, maybe your suspicions are correct I just doubt it. It's more likely S-E wants to make sure EVERY modern PC can run this game. By simply updating it to run on modern hardware/software drivers and what those drivers require to run smoothly. This is essentially a 'patched' version of FF7 to make it run on modern systems. They are not going to re release the PC version because it would be a pain in the balls to get running for alot of users.

Oh absolutely, but I would also like to point out the word "minimum", recommend requirements are always the brutal give awas of anything tasty, so keep your eyes peeled :)

Bobby Kotex4304d ago

That's the stupidest thing I've read this week.

Reibooi4305d ago

I'm just hoping they fixed it while they were updating it. I mean the original release ruined the music by making it midi and the game was plagued by a ton of bugs the PSone version didn't have.

Mounce4305d ago

The requirements are probably higher only because it's unoptimized XD

Bobby Kotex4304d ago

I distinctly remember not getting sound to work and eventually quit trying to play.

dumahim4304d ago

Playstation music was midi as well.

hay4305d ago

Modern engine, since old one was pretty rough and hardly playable under modern OS. Modern engines tend to be less optimized as coders have usually more resources to play with.

Modern OS, note that even during gameplay system works in the background, keeping stuff in memory, etc.

Shoddy coding. Projects like that are usually outsourced or delegated to smaller, fresh teams. Coding in overall starts to be more and more popular, and people without proper experience and knowledge tend to code. Which results in shitty or unoptimized code. Trust me on this...

There are also requirements. Usually those projects are drafted with specific requirements in mind, like in case of PC game, sys reqs. I think CPU speed market share was deciding factor. There's simply no need optimizing a game for desktop computers below 2ghz as most systems have more than that on board.

why release ff 7 on pc? what kinda sense does that make when you can just run it on a emulator anywhere from pc higher than 1080p, phone, jtag 360, xbox 1, ps3, ps2, ps1...wouldnt be surprised if my toaster oven could play it.

PS-Analog4305d ago

So what youre trying to say is that this is a remastered version insteaad of a re-release?

Vynzent4305d ago (Edited 4305d ago )

Because he is retarded.
Really that's why, lol.

If they add anti-aliasing for the blocky models then yes, you could say it's been remastered, lmao xD

DJ4305d ago

Those are just the minimum system requirements for Windows OS. Nothing more. Final Fantasy 7 will look the same.

voodoopickle4305d ago

they might be testing the waters to see if they can make money off of a remastered HD version for the consoles

guitar_nerd_234305d ago (Edited 4305d ago )

So pretty much any machine capable of running Windows 7 is fine.

This means nothing.

edit: Ooooo I tell you what would be good but unlikley though, support and tools for modders- let the community handle the remake- shotgun guitar parts!

guitarse4305d ago

Nah, way ahead of you :D unless you want to duet? lol

That's awesome cover dude but how about making the best use out of this axe by throwing out some vibratos to shake those strings to oblivion? And here's some of my playing (didn't know N4G had members who play the guitar :P)

If SE played there cards right and added modder support they would earn a killing of FF7 that is a fact.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens529d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens529d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK21219d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens528d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens528d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani9d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum10d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman9d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim9d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

I disagree Batman

Rise of the ronin sold twice as much as Dragons Dogma 2 this week...but no articles about that. It's only news if a PS exclusive is being outsold.
