Don’t Be Jealous of China Just Because They Get Call of Duty for Free

By now you’ve undoubtedly heard that an exclusive version of America’s precious Call of Duty franchise is on its way to the Land of the Red Dragon. (Or wait, isn’t Wales the Land of the Red Dragon? Shut up, I’m trying to talk about China here.) And if you’re an unwavering CoD superfan, you’re probably feeling a bit of jealousy, especially if the PC is your system of choice.

i wouldn't play it anyway, Even if it was free.

PoSTedUP4304d ago

i couldn't be jealous of anyone living in china this free cod is a bit of a relief to them no?

Boody-Bandit4304d ago (Edited 4304d ago )

It's obvious geekparty has clue none about China. Nobody in their rights minds are jealous of anything China has to offer especially working at gun point for slave wages and the highlight of your day is to commit suicide so your horrible life will end already.

Geekparty you do realize China has nets in place to catch suicide jumpers from killing themselves at sweat shops all over their country. If not, now you do know.

Never put China and jealous in the same sentence unless you're a sadist.

MattS4304d ago

It's so cute when people like @Brutallyhonest have never been to a country, but act like they're experts.

And by "cute" I mean "highly ignorant"

Not that China's an amazing place to live, but it's nowhere near the picture you're painting, either.

I'm going to guess you're American.

Sono4214304d ago (Edited 4304d ago )

@ MattS Don't be so quick to judge every American as ignorant. Jumping to conclusions just makes you look stupid. I hate that other countries act as if morons only exist in America, idiots are all over the world and if you don't know that you're the one that's ignorant. Anyways, What did he say that is wrong?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/...

China is known for its terrible working conditions, sweat shops, long hours, high suicide rate, you name it, stating facts that don't put a country in a positive light doesn't make you a hater or ignorant, but assuming someone is because they do makes you ignorant. You do know that there is a reason all of our factories get moved over there right?
------------edit------------- ---
OT: I'm not jealous that they're getting this.

MattS4304d ago

@Sono,

He said:

"Nobody in their rights minds are jealous of anything China has to offer"

A load of crap. There are a lot of really good jobs in China for expats. Not everyone in China works in a factory.

He said:

"especially working at gun point"

Nope.

"highlight of your day is to commit suicide"

Nope. That's not a highlight in anyone's day.

"Geekparty you do realize China has nets in place to catch suicide jumpers from killing themselves at sweat shops all over their country."

The nets around the building are at Foxconn. One factory that happened to hit headlines because it's the one Apple uses. Not every factory. One.

So from start to finish his comments were filled with sensationalist and utterly incorrect statements. Clearly someone who has not been there, and that kind of sensationalism comes from the American media more than anywhere else, which is why I made the guess I did.

China is not an ideal place to work, especially for factory workers, but China has a large (and growing) middle class, and minimum wages in many working-class jobs are improving.

There's the real facts. From someone who has been to China.

Sono4214304d ago (Edited 4304d ago )

@MattS I simply skimmed over those statements like " the highlight of your day is to commit suicide so your horrible life will end already." Because they're obviously exaggerated and not meant to be taken literally. Also I don't believe he said every factory has them? He may have been wrong in saying that they're all over the country but he wasn't wrong to point them out. Also it's not just American media that does this, its all media, its almost the entire point of media and that's why I do my own research and don't watch the idiotic news because its all run by biased morons anyways. Well my points here are:
1. Don't be so quick to judge.
2. Don't deny china could use some improvement, they seem to have little to no interest for the individual. I'm not saying that as fact its simply what I gather from their actions. What I feel would help most is new leadership.
3. Lastly where you're from doesn't have anything to do with who you are as a person. So enough of these idiotic stereotypes put on people's personalities based on where they live.

gedapeleda4304d ago

@Brutallyhonest STFU you know nothing about China,
you know only bullshit that your TV shows.
I've been there and there's no sutch thing as slavery, people working in factorys live an averege life. And there's more truth and order than in any western country...

Kurt Russell4304d ago (Edited 4304d ago )

I've been to China kriauciuniux... and you're wrong on every single part. I was in Beijing and found the living conditions and poverty within that country appalling. I was living in Korea at the time, so I wasn't comparing it with the western world, but other countries from the orient.

The people of China live very very underprivileged lives for the most part, apart from the odd wealthy controlling few (as always).

PoSTedUP4304d ago

the only thing good about china is Chinese food, and if you are there visiting from a first world country.

Pushagree4304d ago

Sounds like MattS preferes a hammer and sickle over a hamburger. China sucks and always will.

awi59514304d ago (Edited 4304d ago )

@MattS

He's not making stuff up matts and you know it. The Foxcon Mega factory is legal slavery. You get 12 years in prison for trying to form a union. Your forced to live in a small apartment with 8 other people. You work 31 hour shifts for 30 cent a hour. And yes they have up nets to stop the employees from jumping to their deaths. Your just a Chinese national trying to do damage control. Now get your sorry butt back to Wikipedia and edit out all the bad things said about China. Just like your commie overloards ordered to you to.

Maybe they are stealing sales tactics from crack dealers! Get them hooked then hike the price!

tacosRcool4304d ago

Well they get stuck with the Free to play model. But its really pay to win model. They gonna rape their small made in China wallets

spicelicka4304d ago

well it's basically advertisement for current and future COD games.

Because their milking tactics failed in China and not as many people played or bought the game year after year, unlike North american idiots, they released this free to get players addicted.

Once the fanbase increases there, all support for this free game will stop and activision will expect them to buy the real games.

TheSaint4304d ago

*Even if someone paid me to.

360ICE4304d ago

Haha, yeah :)

And, btw China. It's FREEDOM, not FREE COD.

GuyThatPlaysGames4304d ago

@omi25p Then why even come on here and comment on the article??

omi25p4303d ago

Isnt the whole point of the comment systems to tell your opinion on the subject.

Why even comment on my comment asking why i commented in the first place. HMMMMMM

GuyThatPlaysGames4303d ago

Well you've been on this site for over 2 years now and still only have 2 bubbles so I guess that obviously means you know what you're talking about -_-

Batzi4304d ago

who said we were jealous of China?

SilentNegotiator4304d ago

And they're wrong. Who wants rehashed content with a pay-to-win model of CoD?

Hufandpuf4304d ago

@Silentnegotiator

Just because western gamers don't see the appeal to F2P P2W models, doesn't mean China doesn't either. Look up Combat Arms, and see the demographic on that game.

Oh_Yeah4304d ago (Edited 4304d ago )

most production is located in china...wouldnt be surprising for them to become the richest nation sooner or later...plus ip mans from china, the most bad ass dude there was at least in the movies anyway lol. shit without china wed be paying much more for our consoles, clothes, cars, etc. if we had all our production back here, yes unemployment rates would be close to zero but our people arnt willing to slave for 2$ an hour.

JBSleek4304d ago (Edited 4304d ago )

The reason it is free is because of how the Chinese model handles games. Nothing to be jealous of. Actually I don't think we are jealous.

I wouldn't be surprised if Activision is planning such a movement for other countries.

dirthurts4304d ago

Why would you pirate a free game?

MattS4304d ago

@dirthurts - that's why they release games as Free-to-play in China. Otherwise they'll get pirated.

This way the 1 per cent of people that would spend money on the game can support it, without piracy killing the company in the process.

Soldierone4304d ago

It is in the pipes, we can all see it.

"Free-to-Play" aka "nickel and dime you at every wall" or "pay-to-win" models are slowly entering the industry.....

Go try to play SimCity Social....its not even SimCity anymore, but EA is going to make massive amounts of money off it.....

Summons754304d ago

lol Activision dose not know the word "Free" they will find a way to make them pay

Dark_Overlord4304d ago

Most likely a multiplayer level cap, which would put non payers at a big disadvantage

HammadTheBeast4304d ago

Confirmed to have so-called "microtransactions".

Micro, my ass.

MattS4304d ago

Yep, that's funny alright.

Whoever would have thought that a company that employs thousands of people would need to make some money from the work they do?

lol.

Prince_Dim-Lu4304d ago

really @summons75?

I'll be getting a free map called Terminal pretty soon from Activision.

Seems like that's free to me.

Alos884304d ago

Considering how messed up China is politically I'd say it would take more than free games to make me envious of them.

Grap4304d ago

well china is now the new super power...you and your politically.

AO1JMM4304d ago

You should take up stand up comedy because that is laughably incorrent.

SpecialK4304d ago

Actually AO1JMM Grap may not be correct but give it a few years or decades and he might be.

Look online bbc did a good documentary on it, China is the growing superpower right now, its overtaken Japan to become the worlds second largest economy and whilst the western world slows its still growing.

Look it up on google, might be surprised by what you find

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

melons6d ago

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac6d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-235d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher21d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris21d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera20d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii20d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts20d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX20d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

is this what the kids want these days a pair of iconic stoners who were big in the 70s and have kind of held on I enjoyed their movies decades ago but I never recall the movie where cheech infiltrates a enemy base while chong snipes for support guess I must of missed that one

Man I'm getting to old for this

Knightofelemia21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

MW3 missed its easiest opportunity to give us some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made

From Bootleg to Black Box, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made a heartbreaking mistake by not remastering the bizarrely forgotten maps from its namesake.
