On the first episode of Ready, Set Game, KZ shows off his top 10 favorite RPG Boss themes of all time!
17 years later, it still stands out.
The game was indeed amazing. Great characters, gameplay and story!
But the dream sequences penned by Shigematsu were sublime.
I still remember many of these stories and I have integrated in the past in my D&D campaign many years ago.
Microsoft should have just kept pumping money into these guys. Same with a lot of the other studios... the blundered hard.
Lost Odysee deserved a franchise even though development wasn't smooth
It's not like it has had any competition since 2007. Would really like to own the short stories from it in book form.
The problem with most MS games on 360 was they didn’t make the games they paid for them and that makes you less money in the long run and isn’t something you can continue to do especially with declining sales of consoles. MS should have been starting and growing studios from the beginning but they went for paid games and it leaves them without the knowledge and culture of making games.
Take it down the memory lane with this ultimate list of the best PlayStation 2 games of all time. Just the best of the best right here.
It's so disappointing that to this day, I have not seen a game match what BLACK offers in an FPS.
The greatest console of all time !!!!
The last console from when gaming was pure, games didn't take 5 years to release, no online only, no half finished games, no mtx.
Ps2 was just banger after banger after banger.
It will always be my favourite.
It’s been 20+ years since the time that gave us Mulholland Drive and “Bootylicious”, meaning this look at the best games of 2001 is going to make some of you feel very old very quickly.
I don't know why, but I always think of the Jenova theme. It is by no means my favorite, but the song just sticks in my head and has done since my childhood.
Final Fantasy 13 had a general boss song that was brilliant. I think it was titles "Saber's edge".
Some other note worthy themes from this gen that surprised me are Gwyn Lord of Cinder's theme and Ornstein and Smough. Both themes are from Dark Souls and add so much to the encounter.
For me personally the greatest boss theme is Zeromus (Final Battle) in Final Fantasy 4.
It was the first FF game i finished & hearing that song when battling Zeromus was epic. The music felt like a battle to save the world which is what a final battle should be like.
Mine is definitely the song that plays during the fight with Sephiroth. As a fan of classical music, those screeching strings gave* me chills.
I have it on my "online gaming" playlist. I love when it randomly plays!
*Second Edit: One Winged Angel is the title.
Lol that was bugging me. :P
Never played any of the Persona games, but that boss theme he listed as #1 does sound pretty sweet.
I'm stuck on this one at the moment:

This at one point was my alarm clock:

and I just can't get these two from KH2 out of my head:

They're not even the "best tracks EVAAAARR" but they just stick. It's disturbing just how many times I've played those two KH tracks on repeat, especially the first one.
Oh and an honorable mention:

I love RPG music, especially the boss battle themes :). Anyone know any other sweet ones?
I agree with them all especially kh2.
One winged angel-orchestral is a triumph of composing and am nit just saying it cause I am a huge ff 7 fan (I think 8 is better)
Even non boss themes though such as breezy -balmb town theme is beautiful.
Basically kudos to Umetsu
