Final Fantasy VII On PC Officially Outed

Ummmm....FF7 launched on PC back in 1998.

SE should implement what the mod community already did for the the first FFVII release.

Like replace the super deformed characters with the battle versions (or better yet, the Advent Children versions) when walking around the environments.

It's hard to go back to chubby Cloud jumping off that train at the beginning, after seeing tall, normal Cloud and Barret do it in the mods.

No to all of that. Would ruin it, it's perfect the way it is. Stop trying to force today's standards on it.

There's something about modding that just spoils a game for me. It breaks the illusion that the game is self-contained and untouchable. I don't want modders spoiling VII like that.

Uh the modders in this case are trying to preserve immersion. FFVI is perfect because of the consistent character look throughout.

But even back then, FFVII's SD characters to normal character transitions were jarring to some of us.

And where did u get forcing today's standards on older games from? Just one game later, FFVIII kept the same character design throughout the game to maintain the feel and immersion. The modders are just doing what Square themselves did a few years later.

To each their own, but the original FFVII is still there for all to play.

The story doesn't need to be touched, but there are some people that would like to see even a slight update in graphics (hence loads of fans begging for a remake). If SE won't do it, then I guess it's up to the fans that care to realize this dream.

What does that even mean? Squaresoft officially released FF7 for the PC way back in the day. This is just a rerelease.

Yeah after double checking you are right, they did release the first game, it was just crappy with bad sound and lots bugs which made me think it was just a port..

Understand one thing: Square-Enix has a lot of teams.

Some teams will not delay their projects because Versus XIII wasn't released yet.

Funny thing is that I'm actually playing this game on my PS3 at the moment. I got it from the PSN for only 10 bucks. I'm very much enjoying it. I've had it for a few years but I never really got the chance to play the game because of college studies and other responsibilities.

But now that it's summer, I can finally have time to play JRPGs again. The game is outstanding, I can only imagine how excited and amazed people felt when it first came out.

This game is so good, I'll probably buy it again on the PC.

Pointless cash-in, anyone?

Seriously, they obviously haven't bothered to update the game besides allowing for widescreen and possibly high resolution support. But high resolutions will just make all those low-res assets (ESPECIALLY the pre-rendered backgrounds and movies) look terrible. They've put pretty much no effort into this.

I played this game again about 2 years ago and have no reason to jump back in, so I'll be passing.

No cash-in is pointless. If you look at it from SE's point of view it's not a bad idea. People will buy this and SE will make money. If you dont like this then dont buy it and move on.

Well, seeing as I'm a gamer (and I'm sure most people here are), from my perspective it's a "pointless cash-in." I don't really care how SE are looking at it, I stand nothing to gain from that or the sales this rehash garners. I fully intend to not buy it and move on, but I also felt like expressing my distaste in order to possibly initiate a discussion with other gamers. Is that OK with you?

I guess everybody is forgetting about how many people out there have just HEARD about VII, and never actually played it. This is a nice, simple way to get them into it, and it could well be a precursor to a full re-release for console.

The system requirements are what allure me. They're actually in the mid-range, which means the visuals should be MUCH improved!
