Miyamoto Should Look Back to the Original Zelda for Inspiration, Not A Link to the Past

Zelda Informer writes: "[P]eople underestimate just how awesome a new and true spiritual successor to the original Legend of Zelda would be. You want a unique take on the series that at the same time retains the core identity? Well, we haven’t had a Zelda game that’s really inherited this kind of design framework in a very, very long time."

This makes no sense at all.
Link to the past is basically the "perfected" "LoZ". Going Back means downgrading. And they will eventually work their way up back to Link to the past.

Sorry,

LoZ:SS already captured how I felt about the very first Zelda Game.

SS is my game. I hope they keep much of it's play style.

But, even though it's not your point, I would love to see an old school Zelda game based off the 8 bit original. Make it a download.

gamerben4314d ago

I agree that SS was very fun to play, but I felt underwhelmed in some areas.

Seriously, I want more enemies than those red goblin things :\

And a bigger map for the sky, like windwaker.

CouldHaveYelledUiiW4314d ago

More would not be horrible.

The flying was waaaaAAaaaaay more fun that LoZ:WW's sailing (only IMO).

I wish that all of the NPC character's were as "complexed" as the girl that worked in the LoZ: TP Fishing Shop.
The way that she had dialogue for all of the things that see saw you looking at in Zelda 1st Person look mode was way more immersive.

gamerben4314d ago

I didn't say anything about sailing vs. flying. I'm just saying I enjoyed Wind Waker's larger map more.

CouldHaveYelledUiiW4314d ago

I wasn't aiming that comment at you. There were a couple of other Zelda Stories over the past couple of days. Some people said they liked the sailing in WW. That's why I said, "(only IMO)."

Like I said before I agree with you on the bigger map. also, more Skyloft land areas would be nice.

It's a fair point to make.

A Link to the Past's formula has become sort of a blueprint for the series: 3 dungeons then Master Sword, dual world theme etc.. That being said, it would be extremely hard not to look at A Link to the Past for inspiration. It is truly epic, and much better than the original (imo).

The Wind Waker reminds me the most of the original Legend of Zelda. The sea is huge, and takes quite a bit of dedication to fully explore. The hero also collects pieces of the Triforce, just like in the original.

linkratos4314d ago

They should look to Link's Awakening. Plenty of dungeons, but a nice quest to do before each. Simple story with fantastic characters. Lots of exploration but still focused. Satisfying gameplay yet easy to pick up and go. Good development but at a quick pace.

Basically the perfect balance of everything.

thatdudesfrys4314d ago

He says that the older games were far more simple? I don't think we want "simple" in the new games. We want "awesome".

abzdine4314d ago

Games were awesome before and they are far too simple these days

MWH4314d ago (Edited 4314d ago )

simple AND awesome would be great too.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno71d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic102d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast102d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul102d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

Zelda Fan Brings Godzilla to Life in Tears of the Kingdom

A fan of The Legend of Zelda has recreated the iconic Japanese monster Godzilla in Tears of the Kingdom using the game's Zonai devices.

Knightofelemia140d ago

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
