PlayStation Blog: Doom 3: BFG Edition is set to launch on PlayStation 3 in October 2012, and brings with it the first two games in the iconic series. isnt 3d dead already. 3D has still has not made an impact... and most people I know dont give a crap about it... I know soon that it is going to be standard in all tvs but it still don't matter. And to say differently is to only try to blindly justify your own purchase of a 3D television... Sorry but no one cares about that........ and 3D gaming isn't the future it's a damn gimmick.... oh and Doom is a shitty game

Lol now look. 3D is here to stay. There has to be some sort of progression to the inevitable hologram technology. The thing is, converted 3D is the crap thing. Movies & games built from the ground up in 3D look amazing with the right set up. Watched Avatar and played Uncharted 3 using my friends Sony HMZ-T1.....bloody hell it looked amazing!! So much so, I'm buying a unit next month!

All Im saying is 3D did not take off they way the TV manufactures hoped that it would. Now pretty much all new TV's that come out are 3D, and also smart tv's, but 3D is still not this huge in home thing. By default soon everyone will have 3D in there homes but I really dont see lots of people using on the regular.

1. 360 has not enjoyed the "full experience" because if that were true, then they wouldn't be releasing this bundle of games for the 360 as well.

2. The article states they pretty much had to remake the whole game, aka not the same experience.

3. All PS3s will play the PS1 copy of Doom.

4. My ancient Zune HD can play Doom 2.

5. Halo CE HD doesn't count since it's a remake. Just like PS2 remakes of course they are going to be HD, but they still won't look that great.

On a separate note 3D gaming is fun. I loved the first two games back in the day, never got around to the third one. Looking forward to racking up some trophies with these cool games.

So there’s the addition of the mounted flashlight to the game. Has anything else been modified for PS3?

Eric: We’re making textural improvements to the characters and demons. We’ve completely rewritten the network code so that multiplayer is a better experience. In addition there’s also the Lost Mission Pack, containing seven new levels. They pick up from a certain part of the story line in the main game – without giving too much away, it’ll all make sense when you play it. You’re a different guy in a different part of the base but it’s the same world

I just wish they would port the first two games to the Vita. I remember playing Doom on the Gameboy SP lol, and emulations of it on the PSP. Actual copies to the Vita would be awesome!

All PS3 models, "fat" and "slim", are capable of playing PS1 disc's. Only PS2 backwards compatibility was removed during the transition from "fat" to "slim" models.

Full Doom experience comes to the PS3. Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 are dated games that are 10, 15 and 20 years old respectively.

There are a plethora of shooters on the market that literally blow Doom out of the water. Call of Duty, Killzone, Resistance, Halo and numerous other modern FPS series.

1990s nostalgia for Doom and Doom 2 and mid 2000s for Doom 3.

Subjectivity is a bitch. To say Call of Duty blows Doom out of the water? That's your opinion...and I can't agree. Resistance is in the same sub-genre with creatures and over-the-top guns, so I can see that comparison...

...that said, your closing statement is what this is about. They aren't releasing a package like this to plow the sales charts, or change the genre. It's a celebration of Doom and, like Duke Nukem Forever, it's for the fans.

Still, looking forward to the Doom package - I have Doom on the 360 but think I got it a little late, found it nearly impossible to find an online match for co-op and deathmatch so hopefully won't have the same problem this time around!

I think RAGE looked great from a distance.

Say what you want but Doom was terrifying. Those pixelated globs might not look like much, but the SFX are so damn good that they draw you in. And its also one of the pioneers of the rocket jump strategy. (along with quake, duke nukem, and the unreal games)

3D makes everything dark. Doom 3 is already too dark. You're going to miss out on all the lil details.

This is great to hear! Loved the classic DOOM games from back in the day and can't wait to jump into DOOM 3 again! Stereoscopic 3D support as well? Oh, hell yeah!!
