Nostalgia....it's usually better now than when you were actually having the moment. Few games were as epic as you remember. You had less fun than you probably remember playing that earlier entry too. Gamers always want their fav games to stay the same...then when they do they get bashed for not advancing. Classic

Honestly? I preferred Diablo 1 because of its creepy atmosphere and awesome soundtrack. Diablo 2 was more like in between Diablo 1 and 3, but still enjoyable. Regarding Diablo 1 though, this isn't nostalgia talking here, it's the overall quality of the game. The voice acting was much better than 3 and so was the color palette. 3 looks too cartoony to me. Deckard Cain sounded like a badass Sean Connery in the first while he sounds like an old geezer in 3. It's things like these that are the reason why I was somewhat disappointed in Diablo 3.

That's not to say Diablo 3 isn't fun as I still play it time to time, but it could have been so much better. If it was Diablo 1 atmosphere mixed with diablo 3 gameplay then maybe it would have been almost perfect.

I haven't played Diablo 3 but I seem to be having the same trouble with most modern rpgs. Dragons dogma is the happiest I've been in awhile with an RPG because of its old roots. In a day when games cost so much to make and in a time of WoW and CoD in which developers are constantly aware of just how much can be made and how large a consumer audience can be, games have been streamlined. RPG fans of old lobe to spend as much time in the menus as in the game. We love huge skill trees and lots of loot. And we really love the story. Now, I know that younger gamers, for the most part, don't have the patience for this, and that they make up a large part of the target audience, but there must be a way to make some great old school rpgs that will sell enough to justify their creation.

I been playing Dragons Dogma.... i don't know what you are talking about it feels just like a modern RPG, Dark Souls and Skyrim had a baby and name it Dragons Dogma thats how i feel.

On topic Diablo 3 is a lot of fun, harder in some ways and people don't like it, i got like 4 friend that are back on Diablo 2 because they can't pass Act 2 inferno, plus is easier to farm in Diablo 2, the patch thats coming today will try to fix the drop rates and nerf the content, from a guy who played all Diablo games each one with 300 hours plus i can say that Diablo 3 is pretty good, leaving some mechanics behind and implementing some new ones to simplified the game, i dont really see a problem with that but people seems to hate simple things.

Just to add on, I certainly am not hating diablo 3. That's a strong word to choose. I am enjoying it, it is fun, I just feel as though gameplay and story wise, it doesn't hold up to a game that came out 12 years ago. And that's kind of sad.

This is exactly what I've been saying too

Diablo 2 when it came out was a buggy mess, it received 8.3/10 at IGN and just wasn't as good as people might think.

After patches and the Lord of Destruction expansion pack things changed dramatically, with the addition of rune words and world events. I played it to death again 2 years ago on battle.net.

In Diablo 3 I have two lvl 60 characters and I've met some awesome people as well. After hitting the brick wall called Inferno difficulty though, I have little motivation to go back.

Moral of the story: I hope Diablo 3 will grow and improve over time as Diablo 2 did.

Basjohn4318d ago

The thing is D3 is getting 9/10s all over the place while it's still a buggy disappointing mess. It deserves a solid 8. It's not bad, but it IS worse than Diablo 2 as things currently stand and I hate that reviewers are letting it get away with murder.

Bakkies4318d ago

That is game journalism as it stands and I don't like it either. I feel the same way about Battlefield 3, it was a mess at launch but it got praised everywhere.

I agree that D3 is a solid 8. I just hope it'll improve over time with patches and maybe an expansion.

Then again, a patch won't remove the offensively bad dialogue, such as making Leah STFU. :)

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein75d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.

What Can Diablo IV Learn From Diablo II

Diablo IV may be the latest entry from the Diablo series, but it can sure learn a thing or two from the iconic Diablo II. Both of these games are different and similar to each other, but Diablo II's phenomenal presence should still be more appearing in Diablo IV to make the game even better in its current state.

Diablo 2 Receives 60 FPS Update Thanks To A New Mod

A fan-run initiative called Project Diablo 2 has brought a 60 FPS update for the classic Diablo title, among other changes.

Boo! Thought this was eventually a patch for diablo2 on PS5. The fact that they can’t get that game to run in quality mode at 60fps is an absolute joke!
