Next character reveal event hinted at for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

SuperBot Entertainment's Omar Kendall hints at when to expect the next character reveal to be for the upcoming Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita game, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Yes let's just reveal more western characters that didn't exist until this current generation...that's a real smart idea...except that it isn't and isn't nearly half of what should represent the playstation brand.

When I think playstation I damn sure don't think Nathan Drake or Kratos.

I think of Squaresoft, PS2 era capcom, Castlevania Symphony of the night, Tekken, Battle Arena Toshinden, Breath of Fire 3 and IV, the fucking list goes on...a much richer list than the one they are attempting to shit out.

Do you see SCEA reaching into the past to pull out forgotten gems or obscure characters like Nintendo did with SSB? I don't...I just see stupid shit that is meant to appeal to the modern "masses."

Bottom line, If they don't represent their roots I'm not buying the fucking game. If they can't get 3rd party characters that actually represent Playstation to a lot of people then this game is not worth my time.

And I dont have a problem with western characters...the problem is that they have ONLY revealed western characters and most of them weren't around until THIS CURRENT GEN.

8 characters announced so far, and 4 of the 8 are from past gens (mostly PS2). They are announcing characters from other generations though.

BUT I know exactly what your talking about. What we want to see are characters like Crash, Spyro, Croc, Jax and Dax, Ratchet and Clank, ect. There's a whole arsenal of characters they can announce.

This is more like the original Smash Bros, maybe except Ness all those characters were in the current generation. Perhaps in the next PS All Stars they'll have to branch back to all the old characters like Nintendo did

The characters they have are good so far, Parappa, Radec, and Sly represent some diverse games.

I definitely agree that there is a whole laundry list of better characters from Japan, and past generations that should be in the game before Fat Princess.

Unfortunately, it's not all up to Sony if we see characters like Sephiroth. I just hope they can work hard to give us a classic list of characters instead of using the game to advertise titles (Big Daddy being an obvious one for Bioshock Infinite, though I do like how they represented him) for upcoming releases.

I just want to see Crash, Spyro, Ratchet, Wanderer, Maximillian from Dark Cloud, Sephiroth, etc. It'd be a shame if those guys get put over for the modern, lesser significant names like Cole McGrath, or a Chimera. Unfortunately, I think DLC will be a big thing with this game, so I foresee a lot of milking with the bigger brand names. Fingers crossed that they don't disappoint the initial roster

With Sephiroth and others, we would love to see them but it'll be a pain to get some of them. Its easy for Sony to use characters from IPs they own rather than going to 20 different 3rd party devs/publishers and working deals to use their characters.
They will get some (they've already got Big Daddy), but the majority of the characters are not gonna be ones they don't own the rights to.

What are you talking about? Is PaRappa the Rapper a modern western character?

As for your more than ridiculous comment, Kratos and Sly Cooper both come from the "PS2-era", while Sweet Tooth and PaRappa come from Sony's "PS1-era". So basically, so far there are two from PS1, two from PS2 and 4 from PS3.

Nathan Drake being Sony's current flagship character, they'd have to be mentally handicapped not to include him.

As for some of the characters you mentioned, a lot of those characters aren't owned by Sony, nor are they games that pushed them into the limelight. In fact, a few of them were barely noticed as "charming gems".

Characters they should bring back (and are more deserving of the attention) are characters like Cloud Strife (Playstation Legend), Dart, Alucard, Solid Snake (Playstation Legend), Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Gabe Logan, Tomba, Maximo, Dante, Wander from SotC, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, with other more modern characters like Sackboy/girl (Sony's Kirby/Mario all-in-one), Nariko, Nathan Hale, Soldier from Warhawk or Emmett Graves from Starhawk, Cole MacGrath, Kat from Gravity Rush, and the 'robed figure' from Journey just to name a few.

Add those to the 8 characters already announced and you've got yourself a fantastic (and diverse) group of characters. Not to mention we'll probably see more surprises like Big Daddy and Fat Princess. I never would have expected those two. Even PaRappa was a surprise.

And for everyone crying that they don't use characters from every third party game just remember they cost MONEY to use them. Square isn't just going to give up the character's image for peanuts you know. They are not just going to had over Spyro and Crash because they were on the original Playstation.

Why do you think Nintendo only used Snake and Sonic and not Mega Man? Because to use a bunch of third party characters would cost a fortune. I mean how stupid can people be? Sony of course would use more of the characters that belong to them rather then spend millions just to use a third party character's own.Why do you think Nintendo dug up a bunch of characters basically no one remembers?
