Left 4 Dead is an co-op arcade shooter with zombies. DAYZ is a survival game/mod, where human encounters tend to be more dangerous than the zombies. The only similarity is that they both have zombies. The gameplay and direction are completely different, so you can't really even compare the two.

I've never played DayZ, but from the basic info I heard about it of being a 'realistic' zombie game of survival and potential betrayal of other humans where it's to fight for yourself and whatnot.

I like it. Reminds me a 'Little' about Diablo 2, before Diablo 3 took a shit all over the whole Hostility thing being removed.

I do know that once upon a time the PS3 could handle UT3 mods with literally little to no conversions issues. So if the original title based on DayZ is already running on the system it should too.

I know some people aren't really into PC's but just to give everyone a heads up, Arma 2 will never run on a PS3 or any console unless you want to browse the most complicated user interface with a controller and play a slideshow.

I know 360 and PS3 obviously can't run it but to say it will never come to a console is stupid. PS3 has mouse and keyboard support and I think PS4 will to. So that complicated interface you are talking about would be no different then a PC players.

I highly doubt anyone would make a console game ONLY playable with a keyboard and mouse. That's why Arma 2, or any Arma game, will never show up on consoles. There are so many keys, but a lot of them actually do something useful, and the controls can't be condensed to a controller.

Now for a DayZ retail spin-off not based on Arma 2, that would make more sense. And that could work on a controller. But I still don't see that as something likely to happen.

Arma is not even possible on consoles, how do you expect to play a mod for it on a console? They will need to find a way to port Arma first. If you really want to play the game get a PC.

No it really isn't even possible. For one, scaling the world down defeats the purpose of Arma (and DayZ for that matter). There's also a lot of computing that is done like ballistics and other realistic physics, AI etc. because Bohemia Interactive are after all the developers of a similar engine that they sell to the Military.

Seriously, believe me when I say it, Arma 2 will never run on consoles (at least this gen)... ever.

It's not the absolute size of the world that's an issue, it's how much of that world has to be actively processed. Games like Just Cause 2 and Skyrim work because AI and physics are mostly restricted to a relatively small local area, often much smaller than the total amount of visible terrain. Also, the number of AI agents and physics objects are usually tightly controlled to maintain performance.

ArmA II can't do any of that without changing the nature of the game itself. It's focus is on large-scale, realistic warfare. It has to allow for a large number of enemy and friendly AI's, and for greatly varying number of active physics objects, and it has to do all that for a large area. Taking any of that away reduces the dynamism of the world, which is the whole point in ArmA.

I'm sorry but it can be done, its up to the developers to do it and find away to do it. We seen alot of games that us to be PC only come to console, you just might be scare that it might do better on console and they would support PC less (Which seems to happen alot with more games that were PC only).

MAG's player count says hello. Obviously Arma 2 on PC can run with far better graphics however scale and player count wouldn't be the issue.

I played the crap out of MAG but the only reason they can have that scale is cause the graphics and animation were not very good. Player count and scale would be a problem. If it wasn't we would have 64 players and the same size maps for consoles as PC players have on Battlefield 3.

It would be cool if ps3 players got access to this mod, but Arma 2 has a control scheme that would almost be impossible to port over to a controller. Now, they could make it to where you had to use a keyboard. That would work. But even before any of that you would need to get the engine to run on a ps3 which, because of a number of reasons, is near impossible.

My first reaction after reading the title to the "article" was a resounding LOL. Why in the world would you compare an arcady fps to a full fledged military simulator and pretend like one is better than the other.

They're not even in the same universe. The only thing that loosely resembles the two is that they happen to have zombies.

Games are software designed to play to a certain hardware configuration. As such they are configurable to any other hardware configuration by simply modifying or adding some codes. We've seen it's done countless of times before. It's not impossible and we all know it. It's the decisions from the publishers to ensure which certain games should be exclusives and which are to be multi-platformed, not simply the hardware alone.

The most perfect example is The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition- originally a PC exclusive, modified for X-Box360 and CDP is probably learning how to modify it again for the PS3 as we speak. Another example would be Crysis.

For those who want Day Z for their consoles...there are tons of consoles exclusives that PC gamers would love to play with their machines. Uncharted, The Last of Us, Halo series, God of War series, Gears of War series, Red Dead Redemption, Bayonetta, Gran Turismo, Starhawk, Ace Combat and a few others.

There are a lot of multi platform games out there but what the article is asking for is that one of the few remaining PC exclusive games should be ported for the PS3. Asking something from someone without giving anything back is kinda rude. Maybe one of PS3's own exclusives in return for Day Z perhaps. Out of goodwill.

DayZ is a mod and ArmA II developers said they'll never go consoles probably because they max out PC hardware and going backwards is like failing to them.
