It seems we're hearing about 3D less and less. Was it even mentioned at any of the major E3 conferences this year? I can't recall it if it was. This used to plague the front of our gaming news sites and be plastered on the front of all of our favorite games, hell, Sony even released a TV specifically for it, but now, it seems as if the trend is dying off. I'm not sure if dying is the right word. Cementing? Dissipating? Drifting away into a sea of gaming gimmicks to forever be forgotten?
61% of Britons blame video games for outward expressions of violence.
3D gaming is something that is always a hot topic of debate. Many of the heated arguments about the subject always involve the state and necessity of 3D gaming to the industry. The general consensus is that 3D in gaming has not reached a point in creative execution or application that has made it a significant impact on the games we play. This is mainly due to a number of reasons that have prevented 3D gaming from becoming hugely popular with the general public or having added something significant to the experience we get from the games we all play. With all the commercialization of such products like the 3DS, 3D displaying tvs, and games that have options to display in 3D; it is necessary to know and understand the real issues behind 3D gaming's stagnation and why 3D gaming is not where it needs to be in the games industry.
Right now using 3-D in games lowers the frame rate, and sometimes the games that use 3-D already have a lousy 30fps, 3-D takes them down to like 15fps.
Also, glasses suck, people who wear glasses don't want to wear glasses over glasses, and it gives a lot of people a headache with even 20 or 30 minutes of use.
Lastly, they throw it in on games and movies that don't need it in the least, it gains nothing. So its a waste of money.
honestly..
it boils down to 1 thing..
the price..
if it's too expensive (relative to the consumers needs) then no one is gonna buy it except a few willing to take the leap and with the extra cash to toss around..
hell..Blu-rays were selling for sometimes double a regular dvd's price..
now they're just as cheap as regular dvd's all within a matter of years...
As an owner of both active and passive 3D, 3DS, and everything in between, What I learned is the technology gets better over time. I really wished I waited. The price has never been bad, what I paid for my LG 5600 they are now selling the Google version that does everything, including even better looking 3D. All 3D is not equal. Still waiting for CES to hear more about Ultra-D. That's next best thing to holographic tv's.
I think 3D gaming can be something amazing, but I feel that the support of 3D gaming is near its end. When the next gen consoles come out and Microsoft offers the next step beyond regular 3D gaming making your room augmented reality via the X-ban glasses there will be no need for such a primitive feature.

Back in early 2010 the first affordable 3D TV’s started to roll out of the manufacturing line and into the retail stores. We didn’t know it at the time but the 3D movement was set up to fail from the start and so was 3D gaming.
I just don't find a better experience with 3D gaming. That's the only reason why I don't care for it.
Well i cant stand 3D games and movies! For me the quality of the picture dispay in 3DHD in movie theaters dont have the same color deep has the normal digital HD picture without 3D,in 3D the picture and frame looks washed, not to mentions that it takes more or less 15 to 20 minutes until your brain and eyes get fully adapt to 3D display image. In games i really dont like it.And 3D with glasses will never stick.
I like 3D gaming! It enhances the experience IMO. Which one is more immersion though, Motion gaming or 3D gaming?
Since I bought NVidia's 3D Vision, there are certain games that I simply refuse to play in 2D. Racing games, Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5, Assassin's Creed, World of Warcraft, Diablo 3... Playing them in 2D is like closing one eye.
Not necessarily, I think it has made it's mark as a optional feature for gaming like voice chat. It's a way to enhance the experience. I dislike the 3DS 3D screen sometimes especially outside. The sunlight makes it really hard to see the image even with 3D off!
It never really started on consoles, they lack the processing power. The only 3D games that didn't look jaggy and low res were Crysis and Crysis 2 and apparently they weren't true 3D, whatever that means.
It hard to enjoy the 3D when the game looks and runs terrible but when it works it definitely adds a lot to the immersion imo.
3D always hurts my eyes, but I'm a pussy.
In games like Batman AC it is a welcome addition. If implemented well it really adds to the experience.
That said, I still think it's overpriced (I bought my 3D setup at great prices though).
