Five games to see you through the 2012 summer drought

GamerZines writes: "The summer is more famously known in the game’s industry as downtime. With a heavy spring release schedule behind us and a overwhelming behemoth of holiday releases brewing, summer is a time where triple A releases are almost no where to be seen.

But don’t put down your controllers just yet as we’ve chosen five of our most anticipated summer releases selected on the basis that they’ll keep you gaming all summer long."

I do not understand why studios are so opposed to realeasing blockbuster games in summer... I mean, no one else is doing it, and they could get huge amounts of sales, simply because people need something to play in the 2 months they have off

But dev's love crowding games at the very end of the year. AC3, Hitman, Halo 4, BO2, etc are all out in october-november

I mean, I feel like if dev's sold games in Summer, they would have more sales than later on in the year

khan_saab4329d ago

the reason why is because they only the hardcore of the hardcore will buy games in the summer because the casual market is busy going vacations and to cottages etc... in the holiday you get people who dont know much about games buy them. i went to eb games and over there is saw a line of 4-5 senior citizens buy call of duty. chances are they were getting it for some kid.

I'd figure they've already tried/thought-of it.
But since most of the shopping gets done at the end of the year, and likely nets them the bigger profits.

Summer is usually the time to get the games you missed for cheap... or catching up on your backlog.

The best thing you can do is sign up for the gamefly trial by being recommended by a friend and it'll be $17 for 3 months of gamefly. It'll get you through the whole summer and you can catch up on your backlog.

PM/ask me for more information if you want. It's perfect for the summer video game drought. $17 for 3 months of unlimited games.

Darksiders 2!! unfortunetly it has been delayed.

Man, all the release dates for downloadable games (that aren't in the summer of arcade) are up in the air.

Spelunky xbla? Joe Danger the movie? Mark of the ninja? Rock band blitz?

That's the thing I find most infuriating about downloadable games; release dates. Mostly because they barely mean anything as they're getting pushed all the time and downloadable games take longer than boxed games to come out.

Gravity Rush is an example of gaming as art, fun as heck, and unlike anything before it. Definitely should be on any gamer's list -- casual and hardcore alike.

pandaboy4330d ago

summer drought lol, as if there isn't already enough games to play.

da_2pacalypse4330d ago

lol my backlog is slowly decreasing. But there is at least 5-8 games I have left to play.

PS. Not sure why Dragon's Dogma is not on this list. I'm enjoying the hell out of Dogma right now. It's fantastic!

Psychotica4330d ago

I got tons of games that I have barely scratched the surface on because some other new game would come out shortly after and distract me.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil3d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai3d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing693d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle3d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal3d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa3d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal2d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

watching the video is better then going through 31 pages of gamingbolt.

LG_Fox_Brazil149d ago

Do they explain in the video why there are two numbers 3? Starfield and Tears of the Kingdom?

It's always refreshing to see games embracing the streaming community.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection - Preparing for Snake Eater Remake

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection launched in 2011, and is still the best way to play Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater ahead of the remake.

contra157308d ago (Edited 308d ago )

Can’t wait to one day break that game out of the collection vault

aaronaton308d ago

Currently playing Snake Eater HD on CRT 16:9, via Scart RGB. Game looks great but not as clean as MGS2, but thats due to the setting. Can't wait for the remake + the next HD collection on PS5.
