OXCGN:
"Taken at a glance, you’d have to think that E3 2012 would be a great showing for fans of the stealth genre.
A new Splinter Cell? Hitman? Assassin’s Creed? Metal Gear game?
That would have to be enough for anyone, right?
Yet as stealth games, each title featured a number of failings."
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has been out of action for a decade, so it's time to look back at 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
Sam Fisher is evidently the most skilled stealth operative because no-one has seen him in his own game for years
The entire mark and execute system belonged in another game.
It’s cool, but the polar opposite to how Sam Fisher initially handled.
The original trilogy made shooting very, very difficult, yet a viable option, which ultimately motivates stealth.
The mark/execute system makes shooting stupid easy, to the point of why would you even bother trying stealth as an alternative?
The sad part is that I actually really enjoyed the last game, Blacklist. It may have lacked the iconic voice but the gameplay was excellent, and blended stealth, action and a mix really great compared to most games, where none of the three options felt like the wrong way to play. I really hope they either produce a remake of the original game or a proper sequel.
Non-playable characters in certain games are meme material, thanks to their foolish behavior. These are the big-budget games with the dumbest NPCs.
Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩
Every Bethesda game and Every Halo game. This list needed to have Cyberpunk somewhere.
Here are the most peaceful areas in games that are otherwise quite violent, offering players respite from chaos in the game world.
My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.
Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.
The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.
I sooo wanted to see Thief 4. I've been waiting so long for that game: a genuine stealth game.
I'm not opposed to action as such, but I think stealth games should replicate what MGS4 did and provide options: go stalker style or action, but it is harder that way.
The stealth genre is dead because of studios wanting casual success
*Looks at Splinter Cell:Blacklist*
Yup.
Has anyone considered that maybe the new games aren't meant to be stealth games any longer? Perhaps instead having stealth elements?
How is Hitman abandoning anything? Just don't use the point shooting mechanic! Simple as that.
