E3 2012: Metal Gear Rising Devs Throw Move & Kinect Under the Bus, Hilarity Ensues

David Rodriguez writes, "Earlier today at E3, Q&A sessions were held with developers of Konami’s upcoming title, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The developers present were Executive Director/Producer Atsushi Inaba of Platinum Games, Creative Producer Yuji Korekado of Kojima Productions, and Associate Producer – who also doubled as translator – Sean Eyestone of Konami.

One brave journalist in the room decided to ask if Move and Kinect support would be added to the game in a future patch. The developers were more than happy to field the question…with one of their own, check out the clip below for the room’s reaction:

just wish they hadn't called it metal gear then maybe i could accept it better. for me metal gear games come with a certain level of expectations and this isn't close.

SKUD4333d ago (Edited 4333d ago )

I agree. However, gamers just can't live without sequels. No matter how bad they are. Case in point resident evil and silent hill. Metal gear franchise came to an end. Its been a great ride. Lets keep it that way. Games like this borrowing the name only cheapens the legacy. Even the handheld versions.

aaron58294333d ago

But i loved Peacewalker ... :(

wolokowoh4333d ago

@aaron5829 Well Peace Walker HD is on consoles too now. Maybe he meant Metal Gear Acid. Metal Gear prequels should continue until the gap in between Peace Walker and the original is filled. We know Big Boss was building up his forces during and post Peace Walker but there's this huge gap where things could be explained that have been left somewhat unclear in the MGS games. I'd love another game starring Big Boss because MGS3 and PW are two of my favorite games

bangoskank4333d ago

Dude, this isn't a sequel, it's a spinoff, and looks like an excellent one at that. Some of us prefer frenetic action to convoluted nonsense and hours worth of cut scenes.

YxUxNO4333d ago

@bangoskank

Then maybe the Metal Gear series isn't for you? If you prefer frenetic action then perhaps Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and others might be suit your tastes a bit better. Metal Gear has never been about that kind of gameplay. Although this game does look decent, I agree with Soljah 100%. ATM it's just not living up to what I feel a Metal Gear game should be, I hope I'm dead wrong about it though.

bangoskank4331d ago

@yxuxno

I've played every Metal Gear game since the NES days so I'd say it's for me. I am able to accept change and not get all pissy when Raiden gets his own spinoff title, unlike some fanboys. If you guys don't like it then go hide in a locker and look at Asian pin-up models.

First people bitched about it being called Metal Gear SOLID.Then KP changed it to Metal Gear Rising and now everyone is bitching about it being called Metal Gear. Just get over it, they changed it already enough, if it was to be called just Rising, Revengeance or something people couldn't identify it belonging to the MGS series. And after all it really looks promising to me, even if I wasn't fan of the VGA trailer, E3 one really restored my hope. This is the ninja game MGS fans have wanted since MGS1 and it plays just like I'd expect it to play.

humbleopinion4333d ago

Actually, so far it plays much better than what I came to expect from a Metal Gear game, at least according to demos - no more humping the floor between cutscenes. Platinum games truly know how to make badass games.

Andreas-Sword4332d ago

Metal Gear Rising looks like the biggest shit since 2009!
The Gameplay stutters and wobbles, the graphics are bad and shitty.
They killed the Metal Gear franchise!
Metal Gear Rising looks like a low quality Ninja Gaiden clone!

Hayabusa 1174333d ago

God, why is the world full of so many f cking divas...?

So you're not going to buy an amazing game because of it's name. Well done. Pat yourself on the back. Your retarded logic is unequaled.

turgore4332d ago

Frankly, this is Kojima's call, not yours.

hilarious clip. Man some of you guys are a buzz kill, comment your thoughts about the clip and not what you wish for what the game should've been or how it's gonna be.

WildArmed4333d ago

haha exactly what I was thinking. It was funny who the devs reacted when the translator translated it to the devs.

It's become pretty clear that Move and Kinect don't really mix with "core" games.

MoveTheGlow4333d ago

The timing on that was amazing!

"...Nnnno!"

And millions of gamers nodded their heads.

I still don't see why people are so upset about this game. I always wanted to play a Metal Gear game as Ninja Cyborg Raiden. Especially after seeing him action in MGS4.

Can someone explain to me why this game is getting so much hate?

AznGaara4333d ago

People don't like change. Even if its clearly a spin-off. Someone messing with their beloved franchise makes them mad. Funny. We can complain about how Call of Duty is the same every year but when a game seems just a bit different in franchises like Final Fantasy or Metal Gear, people lose it.

I for one am extremely excited for this game. Just beat Bayonetta and am now working on Vanquish. Both great games and thus I have complete faith in Platinum Games.

MRMagoo1234333d ago

I dont complain about COD being the same every year i wish it was the same as COD4 every year instead of the crap they keep adding thye ruined the game with all the stuff they keep putting in it.

AznGaara4333d ago

Okay but your still proving my point. You want every new COD game to be the same a COD4. Hense you not liking change.

EverydayGuy4333d ago

Prob not being a true MGS game and a spin off with Raiden. I'm personally thrilled to see what the collaboration brought to the game. You have the mind of Kojima for the story and the gameplay of Platinum Games. Sound like a perfect mix for Raiden.

Urbz78704333d ago

Ppl hate on this games cause it has nothing to do with Metal Gear, Snake is not the main character, it's a hack and slash game instead of a tactical sneaking game(hence the tactical espionage on other metal gear games), its a game about Raiden, itz not a ps3 exclusive and Platinum Games is making it. These ppl are complete sell out and will eventually buy the game anyways.

stragomccloud4333d ago

I don't understrand all the hate for Platinum games anyway.... They brought us Okami(under their formaer studio name "clover"), Bayonetta, Madworld, and Vanquish. These guys are pretty cool in my book.

Bleucrunch4333d ago

@ Urbz1988....I can honestly say that I am a Metal Gear Fan that Will NOT buy this game...I do not hate Platinum games because they are just doing their jobs. Their are going to be gamers that like this concept and will buy it and I can't hate on that I mean I was one of the few that LOVE the first Magna Carta on PS2. I do not like spin offs such as these but that is my opinion on the matter. I also feel because Kojima studio is developing the game and Kojima himself is not deeply involved that this game will just be ok at best and not the sheer excellence that was the other projects he worked on.

J86blum4333d ago

Guess you have not played a Metal Gear game since PS1 if those are your reasons to hate it. Your loss.

BitbyDeath4333d ago (Edited 4333d ago )

Raiden has been hated ever since he first appeared in MGS2.

This is like Cleavland from Family Guy getting his own TV show.
Some might like it but seriously WTH?

Deadpool6164332d ago

So it's because of the Raiden hate and action gameplay instead of tactical espionage. I'm guessing people are iffy about the story as well. I'm starting to get the picture.

I guess it's just personal taste. Just be glad it doesn't effect the main series and revisions everything about Metal Gear.

Metal Gear Solid Can Work Without Hideo Kojima

There are more good non-Kojima Metal Gear games than one would realize. Scientifically, three examples prove a trend, and in this feature are three excellent Metal Gear games that Hideo Kojima did not direct.

I hope so, still cant forget MGS Survive , the first MGS game without Kojima involvement and it was a complete failure, the thing is Kojima way of thinking is outside the box and that's why their games 99% end up unique, original and a almost instant classic. MGS series are full of intricate things that somehows connects to each other, Lalulilelo, the Patriots, Outher heaven, Foxhound, PMCs , heck even Kojima manage to insert DARPA in there lol, a US government Defense Agency. So is really great MGS3 Remake is reviving the series but without Kojima who knows of the end result, I hope Konami have another or more developers insight their studios who can also think outside the box.

senorfartcushion319d ago

It actually can’t. But it won’t matter.

Kojima is Metal Gear the same way that Christopher Nolan is The Dark Knight, or David Lynch is Twin Peaks: The Return episode 8. Artistry is the creation of a thing from your own thoughts and feelings. Take away the original artist’s thoughts and feelings and you have a new thing entirely.

This isn’t going to stop the mega corporation creating a fake version and spending millions TELLING customers that it’s made with the same thoughts and feelings. The masses will buy the idea the same way the corporation will sell the idea.

just_looken318d ago

I guess everyone forgot metal gear solid rising was tossed to platnium games with a story script and that is it.

Z501318d ago

Kojima was involved in Rising tho

just_looken317d ago

kpjima just did the story everything else was platnium games look it up.

Hence i said script

neutralgamer1992318d ago

i think the bigger issue is whether or not Konami is actually interested in fully funding AAA games development. Even this remake is done by a studio not really known in gaming industry. Quality remake/projets vs cheap cash in quick releases. Which way will Konami head. I am a huge MGS fan and i feel like Kojima did long time MGS fans dirty with how made MGS5 and it's story elements

senorfartcushion318d ago

Remakes and remasters provide a gateway through to producing AAA games faster and cheaper.

RaveTears318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Actually MGS Portable Ops which was technically the first canon MGS game that Kojima wasn’t mainly involved with it. Kojima was only the producer but not the writer and director.

Konami did other MGS spin off that were successful but that because Konami put effort. Just along Konami is not lazy and cash grab, they can a MGS game without Kojima.

i mean sure, but he made it the thing it is today and why people love it so much.

i think its not easy to replicate.

Flawlessmic319d ago

I doubt it could.

Say what you want about the bloke, but his games are uniquely his.

I don't think anyone makes games like kojima does, for better or worse.

Could mgs continue without him, yea maybe, but it would lacking his genius so wouldn't be the same.

Soulsborne319d ago

Well , he already created it. They just have to recreate it? Not like its a new concept or IP. Trash article.

Yes. It only needs motivated clever people.

Why We Need Metal Gear Rising 2

Demand for a sequel is about to skyrocket, like the good ol' days of 2013!

In case you're living under a suspiciously rock-shaped object, the recent PlayStation Showcase revealed that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 will be coming, alongside a Master Collection of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3. While it is a remake of an existing game, there's a great deal of significance to it, considering the last time a game in the series came out was back in 2018 with Metal Gear Survive (and the less said about that, the better). Konami's decision to pull a Konami and feud with series creator Hideo Kojima has long left the fate of Metal Gear uncertain, but this recent announcement has led to all bets being off as to where Metal Gear can go from here.
