Ascend: New Gods Is Xbox 360's God Of War

Microsoft let loose a number of new game titles at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo and one of the titles really stood out. No, let me rephrase that, Signal's Ascend: New Gods was a show-stealing masterpiece and is a legitimate AAA exclusive that gives Xbox 360 gamers a God of War type experience.

I'm not going to waste a lot of words trying to desperately convince people that this is going to be a rocket-busting title. Instead, I'll let the following debut trailer for Ascend do all the convincing.

I dont think anyone is calling it a GOW killer but more of a game that draws inspiration from GOW and made for those who only own a 360.

This game is being made by a small studio who make XBLA games and rumors have it that it suppose to MS first stab at the free to play market.

I am really liking what I see and dont see much similarities between GOW and this apart from the Greek mythology and the name Gods - but you can tell that the developers are big fans of GOW.

Who even thought to compare this to God of War. The only thing they have in common from what I've seen is their titles.

This looks more like a mediocre action RPG. A poor man's Dark Souls or KofA:R. Seeing how it's developed by a small studio that's more understandable, but this is no God of War.

Doesn't really look anything like God of War IMO. It remind me more of a mix between Darksiders and Demon's Souls, brought down a notch or two, and obviously limited by being an XBLA game instead of full retail.

I know Darksiders is similar to GoW, but my point in saying this looks more like that than GoW is the slightly more bulky character, a slower and shorter feeling of range to the attacks, and overall lesser quality level.

It doesn't sound like the article is hyping it as a God of War killer but instead saying that it offers a comparable experience. It also kind of reminds of Demon Souls and Dark Souls online. There's a silhouette of what I'm guessing is of another player. Also near the end of the video it seemed like another player "invaded" the current players world. All in all the game looks promising!

Dantes Inferno was a very good and underrated game - cant wait for part 2 as the ending left you with a cliff hanger with the adam and eve thing.

Nothing really can top God of War in epic scale without trying too hard. Others that have tried just make it too over the top where it just seems SO cheesy it becomes boring.

I wouldn't say Dantes Inferno was better than any God of War game I played, but it was a damn awesome game in its own right. I really got pulled into the game and had a blast with it. Hope they make a 2nd game!

Well its an exclusive, Journalist's and anylists looked passed this new Ip as well as Loco Cycle and Matter. The whole entire presser E3 were too busy rippin MS apart and looked passed other games they announced. Now that's a definition of "Shady Journalism"

What are journalists supposed to say about them? That there's some XBLA game about a futuristic looking motorcycle coming out next year? Since they showed nothing at all besides that motorcycle..

That there's going to be an XBLA Kinect game called Matter that we also know nothing about, but likely involves rolling a marble (orb) across a level? Possibly while dodging obstacles and being chased?

I don't care about "copies." PS All Stars is obviously influenced by SSB. Ascend is obviously influenced by GOW. As long as the game is good, though, who cares? Honestly, I was just glad- and surprised- to see a new core IP out of Microsoft; I really wasn't expecting anything from them.

Wreckateer looks like it could be fun, but I'd enjoy it a whole lot better if it WEREN'T Kinect. Or Move, or Wii, for that matter. But I can really see kids having fun with it.

LocoCycle and matter had ZERO gameplay; LC's trailer hardly even told you anything about what the game will be like. We know the bike's a female, and we know she's pretty good at what she does... whatever it is she does. That's it.

We can assume some things about matter from the trailer given, and EeJLP explains that below, so I'm not repeating it.

Four new IPs, three of them Kinect, none of them retail. Then there was Halo, Gears, and Forza. And multiplat stuff.

That's all the games there is. Not a lot to write about.

Kratos also has magic abilities and the Bow of Apollo. He can also blind you with the Head of Helios, which is basically the same as being invisible if the opponent is blind.

It's actually better, because not only can your opponent not see you.. they can't see anything. Can't see they're going, can't see your footsteps in the mudd/water, etc. So I'd say Opponent being blind > being invisible in a 1on1 battle.

Just the sheer amount of damage that Kratos can do though and he also has a long range bow and magic. Don't get me wrong I love Ninja Gaiden and Ryu is a kickass ninja, but, Krato's came back from hell and killed gods. I kind of doubt Ryu could come back from the kind of stuff Kratos went through.
