Vita Misconceptions

My attempt to explain why gamers are bashing the Vita.

Because it's Sony... Just like how people bash Xbox because it's Xbox... Lol, we're all haters in some way or another. The Vita is the most amazing handheld I've ever gotten to use. Having gone through each and every one since that brick of a Gameboy. I don't care about people bashing it for any reason because it really doesn't matter when it's as great as it is.

But for me - its value (at its current price) isn't. I'm mean, technological speaking - it's a great deal, but no flash memory, and proprietary SD cards? The 3DS comes bundled with 4gigs (2gigs of flash, and a 2gig SD card), a couple of AR cards, NDS playback, and pre-installed software, and consumers still believed that the device was priced out of its range. Now I'm not knocking Vita (far from it), I'm just trying people that all consumers see the device (Vita) in the same light as the rest of us (gamers) do, same goes for the 3DS.

I have a Vita, I don't regret my purchase but it need more exclusive/original games. I am tired of HD console ports because I will obviously play it on my PS3.

Gravity Rush is the type of experience I want on Vita. Maybe a new Loco Roco and Patapon using Vita's capabilities?

Nobody is bashing the Vita, just saying it need more games.

because back then it was expensive , with a 3d gimmick that pretty much everyone touted disabling to play comfortably .

And it didnt feel like a big enough jump , at first graphically wise .

It wasnt either a comfortable mediaplayer ,even if it can do that .

meanwhile people were taken aback by basically the power of the ps3 in your palm , for cheaper than expected . And the initial appeal of 3g .

i'm not statement those things above were necessarily true , just that it's was for many the perception of it back then .

Now personally , i still feel the vita is a more interesting machine hardware wise , while looking forward to both consoles' future games offering .

Only reason i dont have yet a 3ds , since it's now farily priced , would be region locking . This will force me to own two set of 3ds at least , and i'm not yet ready to spend that

people bash things that which they dont have themselves. Until they get one and then their perception changes. I used to see it all the time back in the genesis/snes days.

It has been the same for pretty much each console generation. People bashed the ps3/360/wii until they themselves got one and found that all the bad mouthing really wasnt warranted.

I will admit that I am a 360 fan first and ps3 fan second. That was just how I got them. I poked fun at the ps3 at first because of the misguided ways of sony marketing. I then got one myself and found it to be a great platform.

I dont yet have a vita but Im getting one soon enough. It is a great piece of tech and (to me) the majority of the bashing comes from its selection of software in the face of the ever growing popularity of tablet/phone gaming. Heck...even the 3ds (which is doing better) is facing a similar situation. It is being bought by parents for their kids instead of being bought by the parents for themselves.

Tablets/phones are offering a convenience to those adults who have one and like to entertain themselves with a game or two. The games may not be in the same league as a dedicated gaming platform but you look at the people using them and you will see they represent the majority of the non-gaming public (some would call them casuals).

Does that mean the vita is crap because it doesnt sell to them??? Not in the least. It just means sony didnt forsee the possible shift in portable entertainment. It is a core product in a not so core market.

Or if looked at it from another perspective. The portable market used to be dedicated to the core gamer until it was overrun by the convenience that is smartphones/tablets allowing people the opportunity to play games at their leisure without shelling out the $$$ for a dedicated unit.

No no, I get what you were trying to say. The price of the better memory cards are quite outrageous and the main thing holding it back for a lot of people. At least that's what I think.

As a whole, The Vita is by far "THE BEST HANDHELD EVER" up to this point. And yes the price may be too expensive for some but it doesnt mean its not worth it. Like saying a Porsche is wack because its too expensive and I cant afford it. Once the price drop on the Porsche I may consider it being worth it.

IDK, I'm not a sony basher or an Xbox fanboy, but When I was playing Uncharted 3 at Bestbuy, a lady walked up to me and showed me the Vita. However, I just was not interested and continued to play Uncharted 3.

the biggest psp games arent god of wars. They are monster hunter games which started life on the ps2, which also like pokemon share rpg elements.

also metal gear has its own games on the psp.

There are really no difference in the games Nintendo puts out on their platforms.

They simply make games established on consoles with a different spin on handhelds. To ignore what star fox, zelda ocarina of time are is blindness.

This is no different than Sly or jet set radio on the vita.

Its simple really. Sony platforms always tend to cost more than the alternative.

Look the vita is a brand new platform and it already has more original ips than the 3DS which has been on the market for over a year. I could be wrong, but i dont see how littledeviants,soundshape,grav ity rush,sumoni, soul sacrafice, and a Slew of others are in anyway console games.

Once vita goes down in price i am sure the sales will start to pick up, because the same case was for the 3DS.

oh i see. so no matter whether you make a puzzler, a platformer, a shooter, a point and click adventure, a music generator or any other genre you can think of, it will only ever be a level when made with LBP. what a pity this ignorance still persists. i could show you levels in LBP2 that you would have no idea they were made with LBP2. with LBPVita, that distinction will be broken even more.

Good points supremacy, I appreciate educated, non douchebag comments. I feel like the Nintendo handheld exclusives you mentioned (Zelda, Starfox) have a reason to exist as a portable game. The PSP God of War and Metal Gear games also come out as PS3 downloads and/or disc-based releases. Does this happen at Nintendo? Notice how "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" sticks to the Wii despite its success. I respect Nintendo for not trying to just put out that same game as a DS title. I also feel like the non-console, Vita exclusive games you mentioned pale in comparison to Pokemon, Zelda, and Starfox. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my humble opinions.

Noticed how yoshi's island on the Gba is the very same one found on the snes? Don't kid yourself, all these companies utilize the same strategies in slightly different manners.

If anything all Nintendo does is remake the same games but make them slightly different. Sony isn't doing anything different from Nintendo in this case.

The misconception here is that since its easier for developers to port their games than sit there and invest time and resources on new projects, many believe that its Sony's very own doing. They just cant say no, they need the support.

Sony is about games, no matter if they are ports or remakes or quirky games. I mean you got PlayStation suite, PlayStation pub and all these different endeavors they are involve in which bring forth a different variety of content to the table.

Sure, there's God of war and what not, but there are also new ips surfacing every year is almost hard to keep track at times. But whats laughable is the fact that all we read and gets talked about are the big name franchises that cross platform.

Thank god, sucker punch didn't stick to making sly games or naughty dog with jak and daxter and uncharted and instead are working on fresh concepts.

And you know what the funny part of all this is? That some of this content we don't have to wait for a whole year to get and yet we talk about the vita having no games as if the platform didn't launch with over 23 titles to begin with.
But like i said before don't let your judgment be clouded by the misconceptions of today's misguided perceptions.

Sony is as creative and if not in some cases even more so than its competitors vice versa.

At the end of the day, I suppose it would've been better if Sony had just trickled out games instead of releasing so many at launch since the barren following months gave the illusion that there were no games.

Plus, at least for me, the biggest plus in having console experiences or "gasp", ports of certain games on my Vita is that I can play these games anywhere. I don't have much time to sit in front of my PS3, but thanks to my Vita I can MLB the Show during lunch at work. I'm like five seasons deep into my pitcher's career in RTTS, I never used to get that far into a career in years past because I didn't have enough time. But now I can play my career mode anywhere.

I'll also likely be getting the FFX re-release on my Vita instead of my PS3 as well, since I love being able to play RPGs anywhere, which is another reason why I loved my PSP. Hopefully the rumored Kingdom Hearts HD remakes are true as well, since I'll likely pick it up for my Vita instead of my PS3 as well.

But let's face it, the biggest reason why the Vita getting bashed is that it's a Sony product. There's no way around that.

Where do you shop? Even if that's really a deal somewhere, it still isn't possible for games like MK that did not have coinciding release dates across both systems. Also, $80 is still a rip.

What a shame, some people can´t see this is the greatest gaming-handheld ever made.
We already got "exclusive content that is available nowhere else" with Gravity Rush, and more is on the way.

People are bashing the Vita because it has no games, just like they were bashing the 3DS when it had no games.

Also, I'm fearing that all of the Vita's best games will be ported to the PS3/PS4, since a lot of them use they exact same template as console games.
All of the PSP's best titles are got ported to the PS2/PS3.
This is less of a problem with the 3DS/DS where games use more platform specific concepts and are so technically different from home games that they would be difficult to port (although with the 3DS' near PS2 power we are starting to see some suspiciously port-ready games like Resident Evil Revelations).

People shouldn't forget that in Western markets, a lot of people who buy portable consoles actually rarely use them on the go.
So why buy a Vita if there are no games and the few that are there could be ported soon after to a system I already own?

agreed.. i dont want toned down ports either. gravity rush seems to be the only high profile new IP on it & it definitely needs more.. Hopefully E3 will show more on it & maybe we can get Soul Sacrifice localized real soon

The (GPS) doesn't work.

The only people "bashing" the vita are the people who dont own one.

99% of the people who DO own it talk of how much they love it and dont regret buying it. I am one of those people.

I havent touched my ps3 since feb. 15th; thats a feat in itself. The psp never did. It just sat there and collected dust, just like my ps3 has been doing since the vita came out.

I love my vita, and its what ive been waiting for in a handheld for a long time.
Im sure many others feel the same.

Something people fail to see is that the Vita has several free games on the PSN for download. Everyone brings up the free stuff on 3DS, but forget it on Vita. So weird...

I remember the times the 3DS had no games except pilotwings? And ffs i had a 3ds at launch...
Then we got a remake of the best zelda ever ( however, it is still a remake)

Now everyone is bashing the vita because it has ports or remakes / sequals... I people who not have a vita are jealous. I was also jealous when i was around the age of 15 when i had no money. I work full time and just finished my study. No i can buy every console and i am not a kid in a basement who cant afford a focking console.
