Hopefully there's some sort of survival mode for replay value. Imagine barricading yourself or just run for your life and survive! :)

Sorry for the late reply, by I totally agree. I'm getting a little tired of all these games with a "horde mode" where you just run around and kill until you die. It would be so cool if you could actually barricade yourself, as you said, and actually survive monster attacks and such.

Either way, I cannot wait for this game!

Wow, i'm surprised someone actually likes regenerating health. I personally think it is an awful system that should be iradicated.

There are times where the issue of "health" mechanics can work depending what they can do with it. Regeneration imposes a mandatory mechanic where the design would fall into a do/die scenario. Regen-health tends to have waves and waves of enemies surround you while the tactic is to heal up whenever possible (usually in a confined space).

On the other hand, health packs could push for a better sandbox approach to dealing with enemies since the tactic is to NOT get hit whenever possible. This paves way to more sophisticated AI (which according to previews, are documented in this game) because one doesn't simply stay "put" and wait till he/she has full capabilities to finish off whatever adversaries they bring.

Half-Life 2 and its episodes are a perfect example of a non-regenerative health system working in a modern FPS with tons of shooting and "enemy waves" segments.

And on Fallout 3, health was extremely abundant. Early on when stimpacks are hard to come by, drinking the water in sinks and toilets can bring your health back to max quickly. The small amount of radiation that builds up can be cleared up by RadAway, which is pretty cheap to buy. It's basically free health. Later on, you're basically rolling in stimpacks.

You look for health packs to survive. The same reason you go to a hospital when injured, apply ointment on burns and pills for whatever ails you.

Regenerative health works best with only certain types of games and mechanics, as mentioned by DigitalAnalog above.
You can't just go throwing a regen health system to every game ...smh

and it worked well for both of them... But ND already confirmed that The Last of Us would have a progressive health system where you'll have to find things to help heal you. They said that wounds if left untreat could get infected and cause more damage later. and that saving medicines will help augment your health down the line in the games progress! And this was all confirmed in the Game Informer preview they scored months ago! :-) i'm really excited for E3

Yeah, I personally think that RFoM had one of the best, if not the best, regenerative health systems this generation. That's why so many gamers were upset when they ditched it, among other things, in R2.

You should. We PS3 gamers welcome all newcomers. And with a fantastic back catalog at your disposal, at a bargain price, there's really no better time to jump in. Though I suggest waiting till E3 to see if there's a price reduction.
