DmC developer, Ninja Theory, has been getting a lot of hate from fans of the Devil May Cry series, but it seems like they just don't care.

to be fair, i was never a huge fan of the DMC series, over the top voice acting and characters made it just silly to me ... the action was good but not so god that i had to buy the game. The reboot i actually want to buy because it looks like theyre fixing what was wrong with the old one and making it appeal to a bigger crowd. Dinosaurs need to adapt. Reboots happen to widen the crowd the game appeals to.

i've never played a DmC game, but from what I saw in reviews the last few titles seemed to be lacking what the original offered. So MAYBE, they are just trying to refresh the brand. I dont full understand the character redesign, but hey...dont judge something until you've played it.

I have to agree. Heavenly Sword had a long developer cycle and as a result was expensive as hell to make. They blamed their own dumb budgeting decisions on being exclusive when Heavenly Sword easily sold in the millions which for most smaller third parties is nothing short of amazing. If they would have made a sequel they could have built on upon the established fan base sold well over a million and would be starting to establish a much larger fan base. Instead of building on an established IP that sold millions they made another new IP. Going multiplatform didn't help Enslaved sell as well as they hoped and they blamed it on people not buying it. I can tell you why everyone didn't buy it. The gameplay is not done very well, the game is short, it isn't the best looking game even just comparing it to Heavenly Sword, and the only real thing it has going for it is a story that while good isn't the best and doesn't appeal to everyone. Furthermore, the name is horrible, it had poor marketing, and the demo they released isn't exactly the best part of the game to make into a demo.They're lucky it sold as much as it did.

Don't get me wrong; DmC(different from DMC, mind you) could very well turn out to be a good game. But it's hardly a DMC game when they've taken away so many of the things that made the franchise iconic. The action doesn't look the same- which means it will mostly likely not feel the same- the atmosphere of the world has changed, and new Dante doesn't give off any of the vibe that made fans love old Dante.

DMC has four games over about ten years' time, and despite following the same general formula, they've each got a different feel to em. This game follows none of the formula, and according to the developers, was made solely for themselves.

Why would I spend my money on a game that wasn't even made for me? Why would I reward a developer that quite literally spat in my face about a beloved franchise?

Thank you for having some sense. I've had the same argument with RE:6, Killzone, and MGS4 when that was coming out. Anytime a dev/series tries to something fresh every fanboy in the galaxy cries foul about how they're ruining their franchise and deviating from the "formula" that was already set forth.

I for one don't judge games simply because I don't like the way the new character looks, or because it's not exactly the same as the last iteration. Seriously the way you guys argue it sounds like you'd prefer COD.

Don't write the game off simply because it's different. Praise Ninja Theory for attempting to deviate and not just carbon copy a successful franchise, and praise Capcom for allowing them to do so and not stifling their creativity with pressuring them to create another DMC3.

I see nothing wrong with the game, no glaring game mechanics mistakes, no graphical issues, and from what I've seen a solid new spin on the lore of the series. If you want to play the old games well the old games are there. The few gamers who are okay with companies taking a leap here and there to find something new will gladly enjoy this game while you idiots don't.

Remember this, they said MGS4 would fail because it was too action-y, they said the Kingdom Hearts franchise would never take off because the premise was too childish, they said no one would go for Majora's Mask after the masterpiece of Ocarina of Time. I personally think everyone should calm the hell down. The new Dante is NOT Emo and that is beyond clear, we all know that. He still has his bad-ass attitude, his smart ass comments, and has his trademark moves along with his new ones. I don't know about you guys, but when I see Dante have a MOUNTAIN-Rock thrown at his body and he SHRUGS his shoulders to dodge it in the gameplay trailer, the first thing that comes to mind isn't Emo, it's actually incredibly manly and awesome. People are complaining way too much. This is another view from another artists perspective, that's what he's been trying to say this entire time, it's his right to do so. It's good to change things sometimes, in fact this doesn't even mean it's "changed" the actual Story/concept.. it's just an alternate reality or different take on DMC, so I think it's time for the majority of you to get over it.. I have decent faith in these guys, I think they'll pull it off really well. I certainly enjoyed the action sequences shown in the trailer during boss encounters.

The atmosphere, gamemplay and main character of the franchise have been completely changed, this isn't a new art direction but a completely new game. A lot of people would've been happy if they'd never named it DMC to begin with.

I don't have problem with his hair being black or with the game fundamentally. It is stupid some seem to get hung up on that. I'm sure it'll be a decent game, but I do have a problem when all the facts are brought together. The game is set in an alternate timeline so why should fans care? The gameplay and visual style of the game so again this is starting to be too much change. Heavenly Sword, though it didn't make much money, has sold in the millions and they should have stuck with that, making a different story revolving around the sword and everything would have been fine. There is clearly a demand for it. When you read a story about Playstation All Stars and 56 out of 87 comments mention Heavenly Sword, you know there's at least a small group that would be all over a sequel but instead they complained about the game not making money instead opting to for another new IP. Tameem in particular is let's just say a sorry excuse for a human being who lacks the ability to empathize with fans. This particular interview can be seen as simply taken out of context but past comments cannot. Finally, this is NT here and their track record shows we can expect a pretty good story and decent gameplay and if Enslaved is an indicator more focus on story than gameplay, which is a small problem since DMC usually does the opposite.

All of this doesn't sit well with me as longtime fan. The questions are "How far do you have to deviate from the original formula before it's just something else entirely?" and "Have NT deviated that much?" There is still too much of the game not shown yet for anyone to answer these questions or be judging the game just yet. However, if what has been shown so far is an accurate indicator, then all DmC has in common with DMC is a chacter named Dante, the DmC branding, being in the same genre, and that poor excuse for a style meter.

Unlike you, I actually work in Game Development, and have been at several different Studios, including Rare. The people that work on the game itself, e.g. the programmers, artists etc. are not there to make as much money as possible. If they were, they'd be working in the Investment Banking sector, as that pays much more, and is much easier than Game Development.

Game Development is a competitive, underpaid industry, and for that very reason the people you'll find there are those that are passionate about what they do, not about the money that they earn.

Kinda reminds me of the overhaul that Rygar the Legendary Adventure got when it was ported over to the Wii. I hated the new look, it clashed with the atmosphere, the design of the other characters and story board segments (which reference the original character), but it all played out the same. For the record, I don't care about Dante's new look. I care about how I expect a DMC game to play. NT has yet to pull off a game that meets how DMC should play in my opinion. I loved Heavenly Sword, but it's not DMC, Enslaved was good, but it's not DMC. Both had comabt appropriate to their game, but neither is DMC.

I expect that they will have a great story (not that I'm a fan of switching mythos) but the action will be lacking. Combine that with a snotty dev and you've got the reason why I'm not shelling out for the newest DMC game.

Allow me to clarify, the combat isn't like DMC in speed. Heavenly Sword could have been faster (would have been better that way) Enslaved was dreadfully slow. If you've played DMC2, that's what either game's combat currently resembles. I'm basing it on their pedigree, and thus far, they have not shown the ability to do a fast action game. No their games haven't been DMC, but why hand it to NT when a studio like Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Vanquish) which has shown they can do fast good combat exists? It's a rather large risk for such an established franchise. So the point was, I don't believe hey can make a game as fast as DMC needs to be, and from demo videos so far, I've been right.

(That being said, demo videos don't mean much because it's not a final project. That's why I was willing to give it a shot. But if these loose lipped knuckleheads keep talking trash, I won't bother or get it used)

CoD is a different beast. CoD has fans and the Activision have not gone out of their way to insult their fans. Because of this CoD fans are always going to flock to their games till they are finally tired of them. Also the fact that FPS games are hugely mainstream and will always sell like hot cakes.

Capcom on the other hand have been disregarding their fans for the past few years. Continuously doing shady business practices such as locked DLC on Disk, The Cancellation of MML3, and the outsourcing of their titles. Also many fans feel that this reboot was unneeded and the fact that Ninja Theory has gone out of their way to insult the fan base has pissed many people off. Still, to this day, do they keep making fun of the fans about the early hair comments even though nobody cares about the hair. Even in-game they make a joke about the hair. Tameem knows that he has turned the fans away from this project because of his arrogance.

I like the way he talks and I agree it's best to pursue the game you want to make but when building on an existing series you really should have some fan service in there, even if it's just bits and pieces from the old games you need to build around certain standards or you wind up with FFXIII and Ninja Gaiden 3.

I'm not worried about Ninja Theory though, they can create a great story which is something Devil May Cry is in desperate need of, and with Capcom paying attention to the fighting mechanic I'm hopeful it will be the first game in a long time to both have "Capcom" on it and be good.

Also, western developers taking something western is probably better than japanese developers imitating what they think westerners are into. I like things to stay Japanese, but if it must happen this is a safer way.

In fact, his personality has wavered for every single game he was in, he's NEVER consistent with his attitude if you really pay attention to all 4 games. 3 and 4 are totally different from 1 and 2 don't you think?

Major franchises change key players all the time including the looks of the main character. Look at Infamous, Tomb Raider, The Prince Of Persia, and best of all Max Payne. He almost looks unrecognizable in my opinion, but the game will be great anyway.

He doesn't really look like Tameem either. I can see a similarity but he doesn't outright look like him to be honest. And Dante looks like a mix of Leon from RE4 (Dante was actually based on Leon since DMC1 was supposed to be RE4) and Tom Cruise.

Just looking at those two pictures Dante looks pretty much the same as he did when he was a teenager the first time to be honest. Just shorter black hair is all that's different with the new one. He honestly doesn't look bad in the new one, he looks pretty bad ass to me anyway.

The "fans" are getting a little out of hand with this in my opinion. Yes they changed the game up a lot, big deal. Some changes are for the best and it's not like you can't go back and play with the old Dante in the old games, you still can. Capcom gave them this game for a reason, they believe that they can do something incredible with this game and, from all of the previews I've seen of this game and from what previewers that have actually played the game and seen it in action have said, they are on the right track.

And no, developers aren't supposed to create games solely for the purpose of pleasing fans, how would that work exactly? Not all fans want the same thing, prime example here where you see that not EVERY single hardcore fan of DMC cares about the changes that were made, as long as the game is good. So how is it possible to make a game for ALL fans when not all fans think alike? A developers purpose in creating a game, first and foremost, is to create something that THEY love to play.

It's cool to cater to the fans when you can, and I trust that they have catered to the fans with this game from what I've seen of how Dante is in the game, but that's not what the end all be all of game designing is all about. Fans need to understand that they aren't developers and designers and that they don't always know what is best for the game even if they are fans of the game series. It's impossible to listen to everyone's reactions to what you've created and try to cater to them, it's best that you go with what you feel is the best thing to do and hope that people actually can appreciate what you have done.

I understand the fans getting upset at the changes, but give the game a chance before you just say "oh it's no good, it sucks! Tameem is stupid and he made the character look just like him!" You guys are all acting like children! I've only played a few minutes each of Heavenly Sword and Enslaved and that was enough for me. I'm not necessarily saying that they're a bad developer (I think that most developers are bad). They certainly catch your eye in screenshots and in the characters and themes of their games compared to the many dour games that there are but I felt no weight to the characters. It's like playing laser disc games from the early 90s. The beginning of Enslaved felt like a rip off (with a twist) of Uncharted. I think that I'd feel less sense of linearity in Dragon's Lair.
