How Killzone 4 can make up for Killzone 3

TVGB: . The Killzone franchise found its footing with an incredible second game, but the rather bland, me-too third attempt seemed to spoil all of that.

With a new game being rumoured for an E3 reveal, here’s a look at what the franchise needs to do to win back our hearts.

If killzone 2 and 3 switched orders then everyone would say the complete opposite.
People don't know what they want these days.

Electro_UK4362d ago

Actually, as someone that liked the original Killzone, it was disheartening to find the franchise veer off in a different direction to what had been established in the first two games.

Nostalgia4362d ago

Oh c'mon what was so different about KZ3?
The only thing it changed was the heavy sprinting and made it a bit lighter.
It was just as good as KZ2 no better, no worse.

Abash4362d ago

I love Killzone 3. All the classes and weapons were fun to play as, the maps were great and I had a blast exploring them, and the brutal melee kills never got old

I feel like Im taking crazy pills sometimes because I love Killzone 2 but I love Killone 3 even more

archemides5184362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

they changed EVERYTHING in killzone 3, your person was "shrunk down" even more completely changing the lines of sight and feeling of the maps (just compare the kz2 map remakes to the originals). the camera was also zoomed in so the peripheral vision was more cut off , and when you turned, your view felt like you were looking from the gun nose of a tank, not the central position. this completely changes the fundamentals of the game, and when you add in the COD-wannabe movement speed, it may as well be another game. also the menus were absolutely HORRID and an utter eyesore. PLEASE GO BACK TO KILLZONE 2 STYLE

also the framerate was worse, and it was close to a problem in kz2 as it was

KeiserSosay47884362d ago

@Nostalgia

It was worse for KZ2 fans. GG stupidly thought that giving the sniper class infinite invisibility with the ability to have a one shot sniper rifle along with an SMG that's just as good as the AR was a good idea. During the Alpha for KZ3, all the testers complained of this and when it switched to beta. It was same. Players continued to complain about how the classes abilities were getting ridiculous and then the game came out AND IT WAS STILL THE SAME. The only things better about KZ3 were the melee, hit detection, better controls, and operations. They ruined the classes and the core gameplay all in one fell swoop. This is why most KZ2 fans didn't like the game.

Peppino74362d ago

Kz3 wasn't that'd bad of a game that Kz4 needs to "make up" for it. I think a lot of people are overreacting.

morganfell4362d ago

@Peppino7,

There are two groups hating KZ. There are those that will never be satisfied no matter what you give them. And then there are those that never played Killzone, any Killzone, that fear it and are determined to see the franchise fail at any cost.

Getowned4362d ago

Gameplay is way better in Killzone 3 then Killzone 2, KZ2 felt like work and not so much fun. Over all Im not a huge KZ fan but the KZ3 MP was fun but at the end of the day I would rather play BF3 or BC2 and the only thing BF3 and BC2 are missing for me is my beloved CTF!. Didn't like Killzones version of CTF lol.

Gaming1014362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

K2 had serious input controller lag, K3 reduced that significantly, allowed you to hold more than 2 lousy weapons, one of each class, it was great.

What Killzone haters can do to make up for being douchebags? STFU that's what

A-Glorious-Dawn4361d ago

I played KZ1 extensively online with my clan.

We played KZ2 extensively and loved it..

We play KZ3 to this day and love it as well.

We can adapt to minor changes (and they are minor) instead of bitching about having the game the way we want it...

The reaction to killzone changes is some of the wort I have seen in gaming. I remember a LOT of people complained about the weighty controls in KZ2.. Then KZ3 comes out and solves the issue, and then you have a bunch of people complaining about the responsive controls..

I say damn you all I hope the dev's stop listening to you babies.. I love KZ3 its a great game.. I hope GG do whatever they want with KZ4 I trust them..

TekoIie4361d ago

Being back class combinations!!!! That was awesome in KZ2 :D

gaffyh4361d ago

KZ3 was in no way a bad game, but I actually liked the weight of the guns and the momentum they had. It made the game feel different to other generic shooters, and I actually wish they didn't remove that weighty feel in hindsight.

It wasn't even a hindrance like a lot of the crying fanbabies said, easy to get used to. Of course, fanboys don't know the difference between a weighty feel and input lag, so they claimed it was input lag.

Baka-akaB4361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

Why the attitude from some here ? Is it that hard to understand that while KZ3 remains good , some kz2 fans werent as enthralled by the change ?

I wouldnt go as far as some idiots claiming it was noobified or turned into a cod clone , but i did prefer the feel of kz2 and its balance system . And they removed some stuff out of the blue in kz3 ... minor stuff but adding to the rest , i can see why some were dissapointed

Because of that change i'm afraid it will be resistance all over again . people gave up after kz3 despite it still being great , and might not come back for KZ4 , even if it was to bring back the whished elements

FFXI1014361d ago

See, I don't get why people hate it. I understand the fans want to see the game do better but hate it because the game did not play the way you want? that's stupid.

You can either adapt to it or simply go play something else. I love KZ 1,2 and 3, I will continue to support it and looking forward to the next Kill Zone game whether is on Vita or PS3.

killerhog4361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

coming from someone who exceptionally skilled in both kz2 and 3, and plays them both till this day, along with liberation. i can say, i prefer kz3 controls but kz2's gameplay. kz2 right now, proves that with the increase use of modded controllers a whopping 70% of people will be at a disadvantage and the controls will not work. playing kz2 this year, i see people doing perfect shots even from far away (lol at the perfect lmg shots as im running), i see people moving around faster than programmed (and definitely not because of the ability boost), im wasting my time trying to aim because if i aim and shoot at someone 5 seconds before they see me, they'll kill me with perfect aiming/shooting as theyre running all over the place fast (then add the lag most of them are using). i cant play kz2 like i use to, you know actually aiming, moving left and right with necessary. a good number of people just move 1000 times faster than me in everything, cause of the increase use of modded controllers. i know, a lot of people will say, "just buy a modded controller too then" but then whats the point of having the kz2 controls? also im not a punk i dont need any type of unfair advantage to beat my opponents. thats why i would rather have the kz3 controls and ribbons is easier to combat modded controller punks.

tokugawa4361d ago

typical morganfell everyone against sony post.. shut up !!

i loved kz2, infact i thought it was one of the best on-line shooters i have played. with my cross battle adaptor and xbox 360 wired controller, i used to smash em to bits on it. i loved the weighty controls, graphics and ofcourse the changing objective warzone mode!

i couldnt wait for kz3, i downloaded the demo, played for 10 mins, went straight on shopto and cancelled my pre-order. disappointed is the only word i can say.

disagree away kids, because everyone who doesnt think a sony "exclusive" is a fanboy that just wants to see them fail... smh

stevenhiggster4361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

What you on about? As a true fan of the original KillZone you would know that the second already veered pretty far off what the original did.
I'd still say the original is the best of the series. But I also very much liked 3.

The first game had so much more depth than 2 and 3, a far better story and multiple playable characters too.

On the multiplayer side, yes 3 was a step back from 2, and tbh I'd say graphically too. But on the whole I liked 3.

"Oh c'mon what was so different about KZ3?"

The game was fine, but as a Killzone 2 player, I expected more from the Online Menu/UI Set-up.
KZ2 offered so much more for the Multiplayer when it came to user options.

The story was better, the gameplay though i liked the weight it was still fine with the change. My only beef with the game was that the online was just downgraded, which for me I didn't end up playing as long as I did for KZ2

@Below
there was more to simply how the menu looked
They took out (talking launch here for KZ3)
server list
The whole Clan system of Killzone 2, this was KZ2 clan system: http://community.us.playsta...
KZ3 literally scrapped all of that.

There's a lot of stuff from KZ2 MP menu that was removed from KZ3 that really made a huge system. Let's not get into the squad system either.

Nostalgia4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

The online was downgraded because you didn't like the menu? lol
I only played the KZ3 beta and I was a hardcore KZ2 player but I had no trouble with anything, it did feel like more of the same just with a slight graphical improvement but to hear some people say it was a downgrade or a fail is just stupid.
KZ3 like KZ2 held it's own and did nothing wrong. People just need to to stop hating on games because they can't afford them lol. I'm not saying that applies to you.

Nitrowolf24362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

I'm not gonna sit here and argue and say that you are not a true KZ fan, because it's an opinion. If you liked the MP of KZ3 I can understand that. I liked it a lot to, but as said there was a whole lot from KZ2 that really made it more unique. KZ3 for me felt liked a stripped down version of KZ2 MP. It's not just me that thought this eeither, I remember the first week people on the forums where complaining about all these MP changes, especially the server list ( I think it's there now though not sure)

Also DLC, even though I got akl of them for free, I felt that really killed the community right away. Divided them up badly TBH.

LackTrue4K4362d ago

that was the best thing i remember about Killzone 2! "THE CLAN" it was the first clan i join, with really helpful players!!! to this day we jumped to Killzone 3 and now Battlefield 3. we still jump back to killzone 3 onces a month. hoping for Killzone 4 to be similar to 2!!!

TekoIie4361d ago

Cutscenes in KZ3 were EPIC!! Screw everyone who says cutscenes ruin games cuz this games SP would not be as good without it!

Jazz41084361d ago

I enjoyed kz2 and I only usually play sp and kz3 the story was horrible and so forgettable. I had to push myself to finish it knowing I spent 60 bucks on launch night for it.

How many time does this have to be discussed?

***"Oh c'mon what was so different about KZ3?
The only thing it changed was the heavy sprinting and made it a bit lighter."***

This is NOT the reason why people are upset about KZ3.

Most KZ2 players will admit that the controls for KZ3 are better. The heaviness while sprinting is essentially the same in both games.

What MOST KZ2 players are upset about is the gunplay and the unbalanced classes. Those are the TWO most important things that we are upset about.

The guns in KZ3 resemble CoD. There is little recoil, little bullet spread, and little bullet deviation. The variables for calculation bullet damage is only 7. It was 24 in KZ2.

Other problems that people have in the lack of custom ranked custom games with server lists and the clan system. These two things is what gave KZ2 it's replay value.

dragonyght4362d ago

That's not all 25 online feature had gone missing in K3 that's why K 2 vets including myself were dissapointed too many chance in the core gameplay.

Weapons feedback(each weapons had different weight and feel require different way to handle them)
on da fly squad system
spawn grenades
the weekly honors system
better clan/ladder system
battle stat/replay
etc....

Outside_ofthe_Box4362d ago

I know there's more. I'm just tired of listing them. And I'm pretty sure it's more than 25.

kikizoo4361d ago

KZ3 was more "cod players/noobs friendly" than kz2, this is why kz2 veterans did'nt like it more...

but everybody has to remember than kZ3 solo part, was way better than any fps outside the same year, no competition !

lastdual4361d ago

@kikizoo

"but everybody has to remember than kZ3 solo part, was way better than any fps outside the same year, no competition!"

No. Resistance 3 was also released last year, and its campaign was easily better than KZ3. Crysis 2 also had a more meaty campaign with better pacing. There was definitely competition.

@Nostalgia,

Spectating

Spawn on Squad Leader

Battle-Replay

A Better balanced Marksman Class

Badge Swapping

Ranked server list

When shooting your gun, the dynamic lights cast a shadow

Valor System which was actually good.

Medic Indicators

Longer Re-spawn Time

Spawn Grenades

Assault Class

Custom Servers list

The ability to escape a Spawn Camp

A majority of players that play the objectives

Gritty Realistic Graphics

Better Collision Detection

Better Maps

The ability to play any Game Mode on any Map

Boosters

Better Stat Tracking

Higher Sales

Better campagin

I can list more things that Killzone 2 had that Killzone 3 did not have.

InTheLab4362d ago

Almost like it's a completely different game, huh?

I disagree with some of that stuff, like how "higher sales" or "A majority of players that play the objectives " are both inappropriate for a list of differences. Your list would long enough without filler.

The broken Marksmen class did piss me off, as well as minor issues like not knowing where the medics are. I still think the core of Killzone remained the same and some fans won't ever be satisfied with sequels.

MerkinMax4362d ago

When your team was engaged with another in an intense firefight on a night map like Hlghan Industries, the graphics were unreal. The lighting, particles sound and everything was just so intense and immersive. KZ3 just drifted away from that IMO. Why did they feel they need to remove the weightyness of the guns, the heavy movement and other things that made Killzone 2 unique? They obviously weren't afraid to do something different with Killzone 2, then they flipped the switch with KZ3. Just baffles me.

--Onilink--4362d ago

your comment makes no sense, of course if they switched places it would be the opposite, because it means we would have gotten an upgrade in KZ3 instead of a downgrade

sinncross4362d ago

The problem with Killzone 3 is that the story became more ... light hearted.

KZ2 absolutely destroys 3 in terms of atmospheric context... the story feels darker whereas in KZ3 it just feels like a typical sci fi story.

They really need to go back to the KZ2 route and on top of that try and explore more of Helghan life... like the children, and women... add decisions that dont make the ISA look like solid good guys... have Sez and Rico question the war and stuff.

SilentNegotiator4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

Everyone complained that KZ3 didn't have the "heavy" feeling that 2 did, but all that changed was that the latency was much better. Besides, you could just turn down the aim speed if all you wanted was less responsive controls. >_>

Other than 3 missing some features and having a different atmosphere, it had superior gunplay.

KwietStorm_BLM4362d ago

I'm always surprised at how many people just completely forgot or choose not to acknowledge how much content was removed from Killzone 3. Its like a bare canvas compared to KZ2. Server browser, weekly honor ranks, badge system, custom secondary badge, spawn grenades, spawn on squad leader, much better map layout, motion blur, higher player count, gun recoil, etc. Its ALL gone. Its like they started over from scratch and forgot to add it all back in. It even took them 2 months before they made the medic useful again. How did they just forget to show how far away the medics are? Killzone 3 was such a dead experience compared to 2.

starman4361d ago

I blame all those great missing features from KZ2 on the forced move and 3d support, when it was also being rushed to the market.

showtimefolks4362d ago

look GG have to stop listening to everyone and just learn from what they have done right and wrong with KZ2-3. Its hard to please those who said KZ2 was better and hard for those who said KZ3 was better.

keep the controls without lag and try to give us the best MP. also single player should be more focused and less about COD clone

april-may 2013 release date by than ps3 install base could be over 70 plus million so this game has to hit the home run or this is the end for killzone even those its my fav online shooter

ATi_Elite4361d ago

I just want Killzone game designed for the PC!!

Guerrilla Games are excellent Devs and I want to see what they can do with unlimited POWER!!

Looking forward to KZ4 (and playing it next door on my neighbors PS3)

MastaMold4361d ago

@Nostalgia, i agree feel the same way both games are great

Sent from my PS Vita

ritsuka6664361d ago

I tried to love Killzone 3 but can only play for an hour or so before I get very frustrated and angry. The game is NOT Killzone game.

Killzone 3 is biggest fail game ever compared Killzone 2, so i want Killzone 4 like Killzone 2.

humbleopinion4361d ago

I think that the general notion was that Killzone 3 while being more polished (better AI, better controller input), it also lacked some of the Killzone 2 unique personality that people grew into.
Even with the scifi theme it was harder to distinguish it from the rest of the modern FPS iron-sight counterparts.

And while Killzone 2 was considered a graphics powerhouse at the time, the third game didn't boast a significant jump so it wasn't judged as a game pushing the tech like the second game was.

Bleucrunch4361d ago

I loved Killzone 3...in my opinion it fixed all the little things that were an issue for me in two. I love the screen shaking as you run just as real as a shooter gets.

dale_denton4361d ago

what was wrong with killzone 3? i enjoyed it as much as 2... crazy people.

Jaces4361d ago

Make the game LONGER! I couldn't believe I beat it under 6 hours on Elite, pathetic. That was my main gripe, everything else was a blast.

zeddy4361d ago

did anyone here actually play kz3? the game didnt have an ending! that was totally unacceptable. kz2 was a great game, it was "fully finished" and the graphics were a lot more consistant. kz3's graphics were average, you can tell that with bullshit 3d, graphics took a hit. multiplayer was great in kz2 even with all its problems it was serious fun, honestly the closest and fps has gotten to cod. kz3 multiplayer was just the bog standard multiplayer for most games.

cyborg69714361d ago

If kz2 was 3 and the such we would think of it as an improvement. The fact of the matter is that kz2 pisses all over 3. The online gaming director left, they took out all most thirty features and the unbalanced gunplay plus craptastic maps made for a worse game.

+ Show (15) more repliesLast reply 4361d ago
smashcrashbash4362d ago

@ Nostalgia. I agree. people are such drama queens. The way people go on about KZ3 as if it was the worst game in the world. They change up the controls a bit and suddenly KZ4 has to 'make up' for KZ3 as if it was some below average shooter. If you look at the scores for KZ3 you will realize that it has don't better then a lot of games people constantly defend.

Ravenor4362d ago

Well duh, review scores mean everything when discussing a "Competitive" FPS' online gameplay. /s

LOL_WUT4362d ago

I remember when Killzone 2 came out a few people were pissed off because of the controls, saying it felt too heavy and clunky. Fast forward to KZ3 release people complained about the same thing, only this time they complained about how it was catering to the CoD crowd.

I enjoyed both games heck i still play KZ3 for the Co-Op. My only complaint was the story for KZ3 i wish it was more like KZ2 campaign, with the whole gestapo and ss looking helghast.

Perjoss4361d ago

"a few people"

If it was just a few people they would not have released a patch to fix the controls.

Hicken4362d ago

I agree that it's going too far to say KZ4 has to make up for anything, but as a massive fan of KZ3, I felt KZ3 was disappointing.

Killzone 2 had a unique feel and atmosphere to it. Everything had weight, and I loved it It wasn't swinging around a piece of balsa wood; my character reacted like he was moving an actual gun around. Spawn grenades made things amazingly tactical, all by themselves: there was nothing I loved more than sprinting to a prime location to drop off a grenade so my team could get into the action faster(they ruined that with subsequent patches, though).

Fast forward to KZ3, and the classes are no longer balanced, spawn grenades don't exist at all, and weight and skill with a rifle is nonexistent as everyone's a marksman. KZ2 is still my favorite FPS and online experience this generation, and while KZ3 brought some good things into the the formula, it took too many good things out.

S25804362d ago

I agree with the article in that I wanted to learn more about the Helghast and the ordinary people, and how they were effected by the war, i thought that would have made for an enjoyable story.

LarVanian4362d ago

I just wish they would make the story longer. The campaign in Killzone: Liberation was surprisingly long. I just wish it was the same for the console games.

iamnsuperman4362d ago

I personally saw not much wrong with Killzone (in the single player department) but the ending felt a bit abrupt and rushed. Like almost there was more but they ran out time. It will be interesting how they progress considering the ending of KZ3. I generally thought the story was better than KZ2 because it had more of an emotional aspect to it (being stranded and all)

Killzone wasn’t a Halo killer, but a PS5 remake could come close

The first Killzone game never met lofty expectations of dethroning Xbox’s Halo, but if any game needs a PS5 remake, this is the one.

Vits91d ago

I like Halo, but I don't think there is any need for a 'Halo Killer' at this point. If anything, the franchise is slowly undermining itself by making some of the dumbest mistakes possible. Infinite has finally reached a good point in terms of multiplayer, but it took an extra 2 years to get there. Meanwhile, the single-player experience is fine but rather mediocre when compared to the franchise peak.

That said, I would like to see the Killzone franchise back, if anything, to offer more variety to the PS5 exclusive catalog.

_SilverHawk_91d ago

sony should remaster all killzone games and bring back killzone multiplayer that is very similar to the style of killzone 2 multiplayer.

Cacabunga90d ago

Halo killed itself after Halo Reach.
Killzone went a little down in quality with SF on PS4 and I wish they kept them coming..

InUrFoxHole90d ago

??? Halo is doing great right now. I wouldn't mind seeing a kz2 mp rebirth

Cacabunga90d ago

Spawn grenade tactician class my favorite..

darthv7291d ago

I'd love a killzone trilogy, fully remastered on a single disc like they did with Uncharted. Maybe they could make it the full killzone saga including PSP and Vita games converted to console.

REDGUM91d ago

Yes please. Put me down for a copy, price irrelevant too. Loved allow those games in the franchise :)

Chocoburger91d ago

I've never liked the idea of a 'franchise killer', why can't both thrive, without one killing off the other? Its such a childish mentality.

That being said, if there ever was a true 'Halo killer', then it would have to be 343 Studios, and the Xbox division. They're doing a fine job killing off their own IP, apparently.

Profchaos91d ago

Cause console wars mostly drove the halo v killzone thing

Eonjay90d ago

And media co.panies like IGN drove the console wars for clicks.

Profchaos90d ago

@eonjay
Yeah and I still cringe super hard when IGN runs their next gen console watch segment 3 years into the consoles lifecycle we are approaching midgen likely by December and they are out there milking clicks like it's mid 2020 and were starved for information

ModsDoBetter91d ago

Halo doesn't need to be killed, they've done that themselves. It's a shell of its former self.

Zeref90d ago

And yet Halo is still here. Where is Killzone? Resistance? Haze? All the supposed "Halo Killers" are dead franchises 😂

DarXyde90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

"Dead" really isn't the right word for any of these franchises (except Haze). You're also calling these games dead for different reasons. oIMyersIo is saying a Halo is dead because it is not what it used to be and is saying it has gotten much worse. You are saying those franchises faded into obscurity and no one cares. I also find it funny that your first reaction is to name PlayStation franchises because you perceived their comment as a slight against Xbox. I hope you're at the very least part of their ambassador program...

Anyone that sees Killzone as dead is pretty myopic. A decade since their last Killzone, but they themselves have developed two full games since Shadow Fall. That's not many in context at all.

Resistance is a bit less clear. Insomniac is pretty tied up at the moment. Including all of their games on all platforms and ignoring Spider-Man Remastered, we're looking at 23 games since Resistance 3. That's alarmingly prolific and still no R4. My guess? In the modern era, a new Resistance is probably going to have to be a live service and Insomniac is not that studio.

I don't think it's dead though. Not at all.

Gaming4Life198190d ago

Halo infinite is still the best exclusive fps and is doing great but you think it's dead lol. Its also one of the top fps games out here so i dont get where your coming from. Just because you don't play it does not mean it's dead or dying.

I liked killzone 1 & 2 and I think Sony should bring it back along with resistance cause they are in need of more variety in their first party lineup. Sony & MS are sitting on some great franchises that need a revival.

ModsDoBetter90d ago

"Just because you don't play it"

And there your argument was derailed.
Through making such an assumption, you have only served to show that your response is that of a fanboy and any criticism of your beloved franchises is met with speculation in order to downplay any counter argument.

As a matter of fact, as many in team blue on this site will tell you, I often do defend Xbox just as much as I defend PS, so for you to make such a silly comment is laughable.

I have played plenty of Halo: Infinite - on Series S, Series X and PC via Steam. To say the game comes anywhere near the franchise greats such as Combat Evolved and Halo 2 is delusional. The franchise is a shell of its former self and that is a FACT.

It absolutely isn't the best fps exclusive but at this point we're arguing over preferences which is pointlessly subjective.

Where I do agree is that a Resistance comeback would be great for Sony.

DrDoomer91d ago

I'd take Killzone and Resistance over Halo any day.

A Live Service Approach Could Allow a New Killzone Game To Thrive

The Killzone series has been dormant since Shadow Fall, but a live service style for its multiplayer might just be exactly what it needs to succeed.

gamerant.com
TheExecutioner506d ago

It will fail as a live service. An attractive reboot is required. Sony needs a strong first party FPS.

TheEnigma313506d ago (Edited 506d ago )

They don't need a first party fps. Outside of Cod, they aren't as popular as they were last gen and definitely not as popular as they were in the PS3/360 era.

Pedantic91506d ago

COD is not the be-all and end-all of FPS games. Sony will only have it for a couple of years as the deal is more or less set in stone. Sony needs to work on bringing back Resistance/Killzone/MAG. They're sitting on so many IPs and yet they much prefer to chase the cinematic crowd or be an overall nuisance when things are changing. What did they expect when they play the money game against a much more wealthier company to can outpsend you when neccessary.

The "Trying to turn us into another Nintendo" should have been seen as compliment or as another way to thrive.

shinoff2183506d ago

Pedantic91

Playing the money game do you mean the advertising rights to cod

Those Same rights ms bought first back during the 360. Ms has had 20 years to get it together and they haven't. All I have to say is who's next ms couldn't handle it even worse since they had more money then nin and Sony. They closed and or ruined so many studios. What is their issue

Rhezin506d ago

Agreed. That’s all they need now. A new Killzone/Resistance game would be perfect.

Mr_cheese506d ago

I'd love both! Especially miss Resistance. So many memories

1Victor505d ago

I would prefer a hawk game like a sequel/ reboot of Starhawk hell I’ll even take a remastered Warhawk or Starhawk with higher players numbers, 64 would be awesome

Crows90505d ago

I think they could seriously improve the fps genre in ways they dont even know.
Imagine those set peice moments that theyre making in 3rd person translated and designed for 1st person.

I think they could compete at a certain extent with CoD. Ive wanted another killzone and resistance long before the activ bliizard deal came around. Not to compete with CoD but to give great single player fps campaigns...this is sorely lacking right now and I hope Sonys sees it eventually.

Vengeance1138506d ago

Can't do any worse than Halo as a live service so yes please, atleast try it.

kingnick505d ago

Best careful what you wish for.

Overwatch 2 is another bad live service game.

Once a developer and publisher have burnt most of the goodwill of their playerbase an entire franchise can be destroyed.

Vengeance1138505d ago

Overwatch 2 despite the rough launch and bugs is hugely successful and crazy popular.
Not to mention Killzone is already dead so if a live service fails it what? Goes back to doing what it is now, being dead. Thus Killzone has absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Hell no.

Just remake KZ2 keep gameplay the same and it'll thrive, I'm sure of it.

JEECE506d ago

No it won't because if they just released a real multiplayer game and not a live service in 2022/2023 people would be whining two weeks after launch that the game was abandoned and "sent out to die."

People hate the terms "Live Service" and "Games as a Service," but in reality that's the only thing people want to play.

shinoff2183506d ago

Not at all. I currently play no live service games. I did try fallout 76. It became annoying when they wanted money for more storage. I probably played about 15 hours or so.

JEECE506d ago

@shinoff2183

I appreciate that individuals here and there don't, but if you look at how people react to multiplayer games now, it's clear that people want a live service, even if they don't want the publisher to call it that.

Look at Battlefield V. Tha game had maps released here and there for about a year and half, which is actually pretty typical for a Battlefield game (only 4 got map packs later in it's life cycle). Yet the entire narrative around that game now is that the devs abandoned it.

Or look at Red Dead Online. People talk about that game being "dead," and the community even had a funeral. Which you'd think would mean that the servers were down (that's what it used to mean), but it actually just meant the game was just being maintained in a status quo, not as a live service.

Heck, people's complaints about Halo are even more evidence. People used to play Halo multiplayer to have fun. Now people can't see the point in playing the game if there aren't new skins to earn.

SurgicalMenace506d ago

Exactly!! If you don't believe what's being said, I dare you to explore the most successful ongoing games. It seems like people just want everything to stay the same with no progression. I may not play, Destiny, Fortnite, FF14, League, Genshin or the like but I can see the opportunity they add to the industry.

--Onilink--506d ago

Honestly, people dont even understand what live service is at this point. They just hate the term.

What exactly would an FPS in 2022 that is NOT live service be?
No new maps released consistently
No new guns
Maybe a map pack at some point that completely breaks the player base/matchmaking
No constant balance / tuning updates

Thats what a live service FPS is at the end of the day. Anything else like battle passes or microtransactions are the funding methods

@JEECE

Halo Infinite MP was released as a live service game, though. it's starved off contents unlike other live service games thus the backlash is justified imo.

oh hell no!!!!, look at Halo it sure is thriving lol, Killzone only needs a good story, heck you could even leave the graphics visual style of Shadowfall cause up to this day still looks freaking amazing.

Profchaos506d ago

It was my favourite in the franchise to date because it was a departure from the drab and dreary original colour profile the city keeps were still some of the best you'll see on ps4 to this day

kingnick505d ago

343i can't develop their own games in their own right and outsource when possible. I doubt Guerrilla Games would make the same mistakes but I don't see Killzone being a live service game adding much to anything other then Sony's bottom line.

TheEnigma313506d ago

Shadowfall was such a drop off from KZ 2/3. I wish they could remake KZ2; with the weight feel also.

The Shelving Of Killzone Leaves a Hole In PlayStations First Party

With the future of Killzone in question, it leaves a hole that might not be easily filled in PlayStation's first party line up.

Same goes with Resistance another great title that has been shelved.

_SilverHawk_1182d ago

I don't think these games are gone. Also insomniac has been teasing resistance for over a year so I expect to hear about that franchise soon or sometime this year

Vengeance11381182d ago

*Had been shelved, though most likely not anymore with all the Insomniac teasing.

phoenixwing1182d ago

If they make a new Resistance game it better not be a cod clone.

Vengeance11381182d ago

Why would it be a Cod clone? A new Resistance would be a.. Resistance clone with Resistance style gameplay. This is Insomniac, they don't do ripoffs.

solideagle1182d ago

lol Insomniac don't do ripoff and Spiderman is copy/paste of batman even some of the side quests. I have not played it myself but my friend was saying its shameless how much copy/paste insomniac has done from batman games.

Vengeance11381182d ago

Must have missed the sections in Batman Arkham where hes web swinging from area to area or juggling a whole group of enemies in the air at once.

P_Bomb1181d ago (Edited 1181d ago )

“... my friend was saying its shameless how much copy/paste insomniac has done from batman games.”

He wasn’t around for Spider-man on PS2 I take it? Parker was juggling back when Bruce was still struggling with Dark Tomorrow.

The lack of 1st party multiplayer titles is shocking, i was bleak even on PS4 compared to PS3:

Killzone 2,3
Warhawk, Starhawk
Socom Confrontation and Socom 4
Motorstorm 1,2
MAG
Twisted Metal
Resistance 1,2
MGO2
TLOU (multiplayer)
Uncharted 2,3 (multiplayer)

The list goes on and on.
I get that they are great at 1st party single player experiences, but the appeared abandonment of multiplayer enabled titles (or even news of, for that matter) is pretty miserable.

JEECE1182d ago

Unfortunately Sony would make good multiplayer titles, but people on Playstation would largely ignore them in favor of more generic third party stuff, so as much as I miss their output, I can't blame them for focusing on games people actually buy.

Sophisticated_Chap1181d ago (Edited 1181d ago )

This is exactly why I dropped off Playstation after watching the PS4 launch. Almost all of those games were completely non-existent on PS4, with the exception of a very mediocre Killzone game, and a God of War game, Uncharted game and TLOU2 game that came out towards the end of the PS4 generation.

Last gen I switched to Xbox for a different experience since Playstation started charging for online, which leveled the playing field with Xbox Live, and didn't have any of the games I liked (most of which are in your list). For all of Xbox's faults, I was able to experience the 360 generation games through backwards compatibility, plus I was able to play the newer gears games and Halo games, which were a lot of fun. Titanfall was pretty awesome in the early Xbox One days also.

SmokinAces1182d ago

No it doesn't leave a hole it makes room for something else. Cool doom and gloom article though.

RyanShutup1182d ago

Resistance and KZ need a revival.

Silly gameAr1182d ago

They can't work on new games and try new things? I doubt Killzone is gone forever, but I'd rather they work on new potential franchises, and when they do go back to Killzone, they'll have fresh, new ideas.
