JapanTimes: Yoichi Wada hopes Japanese gamers will play COD, Japan's gamers starting to shoot 'em up

It's a long running stereotype: Japanese gamers like role-playing games (RPGs), and Western gamers prefer first-person shooters (FPS). That doesn't mean hardcore FPS players don't exist in Japan. They do.

FPS games differ greatly from RPG games. In an FPS, action is gun-based and unfolds from a first-person point-of-view. The setting is often military, though it can also be sci-fi. In role-playing games, the focus is on "leveling-up" characters and action is often based around intricate battle systems. The setting is usually fantasy or sci-fi. FPS games have a lot in common with, say, a round of paintball, while RPGs are derived from tabletop board games.

Yoichi Wada has done too much damage to the FF series. Stop trying to westernise FF.

FF1-10 felt like FF games, but after he became the CEO of Square Enix on April 1 2003 (April fools day) the series did not feel EPIC anymore, story is not there. look what his direction & philosophy did to post FF10 games

I'm hoping that Japanese gamers remain the same or don't get into the habbit of preferring shooters like cod over jrpgs and other games. My reasoning is because I'd like certain markets to not flood the gaming industry with more shooters and ignore other genres. We have a lot of shooters in the gaming industry already

Square Enix has turned to $hit. The CEO is an ass hat and decided that he could play with the long time fanbase in exchange for cash. We all see how well that worked out.

I will never purchase another Square Enix title while Wada is the CEO.

Fuck him.

Square Enix...has been is DEAD.....since merger and after FFX.(Last great games in the series)

Bring back Square-soft and Hironobu Sakaguchi..

NYC_Gamer4368d ago

Hmmm... dude said that because SE publishes Call of Duty in Japan...

Capt-FuzzyPants4368d ago
