"Microsoft revealed a subscription Xbox 360 yesterday, a move that has enormous implications for the HD console business. Monthly payments for hardware and services could change everything, says Patrick Garratt."
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
Sony is like the only ones outta the 3 that has atuff like like this pop up changing thing in ways.
Genuine Enabling Technology was seeking damages, claiming the tech allowing PlayStation consoles and controllers to communicate infringes its rights.
Sounds like patent trolling they tried the same thing against Nintendo with the same pattern.
Motion and control input traversing over higher and lower frequencies seperate from each other allowing the controller to do both
So to recoup the money Genuine is going to take on Nintendo or Microsoft next. I hate patent lawyers they are some of the worst bottom feeders out there.
Just think back when the Playstation 3 came out and surprised many with its whopping $600 price tag. Imagine if Sony had the foresight to think of something like this and if Playstation Plus was available then too. Consumers could have had an OPTION (the reason I use caps if to show everyone how this is an option and need to react in the same manner) to offset the high price.
It never ceases to amaze me just how emotionally involved some people get on game forums about things, especially when they are options.
I'd rather just buy it and be done with it.
Gaming's miracle?
Early adopters would end up spending more money over the life of the console than ever before. And what is with all the comparisons between smart phones and gaming consoles? They have nothing in common with one another and are entirely different demographics.
And again with the whole "a lot of us gamers" want to download everything through digital distribution. Uh no, I don't know many gamers that want to throw their money out the window and not have any resale value or all the hassles that come with DD. As I'm sure most net providers wont be too keen on it either. Not to mention the fact that broadband does not exist every where. There are still tons of areas throughout the world and in every country that don't have access to high speed internet.
Sorry but this whole article, although well written, comes off as
Nothing is ever free. Don't believe ondores lies
Id rather foot the upfront cost of the console/service then be raped for more money for the same service. besides paying to access my own online that im already paying my cable provider for is stupid as hell.
