Clayman4361d ago

It doesn't really matter what the game looks like. BG&E is all about story for me.

nveenio4361d ago

Then this had better have an awesome story, because those graphics suck. I almost think some dude just built this in his pirated copy of 3DS Max so that he could get some people talking about his "art".

SilentNegotiator4361d ago

Unless this is a N3DS screenshot, color me unimpressed.

jony_dols4361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

BG&E has been in development for years, this could just be a screenshot of an early build from a few years ago.

I'm sure Ubisoft Montreal will be collaborating with some of Ubi's other teams (i.e. AC, Splinter Cell & GRAW's studios) to make it graphically shine.

As already mentioned by Clayman, BG&E is all about the story, but nice graphics never hurt & Ubisoft know that if they want to boost sales.

Flavor4361d ago

Looks very dated. And bad. Probably fake.

RememberThe3574361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

We have no idea how far long development is and judging from earlier statements("We are in an active creation stage and at this moment" - Michel Ancel) it's not very far along. Even if this is new it's leaked and in no way a hint at what graphical standard they're trying to set with this game. I'm sure that if you looked at early renders of Uncharted they'd look like crap too. To be honest it just looks unpolished which is to be expected from a game in the middle of development. A lot of developers use the last month to polish the graphics (i.e. DICE games look horrendous until they're out of beta).

Got Dammit!!! Put some Anti-Aliasing on that screen shot!

That red arrow next to the Fresh Fish sign on the right looks like a dam set of steps. lol

yeh it looks like the typical Ubisoft artwork so I'll hold out for some 1080p game play video before passing JUDGEMENT! BG&E2 was supposed to be out a year and a half ago so they better make it fantastic.

Now i have something to look forward to at E3!

Gaming1014361d ago

lol wow, who gets this angry over anti-aliasing, nerd spasm much?
It's obviously an early work in progress that doesn't have all the touch ups that it would have on release, no game with a rocky development cycle like this one (due to lack of funding from a publisher who doesn't believe in the series due to almost non-existent sales of the first game) is going to have flashy screen shots from the get go

joab7774361d ago

Its a possible screenshot for a game we dont even know will be releasing. It amazes me that the first reaction is that the graphics suck on a single arbitrary pic that we know nothing about. Maybe the idea that the game may be coming out should be slightly more important. And it is a story driven game. I am guilty of it too, but we put such a premium on graphics that we get gorgeous games that are very cookie cutter. Or we trash amazing games because they dont look like battlefield 3 on high pc settings. Dont get me wrong, there is bar for contemporary looks, but i hate to think that companies like crytek first and foremost must make the best looking game, while story is average at best.

snipes1014361d ago

I really hope, provided that the game comes out, that they stick with a similar art style to the first game rather than going with a hyper realistic look. The over-saturated colors that the first game had were part of what made me love it.

jag_stilvecchio4361d ago

"BG&E is all about story..."

Really? I mean sure there is a story in BG&E but it's nothing impressive or unprecedented. This is one of those games that has a following that I simply don't understand. No one took notice of the game when it launched then a few gaming rags picked up on it as an "undiscovered gem" and now it's fashionable to cite this "amazing game and storyline" (not your words but similar to others I've seen posted about BG&E). Honestly, having played the game on my original Xbox I never saw what was so great.

Spenok4361d ago

Well... the way you put that is a bit miss worded. Maybe you meant to say the graphics don't matter? Because if that was the case I agree. However when it comes to the way the game "looks" it has a VERY significant important factor.

From the art style to the color pallet to the atmosphere and all the way down to the way everything comes together. If a game has a GREAT story, like BG&E did, but the game looked like absolute crap (and that of course, is open to interpretation), most people wouldn't give it the light of day.

kevnb4361d ago

everyone is always writing the same sort of titles for everything. Looking stunning has lost all meaning.

Merrill4361d ago

I agree completely.

Also everything is 'Leaked'

LightofDarkness4361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

Yep, and very little of it actually is. If something is leaked that means that it has been unintentionally disseminated or released, i.e. the company does not officially want the information or media to be available.

Typical media hyperbole tactics, really. If you say "BG&E 2 Screenshot Released" you'll get a few clicks. But saying "BG&E 2 Screenshot LEAKED" will probably net you quite a few more, because it appeals to the inner gnostic in people. People see LEAK and think "OMG SECRETS, MUST PURSUE HIDDEN KNOWLEDGE", when in reality it's probably nothing of the sort, and the image has been released to build hype.

european_cannon4361d ago

Don't forget to add stunning to the title for a "leaked stunning" combo. Its funny how "looks stunning" isn't actually in the title on the website, just on N4G.

MissAubrey4361d ago

how can you tell what it looks like with that small shot?

Conzul4361d ago

click on the "small shot", dummy.

SilentNegotiator4361d ago

Right click and view image, too. It's a 720p shot.

FACTUAL evidence4361d ago

He's a halo fan Conzul, give him a break...those people run slow.

MissAubrey4361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

@ FACTUAL evidence, Conzul
When this story was posted you couldnt view the SCREENSHOT that LARGE(look @ Gamer3000 image thats EXACTLY how large the image was when you clicked on it!). no need for unnecessary name calling and attacks.

Conzul4359d ago

If you really think that was an *attack*, well, you're LOST.

Ninjamonkey824361d ago

Can't tell a thing from that screenshot waste of time clicking the link people.

NeXXXuS4361d ago

you have to click on the smaller one. it's a bigger photo.

Gamer30004361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

lol this look stunning ???

Twilightx74361d ago

Are you people seriously incapable of clicking on an image to enlarge it? Here, I'll do it for you.

http://www.gamepur.com/file...

Hellsvacancy4361d ago

"you people" lol, like there a breed of there own

attilayavuzer4361d ago

Don't...blowing it up just makes it look worse...

BISHOP-BRASIL4361d ago

He's not blowing it up, that's the original size... That said, the first time I tried clicking the image, it opened exactly the size Gamer3000 provided.

Probably something wrong with either the site or my end, anyway, when I reloaded the link, it opened in the actual 720p size.

On topic, it may not be impressive, but also not bad in my book.

Armyless4361d ago

I'm losing what little faith I had left in the N4G gaming community.

Five Big Games Still Lingering Somewhere in Development Hell

This year promises to be a big year for gaming, and it will definitely be one of the greatest if any of these big MIA projects finally made it into gamers' hands.

Inverno94d ago

Pretty sure Silk Song and Dragon Age are going smoothly. The other 2 can be assumed to be quietly cancelled knowing their publishers and Metroid will most likely be shown off this year.

Michiel198993d ago

Dragon Age going smoothly??? Directors leaving, people leaving in general, terrible working conditions....not sure how you define smoothly.

Chocoburger93d ago

I remember in 2017 when Nintendo showed off the Metroid Prime 4 logo, and some Nintendo defenders claimed "Just because they only showed a logo, doesn't mean that's all they've worked on for the game."

As history has proven, they were wrong. Nintendo showed off a logo back in 2017 because that's literally all they had.

-Foxtrot93d ago

I think Beyond Good and Evil 2 can stay there unless they are going to just rename it to a new IP

DOMination-93d ago

Pretty sure BG&E2 is dead at this point - along with the other game Ancel was working on before he left - I think it was called WILD. Anyone remember that from a PS conference years ago?

Dreadwolf isn't in development hell anymore and is finally getting its reveal in the summer - since 2016 the game has been scrapped and restarted three times but its been going pretty well since the last reboot when EA finally allowed BioWare to just get on with making a single player game.

I'm not sure Perfect Dark is in development hell either - like it could be but we haven't really heard much to suggest either way - imo they just showed the trailer off when the game was still in pre-production. Xbox were desperate for anything and this is all they had at the time. And the reason we haven't heard anything since is just because it's in normal development and games take 5 years to make. The help from a support studio was typically overblown on N4G because nearly every game has this.

I just need...Deep Down.
Please, it's been years!

Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Now the Most Delayed AAA Game Ever

Ubisoft's action-adventure even beats Duke Nukem Forever which previously was the title with the longest wait between a game being first announced and it actually being released.

x_xavier_x562d ago

I understand that the original game is held in high esteem by some passionate fans. I tried to get into it on several occasions and I just lost interest after a few hours of gameplay.

Abracadabra562d ago

Beyond Good & Evil was a great game at the time... but, like most older games, it didn't age well. Gameplay and graphics are subpar by today's standards.

Wouldn't mind if they made a Remake with updated gameplay and graphics. Game turns 20 next year...

x_xavier_x562d ago (Edited 562d ago )

I feel the same way about the original Psychonauts. I gave it a shot every few years, and it just wasn't for me.

MadLad562d ago

I find it still very playable by today's standards, honestly.

But opinions are opinions.
I just feel it actually aged well.

Godmars290561d ago

Its was great middleware that someone thought would make for an even greater AAAA title.

For some reason...

0hMyGandhi561d ago

Beyond Good and Evil aged just fine, as did the original Psychonauts. Visually, sure, a bit rough (though both have a wonderfully refreshing art style that more than makes up for actual "visual fidelity".)

I'd say that you really need to give both of these games another shot. Psychonauts is one of the most original and utterly creative games I've ever played, and it's also one of the funniest as well. Psychonauts 2 was even better, and basically, a (well made) Pixar movie brought to life.

In all honesty, don't just play games and try to like them if you don't actually like them. It's perfectly fine to have your own tastes! we tend to use a tremendous amount of hyperbole when referring to games that are slightly older, and we speak only from memory, which *can* be deceiving.

I will say that I replayed the first Psychonauts again in the last few months, and still adore it. But like I said, this is all subjective.

561d ago
poppatron561d ago

I gave up on the og psychonauts after about 5 or so hours because like many many people those weird sluggish controls just got the better of me while trying to get through some of the more testing platforming and swinging around parts.

BgaE I got way further in enjoyed, I think I saved it off in the end because something I was more interested in came out. The sequel looks like a completely different type of game in genre and scope, to the point it looked pretty ground breaking I thought. I’m still super low key excited for it, although I wouldn’t be surprised if next time it reared it’s head it looked very very different.

EazyC561d ago

It's an age thing. I'm always reminded of this when I whip out the old PS2, the vast majority of 3D games from the '00s just haven't aged well.

Good-Smurf561d ago

I have same feeling over Code Veronica X fans loved it to bits while I'm came out of it confused and disappointed.
I never played Beyond Good & Evil and I might get give it a try soon.

deleted562d ago

Cancel it or change the name for all I care. This isn't the Beyond Good & Evil I fell in love with.

Si-Fly562d ago

Weird take. Whilst we didn’t get proper gameplay reveals it looked very much how I would want BG&E to look now.

-Foxtrot562d ago (Edited 562d ago )

So you wanted an ambitious open world Beyond Good and Evil sequel that gameplay differs from the original and has no clear vision so far if it's a prequel (which no one wanted) or a sequel (with an evil Jade where she's not the main character, which no one wanted)

All people wanted was a full on sequel that's a platformer and continues Jades story.

-Foxtrot562d ago

Exactly

It's not Beyond Good and Evil

They had an idea for an ambitious new IP and thought it would sell better or had more of a safety net if they slapped on a franchise name.

isarai562d ago

Seriously, has absolutely nothing to do with the original other that a loose cameo.

CrimsonWing69562d ago (Edited 562d ago )

How hard is it to make a game like the original? Nobody wanted anything different and these idiots just insist on trying to make something completely unrelated AND they don’t even know what to make! So, yea, here we go with the delays. Ubisoft can be such an obnoxious publisher/developer.

InklingGirl562d ago

Just leave it alone, the original is a classic lets not ruin it.

Exvalos562d ago

I'm more worried about how fast that time went i still remember it being announced there is no way that was that many years ago NO WAY!

Beyond Good And Evil 2 Starts External Playtesting

Although Beyond Good and Evil 2 has had its problems, it has officially been confirmed by Ubisoft that it is still in active development.

Terry_B647d ago

It never looked like a Beyond Good and Evil game even.

TheExecutioner646d ago

Do you know that first game came out 2003 by the time this game released i would be probably 40.
Now majority of gamers who played the first one are not going even bother playing now.

This game is a refreshing and wants to be more appealing to all gamers.

Concertoine646d ago

I just don’t see a reason why it cant be a new IP in that case.

Terry_B646d ago

..and? do you think it looks like a game that appears to all gamers? Unlike the first part it gets mostly negative feedback, even from people that never played the first game.

Michiel1989646d ago

@Terry they also didnt play the 2nd.....

maelstromb645d ago

If the devs were smart, they'd launch a remake of the original a few months before the sequel to get the fans who have loved the original amped again and to also introduce it to a new generation to get them excited for what's to come. Seems like a win-win to me.

isarai646d ago

Looks like an awesome game, but it has nothing too do with BGE1, or anything to do with what fans wanted.

Yi-Long646d ago

If it would have been a SP action-adventure game like the first one, I would have been excited.
