Why The Sun's epic fail Max Payne 3.5 score is bad for business

The Sun's Max Payne 3 review score was apparently a "mistake" no harm done then, or is there?

Reviews are nothing but someones opinion anyway...i have disliked plenty of high rated games before and enjoyed low scored ones...

bunt-custardly4368d ago

The Sun, as a supposed professional publication should know better. Although mistakes do happen, and yet once the print has been distributed there isn't any going back unless they print something in another edition.

MrDead4367d ago (Edited 4367d ago )

The Sun hasn't reviewed the game yet

This is from the Sun website

"Clarification: In the paper this morning, you will've noticed that we gave Max Payne a score of '3.5' - or 70% as it'd be online. We'd like to clarify that this was a mistake, and that we have NOT reviewed nor marked the game yet, and won't do so until May 18th, its release."

Also the Sun is not a professional publication. It be News Corp slime oozed from the teat of the evil Murdoch

Winter47th4367d ago

Still, reviews might be some individual's opinion, but that's not what the masses understand. Review scores can hurt a game even if minimally, that's just a simple fact. they're not just some guy's opinion, but they're influential and effective.

Eamon4367d ago (Edited 4367d ago )

The Sun... a professional publication?

ROFLMAO.

The Sun is probably the shittiest newspaper in the UK and it's a subsidiary of Murdoch's News Corp.

It's known to never check their sources and have outrageous headlines and journalists with the literacy skills of a GCSE student.

To take anything The Sun reports with a grain of salt is giving them more credit than they deserve. The newspaper is worth less than toilet paper.

MrDead4367d ago (Edited 4367d ago )

@Eamon

It’s funny how the Sun can ignore the most things said in the Leveson inquiry one of the biggest stories in the country because the Murdoch's are being shown as either incompetent or liars

abc12334367d ago

@Eamon: I utterly disagree with you...saying that they have the literacy skills of a GCSE student is severely overestimating them.

jony_dols4367d ago (Edited 4367d ago )

The Sun & the words 'professional publication' does not compute.

SnakeCQC4367d ago

lol the sun is far from professionally about anything its a generic sensational tabloid

Eamon4367d ago

@ MrDead. lol yeah, if anything major is revealed in the Leveson inquiry, it's probably get a nice small space in the corner of a small font column somewhere in the pages of the Sun where its readers run out of steam and lose interest - probably page 6 or something.

@ abc1233, ROFLMAO. Bubbles for the humour. I apologise for overstating their intelligence.

Kopite_20204367d ago

A professional publication!!!! That's a fuckin laugh

dredgewalker4367d ago

I doubt it would affect the sales of the game. Do people who love to play games still read the newspaper? It's the digital age and I get my news on the internet. And if you're a gamer you'd go online or buy a gaming mag for your game reviews.

This is totally off topic.. Sorry guys I just wanted to say R.I.P. to Adam "MCA" Yauch. You will be missed!!

On topic.. This supposed "mistake" or even if it is going to be their actual review score means absolutely nothing to me. There are only a few publications that I really trust, and I usually look at multiple reviews of a game I'm not truly sold on yet.

smoothdude4367d ago

Adam was part of the beastie boys.

Gamer19824367d ago

@NYC_Gamer well said! I love dynasty warriors games but a lot of people really dislike them. They always get scores like 6-7/10 and sell under 1 million with each game but it doesn't stop me buying each one with every release. There is also the flip side all reviewers loved GTA IV and I thought it was the biggest pile of crap I have ever played yet I LOVE saints row 2 and 3. Its all about opinions and what we love. The key to sales is hitting the opinions of the most people.

mcstorm4367d ago

Nyc_gamer i have to agree with you here. I buy games because i want them not because they score 10 out of 10.

Im still unsure on this game though. I really enjoyed the 1st 2 but im not a fan of any of the rock* games. Ive never liked gta could not get into rdr or la noire and i think this looks like it is going down the same lines. I hope its not but i think ill give the demo ago before buying the game.

kevnb4368d ago

who cares? Reviews dont have nearly as much wait as people around here seem to think they do.

Baka-akaB4368d ago (Edited 4368d ago )

Indeed , if review were that important these days , crap like Enslaved would be selling millions , kinect star wars would fail , and the Witcher would start at 800k on 360 .

Most people from the general public , only check if a sequel is considered better or inferior to the previous game .

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34367d ago

Enslaved...crap? I now look at you as a light bulb that doesn't work, lmao.

Baka-akaB4367d ago

Well if you knew me , you'd be thinking that eons ago . So yeah again i find Enslaved mediocre , like actually quite a few people around .

dredgewalker4367d ago

Enslaved was boring for me. It wasn't really crap but I simply did not enjoy it. So I agree with Baka that it was mediocre at best.

cjflora4367d ago

Enslaved was mediocre. It wasn't bad, which apparently everyone assumes when you don't say something is great. It's not a bad game, just not that good of a game. Good story and interesting setting but the graphics and gameplay were lacking.

Cajun Chicken4368d ago

But, what happens if it actually isn't any good? After all the nearest game this gen to MP3 has been Stranglehold and that got slated despite being fantastic.

kevnb4367d ago

Stranglehold was pretty bad actually.

Hellsvacancy4367d ago

If you go to The Sun newspaper for serious reviews (or anything for that matter) you should shoot yourself!

abc12334367d ago

Well there is a certain page number which is interesting ;)

ritsuka6664367d ago (Edited 4367d ago )

I don't know but probably this game will disappoint a lot of people.. i bet just my 2 cents.

KwietStorm_BLM4367d ago

Every game seems to disappoint people these days.

mttrackmaster384367d ago

Yep. Pleasing gamers nowadays is a monumental task. Someone will always find something to complain about.

admiralvic4367d ago

While this is true, they're not always outlandish or stupid problems. Thus it could lead to bigger/better games down the road. That is at least the ideal situation.

I got 80% trophy completion on Ragnarok but left a few of the battles. Will come back to it one day.

Miraak82 292d ago

Dragon Quest 11 is my top pick

RpgSama292d ago

Dragon Quest XI was such an AMAZING game, I had a blast from the very beginning all the way to the very end, it actually got better the more you played, full of surprises as well.

Another game that I enjoyed from the very beginning all the way to the end of the 100% completion was Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Really, really, really fun game with a great heartfelt story.

badz149292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

Where is Horizon Zero Dawn?? where is Ghost of Tsushima?? I just got my Platinum on HZD and is now trying to finish the Frozen Wild expansion. so much care and love went into that game and it really shows. I especially adore the lore and have sunk many hours listening to the logs and reading journals. the back story is great and the gameplay is awesome. can't wait to replay on the hardest difficulty on NG+. next in my list would be to finish GoTsushima

Tacoboto292d ago

Ghost was fantastic especially after Iki Island and the PS5 upgrade. 100%'d that, Horizon Forbidden West (not ZD), GoW (not yet Ragnarok), Spider-Man, and R&C: Rift Apart.

Each one absolutely worth it.

Aloymetal292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

100% I would like to add to you list RDR2, amazing as well and the perks from getting the Legend Of The East outfit is awesome.
Sekiro as well, have to play twice to get it but it's worth it!

Demetrius292d ago

I agree I'm on my 2nd playthroughs of both horizon forbidden West(zero dawn I played also) ghost of Tsushima except I'm replaying it on PS5 this time, the iki island expansion is amazing

ClayRules2012292d ago

Yeah, GoT was already an AMAZING game on PS4, but playing it on PS5, along with that expansion, just even better.

Elda292d ago

I just started my copy of GOW:R, enjoying it so far.

DefenderOfDoom2292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

Okay the title of article should be top 10 , 3rd person games to complete 100 percent. Nine 3rd person games and 1 racing game on this list .
